I have been carefully reviewing the excursion choices - and I do not see much to do with my 4yo DS. Right now, we are planning to just walk around Key West and Cozumel. I don't think he will sit still for a coach/tour (though he may enjoy the trolleys in KW).

If anyone has found "fun" things to do with an active 4yo "off ship," please do share! Suggestions do not have to be fancy - simply finding a playground or a family-friendly beach and restaurant would be nice.

TIA...

We enjoyed the Butterflys in Key West. They were beautiful. We took the Bone Island Shuttle each way.

Tia,
You have the Aquarim which is right there at Mallory Square and then there is the Butterfly farm at the far end of Duval Street - I have 10% coupons for the farm if you are interested - if you are looking for a playground - there is one located at the Clarence Higgs beach which is at the end of White Street - a lot of the locals take their children there - its clean and it is right on the beach too - there are swings, slides etc for the children
If I can help any further, just drop me a note.
Always

FlynnStone,

We just went on the 7 day Western Cruise a month ago with our 2 5 year olds. We went on the daytime Western Union schooner excursion in Key West and the kids especially enjoyed it when they shot a canon at the "pirates". Your 4 year old may be bored though, since theres a lot of just sitting and enjoying the scenery. I loved it!

In Cozumel, we went on the Ocean View Explorer tour and the kids really liked seeing all the fish and even a couple scuba divers! You do have to sit still for a while, but the kids had fun trying to find the different kinds of fish pictured on the identification cards.

We also went back to the ship early at each port (except Castaway Cay, of course) and were able to enjoy some time at the pool when it was less crowded or back in the kids clubs which my son loved. I'm sure you will find something that your son will enjoy!

For Key West, the Aquarium and Butterfly Farm sound perfect! (And thanks Shirley for the Playground tip). I'll also give the Ocean View Explorer a try in Cozumel.

Anyone have ideas for Grand Cayman?

We do plan to go back to the ship early each day, but it would be nice to do *something* at each stop.

thanks again!

You might consider Captain Marvins. http://www.captainmarvins.com/

We are cruising in July with a very active 3 yr old. This is what we have planned...

Key West
Trolley - but booked on our own. We plan to walk a bit to (aka wear him out)

Cayman's - 2 hr visit to the sting rays.

Cozumel - Dolphin Discovery in the afternoon and paradise beach in the AM.

One of the families traveling with us is taking their 3.5 yr old on the semi-sub tour in Caymans.

If you want to do it on your own.. the turtle farm is neat. The holiday Inn on 7 mile will rent you beach chairs.

Good luck
