just wondering for those of you that have traveled on the western cruise, are immunizations (shots) necessary for cozamel and grand cayman? also wondering do they accept us cash or travelers checks or does money have to be trannsferred to whatever the tender in the country your in is, also do we now need a passport for these countrys or is a birth certificate still ok? thank you for any help.

Hi Deb--

We cruised on the Magic's Western route on Thanksgiving. We took birth certificates in lieu of passports and felt comfortable in doing so. You shouldn't need any immunizations, etc.

As far as currency, the US dollar is very welcome on both islands. I would assume travelers checks (in US dollars) would also be accepted but, as I saw it, cash is king on both islands.

Hey Disney Deb just be careful when you get change from local vendors.Make sure to have smaller bills on the islands and ask for US change. One vendor at Playa Sol claimed not to have US cureency until I said never mind I didn't want the stuff, then he realized he had some in his otherpocket ;) ;) ;)

we have been all over in the carribean, and have never had a problem with using US dollars, but some places have had problems with using traveler's checks...

also a birth certificate will do, although a while back there were some threads on the board about the pros of using passports, especially if an emergency would happen and you would have to disembark from the ship at one of the ports...
