We arrived home last night from a great trip.:cool1:

We stayed at the Davy Crockett Ranch for the first time. When we arrived at check-in we were offered an upgrade to the Sequoia Lodge as they were having problems with the electrics in some of the cabins.
We declined as although we love the Sequoia, we really wanted to try the Ranch this time as we felt we would enjoy it.

We were right, we loved the Ranch and were so glad we didnt take the upgrade. The cabin, as mentioned before, was in need of a little TLC, a few new cupboards and some new furniture is needed but we didnt care we loved it all the same.
The amount of time we actually spent there was minimal as we like to hit the parks full on but it was lovely having our own space in a cosy warm cabin in the evening.:thumbsup2

The Ranch itself was lovely. The pool was lovely and the kids really enjoyed it. We didnt actually eat at the restaurant there but it was always busy and whilst swimming we saw some characters visiting the tables.
The shop had a good selection of gifts, toys and essentials and we visited a few times and left a few euros lighter.
We enjoyed the farm area and we were able to feed the horses with the apples we had bought for them. My boys were also able to sit on the horses and have photos done. My eldest especially enjoyed this as we had bought him all the cowboy stuff they sell in the shop. So he was on the horse with his cowboy hat, holster and guns, sheriff badge and handcuffs so he was well happy.:cloud9:

We would certainly stay at the Ranch again. The drive from Calais was fine and the tolls were 19euros 20.

The drive back to the ferry port did drag a little but i think that was more to do with the fact we were going home.:sad1:

The parks were quieter during the week than we had expected as it was half term and we were able to get a lot done. Saturday was significantly busier but we expected this. However, we still went to the Disneyland Park and spent the whole day there, it was great and we managed to get a lot more done than we expected.

Our holiday highlight was definately on Saturday. We were riding POTC for about the 100th time and it was also our last full day in the park. As our boat cruised past the Blue Lagoon, there he was!!! Jack Sparrow on the edge of the restaurant, my son called out "Captain Jack!!" and he turned around and replied and told us to have a "good voyage!!" It was just magic. My son is Jack Sparrow mad and he was grinning from ear to ear.
When we got off the ride we went to the restaurant and asked if we were allowed to go in to see Jack and they said it was absolutely fine. We had hoped to dine here but we were told they were fully booked unfortunately.:sad1: However the CMs encouraged us to grab Jack when we could which we did and we had some great quality time with him. We took photos and said goodbye. It was really fantastic and it made our holiday.

Other highs were definately Cafe Mickey where we had a character breakfast. The interaction was excellent and the food was nice too. We had Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, Geppetto, Robin Hood, Stitch and Pinocchio.
We also loved our character tea at the Plaza Gardens. Again nice food, savoury as well as sweet foods and great interaction.:thumbsup2

Obviously the parks are big highs and no grumbles there. We were happy we managed to ride on the paddle steam boat as it was closed last year when we visited. Big Thunder Mountain was even better than i remembered and was my favourite ride. It is definately better than its WDW counterpart.

I don't really have any lows as such. The usual one would be smoking in the parks but i just didnt let it bother me, it was there, but no big deal.
Unorganised character meets are a problem which i hope they sort out. They do have organised meets where they have a queue line and i just wish they would do this for all the meets. But we just didnt bother with them and enjoyed meeting the characters at our meals.:cool1:

I get a bit fed up with hearing from some people that DLP doesnt appeal to them as they find the CMs unfriendly and the europeans rude. We didnt think this was the case. The CMs were great and we had no problems with any rudeness or queue jumping. The only thing i must say is we did witness some embarassing behaviour and a few arguments and lots of children being shouted at and smacked in public:mad: by........the Brits!!!!:sad2:

Very sad behaviour at times and a little frustrating. You always get a few incidents but the Brits were most definately the worse behaved. Shame on us!

We had a wonderful time and hope if you are still reading that i havent completely bored you but just wanted to write my thoughts.
To anyone going soon, if you have half as good a time as us, it will be magical.:cloud9:

Thanks for such an interesting report of your visit Leanne :goodvibes I'm glad you had a great time, and that your decision to stay put at the Ranch was the right one - it does sound fun!! :thumbsup2

What a fantastic time you had Leanne! :dance3:

I have to ask, and I don't care if I look silly, but who is Jack Sparrow???? This is trhe second time I've seen him mentioned today and I am curious... :confused3

Jack Sparrow is a character from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. He is the one played by Johnny Depp. Very popular with the ladies :flower3: . He is quite a difficult character to spot :confused3

Thanks for the explanation of JS - can anyone tell me if he was around in March 2006, or is he a new character?

Great to hear that you had a lovely. I agree I don't think we would have taken the change to the Sequoia Lodge as it is great to chill out at the cabin :goodvibes

glad you enjoyed your trip leanne,it makes me want to go back to the davy crockett if only we didn`t have to drive!!nothing like getting in to your own cosy cabin and putting the kettle on!!

I hope my eldest daughter sees Jack Sparrow as that will make her holiday. She thinks he is a dream, she has everything Jack Sparrow right down to her water bottle. I did not know that he could be around. How wonderful for your son to see him, Pirates of the Carribbean is so huge for kids at the moment.:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Might just have to have lunch at the Blue Lagoon ;)

Sounds like you had a great time Leanne.

As you can see from my signature we love the Ranch & haven't stayed anywhere else on property.

With kids it's ideal and as mine are now teenagers or older it's great not having to share a bedroom with them!

We saw Captain Jack Sparrow last week as well.
We were so excited - couldn't have been more pleased if it had been Johnny Depp himself (well........maybe).
It was last Thursday and it was a lovely warm day (for Feb, anyway) and he was just outside the exit to the ride and Le Coffre du Capitaine. Unfortunately he was coming to the end of his meet and greet, so we didn't get a photo. He was superb though. When someone called him Jack he said "CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow" like in the film, and then when he said he had to go he walked away with that slightly wobbly stagger that Johnny Depp does.
Brilliant!

This will appear in the last day of my trip report....when I finally get around to writing it. Going back to work has been a big shock.:scared1:

He was really great wasn't he?:thumbsup2 He sounded just like him and he had the character just right.
I agree about the weather it was lovely most of the time for us, we were walking around without our coats, great!

I will put some photos on, including the one of CAPTAIN Jack when i get DH to upload them.

Thanks for all your replies.:goodvibes
