We just got home today from a very fun and successful 5 day trip to DL. We did the WOC Preferred Dining, and boy, was it worth the money.

First and foremost, WOC. The show is FANTASTIC!!! Seeing clips on youtube, etc, just don't give you any idea how magical it really is. My 10 year old absolutely loved it as well. We did the dining, as I said above, and as I told numerous parents I talked to at the hotel, this really is your best option, whether you choose the PD or the picnic. We were stunned at the line for WOC fastpasses each day in DCA. On Sunday, people were still in line at 3 pm!!! (We tried to get GRR FP's. and the people in the line said they were STILL waiting for WOC FP.) They did add the third show each night, as well.

We arrived about 7:30 for the first show, and were ushered by numerous CM's to the center section of the viewing area. This was definately the best spot, and the whole area seemed to be the reserved section for dining and picnic packages. We found a great spot at the top of the steps, and sat down (everyone in that section was seated and relaxing while waiting for the show.) We had some great families next to us, and so the wait flew by quickly. We all noticed in our section as the show became closer that the sections on either side of us were packed with people, all of whom were standing close to each other. Like the mom next to me said, "They're packed in like sardines!"

The pre-show was fun and all about getting you excited for the show. There are these huge, lit up characters- Sebastian, Mike Wazowski, Lumiere, etc. They go through the crowds. (got some GREAT pics). We stood up as pre-show started, and still had plenty of space.

Then, of course, the WOC show. All I can really say is.....GO SEE IT! It really was worth the wait. If you sit too close, you'll get wet with mist (we had a great Disney manager we ran into who suggested the middle of the section, top of stairs, to avoid getting wet, and still see really well) and a little hot when the fire flares up.

The glow fest we ran across afterwards was a little crazy, but I think it's great for teens and adults. My daughter didn't like it at all. Also, I budget with gift cards, and I was really irritated that all the vendors for the WOC only take cash. So, make sure you take a bunch of cash if your kids want light up bubble makers, glow cotton candy, etc.

The rest of the trip was tons of fun! Getting my kid off of Mulholland Madness was a challenge, and Splash Mountain, Grizzly River Run and Space Mountain were also big wins. Fantasmic was great, and we started pin collecting, which my daughter went crazy for. She was thrilled when cast members saw her on Wednesday and remembered her from the day before, curious to see what she'd gotten since they last saw her.

The Hojo was fine, as always, and I would recommend Zippy Shuttle for a private shuttle. They did a great job. Mimi's was good (and two kids meals are only $9.99!), AG was okay, Minnie's Breakfast was delicious, etc. Our big fave was Ralph Brennan's. For some reason, we never ate there on previous trips, and it was yummy and very decently priced.

We also did a cartoon portrait for my daughter (in DCA), which is gorgeous. I was very aggravated at waiting 5 minutes, first at their sign and then at the cash register while the cashier pointedly ignored us, then assisted someone else. I have to admit, I got a bit irritated, and said we were there first. :headache: I hate being that obnoxious person, but we had obviously been waiting for her to finish her oh-so-important chat with a fellow employee. On a side note, while my dd was being drawn, I watched four more groups walk up and then finally walk away, since she had gone back to hide behind the cart. It really was atrocious. Also, bear in mind that's yet another place that only takes cash.

So, despite a minor :confused3 or two, it was a wonderful trip, and we already can't wait to go again!

Glad you had a good trip! Sounds like you had a great WoC experience, as well. YAY!

Thought maybe I could address 2 things you mentioned.

The cartoonist at DCA does not take gift cards because they are not Disney-run. They are an outside vendor.

The CMs selling "glow items" cant take gift cards because they don't have the equipment to run them. They work off of cash (usually from an apron).

This is why I am always unsure of the "Gift Card Budgeting" technique. It can leave you without buying-ability.

Having some cash is an EXCELLENT suggestion.

Glad you had a great time. Would love to see some photos when you get settled in at home.

For some reason, I can't get them to post! But, I'll keep working on it!

Thanks for sharing! So happy to hear that you had a great time!! I ran into the gift card issue on my very first trip to DLR, so after that I started bringing some gift cards for eating in the parks and cold cash to carry in pocket for vendors and such! what are ya gonna do? It does suck when you encounter a vendor (Disney employee or not) that has no clue about customer service. But you didnt let it ruin your trip..so all ended well!! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you had a great trip. Can you give me an
idea of the prices of the WOC cotton candy etc..

TIA

Which building were you in at the Hojo? Did it have the new Keurig coffee makers? We're staying there for the first time in November and would love to see any pics of the hotel you may have to share. Thanks!

Thanks for the details on your trip! It sounds great, we are going mid-July and reading the posts from all you who have gotten back is a great way to gear myself up for the trip. I am really excited about WOC and cannot wait! Thanks for sharing :goodvibes

emacat.
Just wondering. If I read this right the people that ordered picnic packages were in the same area with as the people that had the table service package?
Wanted to know because right now we have ressie's for AG and although we are a party of 2 adults and 3 kids the boys are teenagers so for dinning they are considered adults and AG is going to cost us $200. If I can order picnic's and still get good seats I am going to change my ressie. It would save me $125. Thanks for the great report. Hopefully pics load.

MartinaC, we had the reservations at AG, but the group next to us had done the picnic reservations, and they were in the same area. So, judging by that, I'm presuming it's the same location. I think if you could save money, it would be great! The picnics are much more reasonable, and if I hadn't already reserved the other, I probably would have gone that route.

Still trying to figure out pics. Knock on wood I should have them up soon.

A few years ago, we stayed in Building #1, Disney view. This time, we stayed in Building #3, on the upper floor. Both are great, and the rooms are really spacious. We requested a the upper floor so we had the skylights, and I really enjoyed that. There was a nice big closet with a rollaway, a great balcony, and all the basics one would need. The stairs are a bit of a pain with luggage, but it's no big deal. There are Keurig coffeemakers, and they supply you with Columbia coffee. We bought hot cocoa (yummy!) at the gift shop.

Only a few pics of WOC, most of what we got was on video. If you go, this show is a must, even if it is a bit chaotic!

Darn it, I hate putting in pictures. Technology and I aren't friends, and they're huge! Sorry everyone.

We really enjoyed the Drawn to the Magic show, even if really there was no drawing involved at all!-

A pic of the Beast's library. Finding a plush, toy, shirt or pin of him is virtually impossible. Grrrrr....-

This is over near Midway Mania. The sun was horrible that day, but my dd had a blast pretending to be a doll-

Big hugs emacat!!! thanks for the quick responce and helping me save money.
The pics look awesome. thanks for posting. :flower3:

Asbsolutely LOVE your pictures! It's making me sooooo excited for our trip! Your DD looks like she is having such a great time!

She did! It really was a blast. We had a fantastic time two years ago, but if anything, this trip was EVEN better! you'll have an amazing time!

And thanks, Dobie!

It was crazy chaotic on Mon and Tues (open AP days...), but the weekend and especially Wednesday, the crowds were just fine, and wait times weren't nearly as bad.

Thanks for the pics of the hotel room! I just told my DH that there are no elevators and he has to carry all our luggage. LOL. Surprise!!

Everything looks great, can't wait to try out the Hojo for the first time.

We were told that the preferred seating is for the people with dinner res. and the picnic people get fastpasses for another color section. I understand, though, that it was really confusing the first few days and and people were put in the wrong spot so you may want to double check the locations.
