Were you offered a "special" when buying in?

So my DH and I went on a tour Sunday. We find out once we are in that whatever special we are offered, we only have three days to jump on it to get it (yeah, thanks for telling us BEFORE we sign up for the tour). Wonderful considering we were just taking the tour for more info for when we are HOPING to buy in one year.
Anyway, our guide told us basically that if we did not take advantage of the current promotion, when we call back at a later date, we would basically be out of luck and have to pay full price. As compared to right now with a friends and family deal, Disney would pay about 1/3 of our down payment and give us 150 points with a use year from Aug. 2005 to use in addition to those we actually pay for beginning Aug. 2006.
Has anyone else had this happen and you still got a special some time later?
For everyone in general, what kind of special did DVC give you when buying in, if you don't mind me asking? Just trying to see if all these specials generally amount to the same thing, dollar-wise, in the long run. Buying in right now is not much of an option, and I'm just wondering if we would end up paying more than the other Joes walking into the DVC tour in December.

Any specials such as better financing options are frequently limited to the 3 days after a tour. Interesting a phone contact doesn't invoke the same limits. The difference with DVC and many other systems is that IF they tell you it's only 3 days, they mean it and will stick to it. They don't tell you this upfront though we've discussed it here over the years occasionally.

When I took the tour last March, I think the incentive was either extra points the first year or some kind of discount (rather small if I remember correctly) There was no mention of 3 days to decide, but I was definitely not ready to buy, so a 3 day limit would not have swayed me a bit. When the F&F deal came along I jumped at it, even though I wasn't planning on buying until next year.

If there was a 3 day limit, it seems it doesn't prevent you from getting a future incentive.

We took the tour and the price for SSR was 98/point with the offer of it being 90/point but that expired in 3 days.

Personally I didn't care. I, like you, was just there to show hubby what it was all about so he would be informed when we bought it for our 10 year anniversary - 4 years away.

So we were basically up front with our guide on this. Well when we got home the 15% came out making the points 83.30 per point. We jumped on it. And we did it within the 3 day time limit of the other offer.

The friends and family deal that you were offered will expire on Jan 15, 2006 for everyone. Because you took the tour, it will expire for you in 3days from the date of tour.

No one knows what the new incentive will be, but you WILL be eligible for any future incentives they offer, just not the one they offered you on the tour.

Dollar-wise, any future incentive will probably end up costing more that what is currently being offered, as this offer ($83ppt) has been unprecedented in the amount of cash discounts.

Not sure what UY they were trying to sell you, but if you purchased any 2005 UY this year, you would get 2005 points basically payment and dues free. If you ask MS, they will normally bank those points for you on an exception.

Your payments would start in another month or so, so probably looking at payments beginning in Feb or March 2006. If you had planned on buying in 2007, would the 10 months make a huge difference? You could also place a downpayment and still have a month or so to complete and return your paperwork, allowing a little more time to think about it without being obligated to complete the sale. I believe they give you 30 or 45 days.

I think any future offer may result in the loss of first years points to get discount (Magical Beginnings) or a smaller discount of $5-$10 per point or $88 to $93 per point range.

This offer as close to pre-opening sales because SSR opened at $79 per point. There has always been some type of incentive, but never a flat 15% off and keep current year points.

I didn't get offered any "special" when I took the tour, which was good, since I'd automatically think "Oh, oh-pressure to buy. Run!" The only "pressure" I felt was that the guide knew we were considering one certain resort and said "Well, that resort is over 90% sold and we'll probably stop selling it next month," which turned out to be true-I toured 1/2, and they stopped selling that resort exactly one month later! BTW, I say "I" toured the resort because DH didn't even care to tour the resort with me-he had no interest in DVC. Boy, how things change in a few years!

We were offered a special when we attended a seminar on our October 2004 cruise. We didn't buy in then, we just wanted info. After returning from our October 2005 cruise, DH and I decided to look into DVC more. We found out about the 15% off special and decided to go for it. I really wanted to wait and save up so we didn't have to finance so much, but our friends who are DVC members gave us a cost history and prices seem to go up every year or so. If we would have waited, we would have missed the 15% special and would have paid more per point. In order to get the 15% special, you need to give DVC the name of a member (it is a referral discount). There are many on this board who are willing to refer you. If you need a name, you can use us...just pm me.

We just signed our documents this month and we have an August use year. We got our 150 points for August 2005 and we will likely start making our payments in February. We don't have to pay dues for 2005, but we will in 2006. We will get 150 points again in August 2006. If you have any questions, feel free to pm me.

1) Yes.
2) We got nine-years of FREE Park Hopper admission tickets.

Now that's a pretty good incentive especially if they covered everyone staying on your reservation.

BCV for $60 a point 3 years ago.

Actually it was $75 and we got $5 off if we did not choose a 3 day vacation (which we didn't) and we also got the first years points which we rented (equivalent to magical beginings) for $10 ea.

We signed up while at WDW in the spring and for the life of me I cant remember putting any money down (it was an add on). Then we got home and the stuff came in the mail and I just decided to wait. Forgot about it all summer and in the fall got a call I could still do it and the rest is history. :cool1:

As of Thursday morning, Dec 22 the F&F offer was extended until February 1. We found this out at the Merry Mixer.

We never took a tour. When we finally decided to buy in late summer '03, what they offered was Magical Beginnings, $10 off the $84 price of BWV point if you didn't take the '03 points. We took that offer, and bought 200 points. They were also selling a few BCV and VB points at that time and I don't know if the same offer held for those resorts.

The offer was not valid for the 50 point VWL points we added on from DVC at the same time, those points did cost $84 and we got and used the '03 points so it did work out.

When did you buy to get that incentive???

It was early on in the program. I believe the offers were made up to 1995 or 1996. The free pass program ended on 12/31/99 regardless on when you bought in. So nine years of free passes is a very early member.
