Hello,
I'm looking for an affordable ocean front condo on the west coast of Maui.
We're not going until winter of 2014/15. We plan do go for a week at Aulani, then a week on Maui.Looking for a great ocean view where we can see the whales. Does anyone have links to people who own condos or where you have rented before that might meet what we are looking for.

Thanks, I'll be excited to hear from everyone

Rick

My favorite West Maui place is the Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas (but get a room in the dolphin or emerald buildings - they are closest to the beach)

I've also stayed at the Maui Eldorado. They have a large beachfront cabana that guests can use. It has a fridge, lounge chairs, showers and a library. The rooms are across the golf course, but the cabana will give you awesome views of black rock and the whales.

You can try vrbo.com for privately owned condos. I've rented through them before and had no problems.

ETA: Check out the Hawaii Entertainment Book. There are discounts offered for hotels/resorts.

Check out VRBO for some great condos. One place that I really like is Honua Kai. Excellent newer condos, beautiful pools, beach front (although the beach is a little rocky there are many others you can easily get to for variety) and actaully not that expensive for Maui. The Westin has a great timeshare condo called the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas. This is NOt the same as the Westin Maui, that is only a hotel, not condo and it is oceanfront. Any of the other beach condos will be on Kaanapali beach proper and they are older, not quite as nice etc. You can get some timeshare units at the Marriott but they are expensive and there are not a lot. There are other oceanfront condos but alot of them are down in Wailea. Good luck

Are you looking only for West Maui (Lahaina, Kaanapali, Honokawai, Napili, Kapalua) or are you looking at South Maui (Maalea, North Kihei, South Kihei, Wailea and Makena) as well? We prefer South Kihei, Wailea or Makena as there is less traffic and less wind.

Our favorite condo is Wailea Elua, but it is not budget priced. We own at Aston Maui Banyan and even though we are across the street from Kam 2 beach, we have seen whales from our Lanai. For the best whale watching, you need to get out in a boat. -- Suzanne

While in Maui you should take the boat ride over to Lanai. A very small island. I lived there for a year. It is very pretty.

We rented at Kapalua Villas and watched whales from our lanai. It wasn't budget though.

We've stayed in Napili Point resort twice now. They are one and two bedroom condos on a cove that is loaded with sea turtles. So far it's been the best snorkeling on Maui for turtles (plenty of fish too, but the turtles are amazing here), no travel needed. Also a 3 minute walk behind the condo is Napili bay beach, one of the best beaches on Maui. And you can't beat the Gazebo or Sea house for breakfast, both within walking distance. Last trip we barely drove anywhere since we were so happy right at "home".

We're hoping to get back there July 2014.

most advise Kaanapali area for teens and first visits.

I've been looking into Redweek to rent points for Westin or Marriott villas.

Honua Kai also gets great reviews and is very pretty but it's away from the action which is good or bad depending on preference.

Look @ VRBO to check out Kaanapali Villas, Kaanapali Alli, Honua Kai.

We're going with extended family so trying to find aspects that appeal to all is difficult.

I spend lots of time on the hawaii board @ tripadvisor.

let us know what you pick!

We stayed in Lahaina at the Puamana condos. Found it on vrbo.com. It was a beautiful beachfront condo with view of Lanai. Just a couple minutes from downtown. LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!!!

It's been many years, but Sands of Kahana was pretty good and it is on the beach.

ah for once I can offer some helpful infomation on the disney boards... We have several times used www.chasenrainbows.com. They have a section called affordable.

What are the ages of your kids? I agree with the earlier poster if possible $ wise you want to be as close to kannapali as possible with older kids.

We love the Hale Mahina and Makani Sands they are older 60 to 70 style condo's right on the beach just north of Kannapali. They have small swimable beaches and pools perferect for younger kids.

Kannapali Shores and The Mahana are bit lower priced than being right in Kannapali and older kids could Beach walk or walk on a boardwalk to some more action.

Hope this Helps.. Maui is my hubby's vacation of choice. I had to totally talk him into Florida this year. Disney better be good or I will be going back to Maui every year for the rest of our lives... Quess we could have bigger problems.

We found a really great deal a few years ago on a 1 BR condo in Kihei for $100/n on Craigslist.

About 5 years ago, we stayed at the Kahana Sunset resort in West Maui. I was very happy with it.
