Mardonna--We're on the same cruise. Have you checked out the cruise meet board? Look for the July 2 thread. You'll meet lots of people who will be on board with you.
One of the places I learned about from this board is the Krystal Resort in Puerto Vallarta. It may be just what you're looking for, but it's not a
DCL excursion. It's a resort within walking distance from the pier, which may work out well for you since you have very young children. You can easily go back to the boat any time if you need to. Pools, beaches--and day use is free. Look for the "PV in the Afternoon" thread on this board--it's a few days old, so search back 3-4 pages.
A friend who has cruised to Mexico several times also said you can just grab a cab and ask them to take you to a great beach. Then make arrangements for them to come back and pick you up. I was skeptical about this, but she insisted that her family has done it that way and never had a problem. Maybe someone else out there has done this???
