 from New Jersey!

I'm a bride2be getting married in September on the 10th. My fiance' and I choose to go on a WDW Honeymoon!!! We'll be flying out September 12th for an early morning flight and flying out later in the evening on the 18th. We will be staying at POR.

This will be the 2nd time for me to be in WDW. The last time I visited was back in 1997 and I never stayed in a WDW resort before; this will be my first. This will be my fiance's first time visiting WDW and I'm excited to bring him and have him share in the fun! :teeth:

I look forward to speaking with all of you and hopefully learning how to make the best out of our WDW Honeymoon.

Kathie

Congratulations! You will have a wonderful time! Can you tell us what you have planned so far?

For our honeymoon? Omg, barely anything - help! : :earseek:

I've been to Disney once and loved it. It was back in 1997 and I neither stayed at a resort nor dined in WDW except counter service. We were on spring break.

This will be my fiance's first time to WDW, my second. Both first timers at staying a resort.

We have the hotel (POR) and we have the MYW Dining Pass We know we want to see the Hoopty Doo Review and the Illuminations show but that's it so far.

Any referrals, advice, would be appreciated. Our travel agent said it would be a good idea to start thinking about all of this and making our reservations. I actually wanted to do this, that way we dont have to worry on our honeymoon but to show up and have fun :teeth:

I agree with your travel agent—making plans now will save stress later on. Disney has so much to offer—everyone can find something they love to do.

You’ve definitely got to try to squeeze in some nice sit-down meals at the restaurants (Disney has some really great ones as well as some fun ones with characters). What types of food do you like?

Also, are you adventurous? They have some neat things like parasailing, surf lessons, etc. if you like that type of thing.

I’m happy to help—I love trip planning!

Thanks! :goodvibes

Yes, I agree with my travel agent too. It's in my nature to be preparred. Plus, I know how wrapped up you get once you're in Disney that i know we'll forget stuff and not get the most out of our honeymoon like we had hoped.

As for our food likings, we both like almost everything. We like spicy foods, we like italian, spanish. I like seafood, he does not. That seems to be the only difference with us really. Tom is a really big food person(especially his desserts). This is one of the reasons we went with the MYW Dining Program. That and for the reason that you can't beat it..especially since the sit down meals are where the $ starts to come in.

Yes, Tom is the adventerous type and I'm just excited to be going to Disney so suggestions for this would be good too. We did ensure we had all the park passes (hopper, water park, quest, MGM).

I see you're going to POR in May. Have you been before? I cannot wait to go there. It looks to be such a romantic and lovely resort to stay for a honeymoon.

Well, you’ve come to the right place for plenty of planning information! Between this board, the theme parks board, and the restaurants board, you’ll find tons of great info.

Since you’re on the MYW dining plan, you should be able to have some really nice meals. One of the best ways I’ve found to choose restaurants is to look at the menus on www.allearsnet.com -- that way you can see what menus appeal to you the most. I’ll list some of our very favorite restaurants below:

Artist Point—this is our hands down favorite at WDW. It’s located at the Wilderness Lodge, and it’s got a quiet, laid back yet elegant atmosphere. The food is absolutely decicious (we loved the pork chop, scallops, and buffalo steak when we tried those entrees), and their berry cobbler for dessert is my favorite dessert anywhere. The service is exceptional as well. This is a pricy restaurant, but well worth it in our opinion.

Kona Café—this restaurant has terrific breakfast as well as delicious desserts after dinner. The desserts are artful and tasty, and there are many to choose from. It’s at the Polynesian and has a casual atmosphere.

Le Cellier—this is at Epcot in the Canada pavilion. Their cheese soup appetizer is to die for, especially with the pretzel bread they serve. We’ve eaten here for both lunch and dinner and enjoyed both meals. The lunch menu is a little less “fancy” than the dinner menu, as well as less expensive.

Boma—this is my favorite spot for breakfast. It’s a buffet style restaurant at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Yum is all I can say! There is such a huge variety of food (both traditional American fare and some more unique items from Africa) that everyone is sure to find something that they love. They also serve dinner here, and if you’re an adventurous eater this is a good spot. If you’re really picky I would just go for breakfast and skip dinner.

Liberty Tree Tavern—this is our favorite character dinner. It’s in the Magic Kingdom in Liberty Square. When we were there last the characters were Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Chip, Dale, and Meeko. It’s traditional Thanksgiving type food served family style. Warning: the rolls are addictive! My husband and I love them, but we try to save room for the actual meal. :teeth:

So you can check out the menus, some other restaurants we like are ‘Ohana, Whispering Canyon Café, 50’s Prime Time Café, and Rainforest Café.

Moving on to suggestions for fun things to do, have you ever seen one of the Cirque du Soleil shows? The show at WDW is called “La Nouba” and it’s really a neat show. Tickets are pretty pricey, but it’s a really neat thing to do.

I am a big chicken, but I hear that parasailing (which you can do from the marina at the Contemporary) is incredible. Also, we love shopping at Downtown Disney for some time away from the parks. You can find any Disney item you ever wanted and more!
We also enjoy touring the various Disney resorts for a break. They each have such unique, fun theming. If you don’t already have it, you could purchase the “Field Guide to Hidden Mickeys” and go on a hidden mickey hunt in the resorts and parks.

I have not stayed at Port Orleans Riverside yet (I’m going in only 18 days—wahoo!), but I think you’re right that it looks very romantic. I hear that they have nightly carriage rides through the property, and I’ll bet that’s pretty romantic. I also plan to walk over to the French Quarter side and try some beignets, LOL!

how exciting!!! we're leaving for our Disneymoon in just about a month, and we're staying at POFQ!! I've been before, in 1997 as well, and like you my fiance has never been, I can't wait for him to experience it.

There's a LOT of knowlegeable people on the boards here and don't be afraid to ask questions, someoen will be bound to know the answer!

Congrats!!!

just some more info...we were able to book an Illuminations cruise with a group of people on the DIS boards, keep looking for when your time is available to be booked, you can try for yourself first thing in the morning EXACTLY 90 days out, or you can hope that someone on here has room to share :) We also have the plus dining option, and right now we're trying to coordinate dining with what parks we'll be in that day. Biggest tip I can give is be organized, at least have an IDEA of what you're going to be doing, I convinced my H2B of this, if it was his way, he'd just show up and hope for hte best. He has no idea what he's in for :rotfl:

We stayed at POR in 2000 for our Honeymoon. We had a great time and have been pack to stay there once already, with June just around the corner. We did Hoopty Doo too, and had a table right in front and were recognized for our honeymoon! We also loved Boatrights right at the hotel, they even brought us out a cake to celebrate our wedding. Chef Mickeys was fun too! Have a great trip!

Thanks for all the information and tips gang. This is going to help me out a lot :)

Congrats! I hope you have a great time. My fiance' and I will be staying at the Grand Floridian on our honeymoon. It's expensive, but it'll be worth it to splurge on ourselves.
