My family and I have been taking our February vacation in Florida almost every year for since 1992. The first couple of years we stayed at Port Orleans and then Dixie Landings. Very nice but I started to stay outside of Disney in 1995 so our vacation budget would go further. Since then my family has grown and we have been doing time share rentals (Vistana, Hilton grand vacation club) and have been happy with this. This year we are visiting another timeshare, Orange Lake, which I hear is very nice. Problem was, we are coming in on February 12th and our rental does start until the 14th. I knew I had to come up with a place to stay for those 2 days. Then Friday i get a card from Disney announcing special reduced rates at their deluxe resorts until Thursday, February 13th. Well, doesn't that work out perfect. I called Disney and was able to book the Animal Kingdom lodge for 2 nights, the 12th and the 13th, at a rate of only $109!!! I paid $114 for DL and PO and that was 10 years ago. So, I'm excited to be returning to a Disney resort after all these years. We'll be a lttle tight in the room but I requested the bunk bedroom which I was told, is bigger. Any other AKL advice??? Thanks

I will be at AKL for the first time FEb. 4-9. From all the reading I have done on the place, most people say take advantage of the storytelling at the firepit at 6:30 each evening. I am planning storytelling and dinner at Boma on our first evening.

Definitely eat at either Boma or Jiko, and make some time for the pool, it's really nice.

Get up early in the morning at least one day and watch the animals being fed! We also got a great deal on a room last month; unfortunately, we didn't have a savannah view, but we still saw lots of animals just by walking around, both inside and outside the lodge.

I can't remember what time they were fed; sometime between 7 & 8 am we watched a truck come into one of the savannahs and the three giraffes RAN to get to the fresh food being put out in the trees. In general, the animals are more active early and late in the day...

We also LOVED our meal at Boma and found Mara very convenient for quick breakfasts and snacks.

Have a great trip!

Remember to go out to Arusha rock at about 4:00 pm They call the animals over to feed them They are almost close enough to touch. Plus the CMs are there to tell you all about the different animals. We love AKL:Pinkbounc
