Or at least getting there, anyway. All our stuff is still in boxes and the shelves haven't been put back on the bookcases, but almost everything is out of the apartment and at the house now.
The move itself went just fine. I liked the movers we had, they were very efficient and moved everything without even a scratch. Even got our dresser into the bedroom (which we were worried wouldn't be possible), and did so without bumping dresser or gouging holes in the walls. They had to take apart a couple of desks to fit them into DH's office, but got everything in just great! I'm very happy with the movers we got.
I did have an Adventure In Driving yesterday that just emphasized my desire for a small SUV and pushed the Jeep Liberty, Dodge Durango, or Ford Escape (haven't decided which yet) up on my list of cars to look at.
While trying to drive down to the house my dad (in his Bronco II) and I (in my Taurus) ran into reallyreallyreallyREALLY heavy rain and had to pull off. Did fine in the parking lot of a pool for a bit. Rain looked like it was about to let up, so we left our safe parking lot. HUGE MISTAKE. We got a block down the road before another heavy downpour hit, and tried pulling off again. Right into a subdivision that was flooded!
Thank goodness DH and I didn't buy in there!
My dad had to pull around me, turn around, and then coach me via cell phone back down the middle of the street (the high spot) in order for me to get out of there without flooding my car. By some miracle (known as dads in this instance), we got out without any damage except to my emotional state
, but I'm NEVER pulling into that subdivision again! And I want to at least look at small SUVs for my new vehicle. According to my dad, the water never was that high on my car, but I stayed in the high spot and had him to coach me. Watching the other vehicles going around on the sides in the deeper parts, I know it was too deep for my car to move safely. If my dad hadn't been there, I would have panicked.
Anyway, we got out safely, dumped my car at my parent's house (which was high and dry), and took my dad's Bronco to our house after the rain let up a bit a few minutes later.
Kitties are doing as well as can be expected. Blaze, who isn't the bravest of kitties and who was raised in a couple of rooms for the most part of the breeder's house, was in a near panic.
Poor kitty wouldn't cross the neat bridge we have (which I expected him to love) unless someone was walking with him, nor would he come down the stairs by himself. He's spending most of his time slinking around instead of running like normal, but he's starting to adjust. Skye, on the other hand, was given pretty much free reign of a two-story house while he was growing up, so he adjusted quickly. Really only loud noises startle him, overall he's pretty content already.
We let them sleep with us last night (sleep? What sleep? Try cuddle) and that seemed to make them feel better. Both seem a little more confident this morning.
I'm sure they'll fully adjust in no-time.
No internet at the house yet. We're still trying to find the phone number of the neighborhood rep so we can get it installed
(For those who asked -- I'm in League City now instead of Pearland)
