Western Europe? What do you think?

Fwiw, I've worked for 2 cruise lines. They call any cruise that starts and ends in a different port a repositioning (even if it's a port in the same country), whether they advertise/sell it as that or not...
Good info. Thanks!

it will be a 14 month old, a 3 (almost 4 year old) and a 5 year old....
the baby won't remember a thing of course....i'm guessing the 3 and 5 year olds will..
but it doesn't really matter...it's just to have fun together. 'doing disney' and having fun on the ship..
and then at DLP after the cruise...

the kids will have an interesting time in barcelona before the cruise since they're trilingual - one of the languages being spanish (though not exactly the form spoken in barcelona, but it's more similar than different)....

i'm looking forward to being on the Magic - it's been a really long time since i was on one of the 'classic' ships so it will be interesting to see the difference....

The classic ships are my favorite! It probably helps that our first cruise was on the Magic. I do like the Fantasy more than I thought I would. I think they did a good job designing the space so that it doesn't feel as large as it is.

We go to Mexico every other year so I was quite shocked to hear "grathias" and not "gracias" when we first went to Barcelona.

The 3 and 5 years olds won't as well, at least not for very long.
Our daughter still remembers aspects of our cruise/trip when she was 3. Not all of it, but certain highlights. We haven't helped at all by taking so many Disney cruises. Sometimes they begin to blur together even for me. :)

if it's the only ship they ever go on, then maybe....or maybe not...or maybe it won't be the only ship...
but we don't really care if they remember or not..
this past summer (2017), we all spent 3 weeks together at SSR in WDW...
i'm not even sure how much the 2 year old (the one who'll be 3 on the cruise) remembers of the trip at this point, only a half year later..
though mickey/minnie et all did make a huge impact on her..
the 4 year old (the one who'll be 5 on the cruise), does remember at this point...but in years to come? who knows..

it was a fun trip regardless of whether they eventually remember or not..
it was actually a very difficult trip for them and their parents....flying halfway around the world is no walk in the park with wee ones...
but everyone decided to go as you never know what tomorrow will bring..

and wouldn't you know it....we got back and i was diagnosed with cancer....so you see? don't put it off, no matter how young they are..

we did enjoy the Dream, though i thought it was a bit crowded...or rather there were a lot of people on board...but we did enjoy it a lot....(yes, i cried when we had to get off at the end)...
my daughter and son in law were on the magic two years ago and really enjoyed it immensely, so i'm guessing the rest of us will as well..

I have started a thread for our cruise in the cruise meet section if anyone wants to keep up on planning or if people have any questions about cruising in Europe, etc. Hopefully see you there!

We are going on this cruise this summer. I would rather not do the excursions through Disney, so is it possible to just get off the ship and walk around on our own? I wasn't sure if the port was close to any sites or if transportation would be necessary. I know Disney has some excursions that are on your own, but they are about $80 each (there will be 4 of us). If transportation is necessary what would you suggest? We are mostly excited about Barcelona before and London after, so just trying to figure out what to do each day in port. Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

We did the Dover to Barcelona cruise in 2017, and in Cadiz and Lisbon we were able to walk (maybe 10 minutes) from the port to the main part of town. We did a "free" (tips expected but not required) walking tour in Cadiz and a private walking tour in Lisbon, but if you have a decent guide book, you could tour entirely on your own easily.

We stopped in Le Havre rather than Brest. We did a Disney excursion to Mont St. Michel. It didn't look like there was much to do right near the port at Le Havre, but I don't know about Brest.

We didn't stop at Portland, so I don't know about that. I can tell you that in Dover, Dover Castle is not far from the cruise terminal and worth visiting, if you can figure out what to do with your luggage. Since our cruise started in Dover, we walked from our hotel the day before embarkation.
