We're back & better than ever - Complete!

After our great dinner at Flying Fish, my mom walked back to Yacht Club while I walked back to DHS to use a fastpass. I used my FP, walked back, went swimming in Stormalong Bay, and then watched Illuminations from the bridge between Boardwalk and the International Gateway. It was a great evening...but I had worked up an appetite again, and really felt like having something else to eat.

Around 10:00pm, we decided to go down to Beaches and Cream (which is open until 11pm nightly!) for a nice snack. We hadn't had a sit-down experience at Beaches and Cream in over 7 years, and we didn't realize how much we missed this place. :rotfl: After waiting about 30 minutes for a table and reading over a menu, we were seated inside. I couldn't resist tapping my feet to the catchy 50's music, and all around us were the most delicious-looking treats.

Here's what we decided to get.

IMG_2916.jpg

Just kidding. :lmao: We actually saw about 4 tables order the famous Kitchen Sink while we were there (at 10:30 in the evening!). This particular Kitchen Sink was ordered by a group of 5 girls, and they were kind enough to let me take a pic of it. I've never seen one so close before. :worship:

The girls did a great job on the Kitchen Sink, as you can see below. Without a doubt, trying the Kitchen Sink is on my bucket list, but I plan to have 3-4 other people with me to make the task more manageable.

We picked smaller sundaes - my mom created a two-scoop old-fashioned sundae with chocolate ice cream, hot fudge, and marshmallow topping (she got it without whipped cream, almonds, and the cherry). She really liked it.

IMG_2925.jpg

I saw the Milky Way sundae on the menu outside, and I knew I wanted to get a half-size portion of it - bundt cake topped with three scoops of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, butterscotch, whipped cream and a cherry. What could go wrong?

Well, a few things. It turns out that they recently changed the Milky Way sundae. It no longer includes the bundt cake, and now it includes white and dark chocolate shavings. I didn't realize the bundt cake was no longer included, since oddly enough, the outside menu and inside menu gave different descriptions (and I didn't re-read the inside menu since I assumed the menus were the same).

Also, my waitress put the wrong chocolate on top - instead of white and dark chocolate shavings, I received chocolate and peanut butter chips. So the final sundae wasn't what I was expecting at all.

IMG_2926.jpg

Milky Way sundae, is that really you?

IMG_2927.jpg

Oh well. The chocolate on top wasn't a huge deal, and I wasn't going to complain about the bundt cake. Plus, the sundae cost the same as a two-scoop old-fashioned sundae, so I didn't feel overcharged. I just probably would have chosen something else based on the circumstances (such as the strawberry shortcake dessert or a half-portion fudge mudslide).

My sundae was very good - the way I see it, it was an accidental hybrid between the Milky Way and No Way Jose (which I personally wouldn't order - I'm not the biggest peanut butter fan). I enjoyed the combo of creamy vanilla ice cream, gooey chocolate, and slightly salty peanut butter chips. That said, I wasn't completely enthusiastic about my dessert, and it showed. Here's what I ended up not eating.

My mom did a much better job on her sundae.

Overall, we really enjoyed being back at Beaches and Cream. It's such a fun place to dine, and the desserts they come up with are pure awesomeness and comfort. I would obviously choose differently next time, as the Milky Way sundae is no longer what it used to be, but we still had a great time and I'd happily return. :)

Yummy yummy. The original Milky Way sounds much better than the new version, and I would have enjoyed the peanut butter version as well. Not much for white chocolate.
I will have to wait for a large group trip as well for the kitchen sink. I don't think my family of 3 would be able to even put a dent into that.

It's been way too long since we've been to Beaches & Cream! :sad1: I really, really wanted to go there on our last trip, but I was vetoed in favor of Prime Time Cafe. However, next trip I'm determined to get back there. Thank you for reminding me just how good it is! :thumbsup2

Thank you for your review of Beaches and Cream. I am actually planning on taking the kids there for the famous Kitchen Sink. We are usually party of two or three so we never braved it before. But with 7 of us this trip (beginning part), I'm pretty sure we could manage one. :thumbsup2

Agreed on the Kitchen Sink. It looks incredible, but given its massive size (8 huge scoops of ice cream and a mountain of toppings), I think I'd need a group of at least 4-5 people to even consider trying it. I didn't even finish my 2-scoop sundae.

Sorry that you were vetoed - Prime Time is another fun place to dine and get some satisfying food, but hopefully next time you'll get another chance to try Beaches (their regular sundaes are even more incredible than our wimpy 2-scoop choices). :lmao:

thanks for posting the beaches and cream review - hoping to try there for first time this year.
I hope you get to try it - it's a really fun place to dine (especially when the cast performs their routine whenever a Kitchen Sink is brought out). :thumbsup2

Sounds like a perfect opportunity to try the Kitchen Sink! And divided among 7 people, I think it's a pretty good value. :goodvibes

Mmm, Beaches & Cream :cloud9:
I agree - amazing. Having such an enjoyable experience there reminded us that there's a whole world of Disney restaurants that we haven't been to in years (and a few that we've never tried at all). We're planning on mixing things up more in the future (it's not just gonna be signatures every single night). :thumbsup2

Thursday, March 8th was our last day. I woke up at about 10 and walked over to DHS to do a few final rides, but I hadn't had breakfast. I wanted to eat something at around 11:30, and there was an item on the Fairfax Fare menu that had me very intrigued - a gourmet Disney hot dog.

There was nobody in line ahead of me, so I got my meal very quickly which was nice. I also found a table with a nice view of one of my favorite rides.

IMG_2939.jpg

The gourmet hot dog came with a bag of potato chips. I didn't eat most of them, but I liked that the package had Donald on it.

And now, the pièce de résistance: a hot dog topped with macaroni and cheese, truffle oil, and bacon. :rotfl:

IMG_2940.jpg

I didn't know what to expect from this, but as soon as I got it I could smell the earthy truffle oil. I love that scent. :goodvibes I didn't eat any of the roll, but the sausage was good and I really enjoyed the flavor combination of meat, cheese, truffle, and bacon. I never expected to see truffle oil on a quick service menu, so whoever thought of this combination, I'm quite greatful. :thumbsup2

After my satisfying and unusual quick service meal, I walked back to the Yacht Club once again. I just love looking back at the park as most of the buildings gradually disappear from view. :goodvibes

That gourmet hot dog from Fairfax Fair may be the greatest thing I have ever seen! Two of my favorite foods combined (hot dogs and mac and cheese) plus it is topped with bacon...heaven. Add in the truffle oil and it's over the top. MY husband and I are on deluxe dining plan when we head to Disney World in 4 weeks...but I may have to find room for that beauty.

I had heard mixed things about that hot dog, but I honestly really enjoyed it. Plus, it's one of the few gourmet Disney dogs that I feel is worth the price (the hot dog, mac and cheese, truffle oil - it's a really satisfying choice). :goodvibes

Great reviews, especially Yachtsman! I was 50-50 as to whether I was scheduling Yachtsman for our next trip, but you sold me!

Thanks for reading - I'm glad you liked the reviews! Hopefully Yachtsman will be as great for you as it was for us. :goodvibes

Hey everyone! It's been a really busy week, so before I write the last review, I wanted to provide a brief update about our next trip.

Assuming the plans don't change, we'll be going down to WDW for another short trip in mid-May. We were able to change our hotel from Boardwalk to Beach Club (a positive change for us), and we've already made lots of dining plans for our trip!

Tentative meals include Rose & Crown (first time in over 6 years) Il Mulino (first time), Cape May breakfast (first time for breakfast - we had dinner here 9 years ago), Le Cellier lunch, Les Chefs de France (first time in almost 6 years), Sanaa, and Boma dinner (first time in almost 3 years).

We're excited to be going back to some places we haven't tried in years (or ever). It's likely that the plans will change slightly, but for now I'm looking forward to kicking off the next set of reviews in about a month and a half. :)

Sorry I haven't written the final review yet - midterms never end!

In the meanwhile, we're still feeling indecisive about ADRs for our next trip. We scrapped Cape May breakfast in favor of Captain's Grille (one of our current faves), but we're also seeing where else to fit in. We're thinking about trying San Angel Inn for the first time, and perhaps we might return to La Hacienda or Kouzzina (I've had dinner once at each place, and I'm intrigued enough to return).

The plans will probably keep changing, but I'm very excited about trying so many places that we've frequented less often (or not at all). And I'm definitely hoping to write the last review sometime over the weekend. :goodvibes

great photos and great reviews..

thank you so much for taking the time to do this...and hopefully your upcoming trip in May..

Thanks

Thanks so much for reading! I really can't wait for our next trip in about a month, and I'm definitely hoping to write dining reviews for our meals in May. :goodvibes

Our final meal of the trip was a late lunch at Beaches and Cream. Even though my sundae wasn't what I was expecting, we still really enjoyed the experience and felt like going back for some real food.

My mom asked for the double burger without cheese on a multigrain bun. She really enjoyed it.

IMG_2958.jpg

I chose the grilled chicken breast sandwich on a multigrain bun. I believe the chicken had been marinated so it was nice and moist. I didn't eat the bun, but I felt that the lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and fruit were fresh. Overall this was a satisfying lunch.

IMG_2959.jpg

For me, a meal at Beaches and Cream doesn't seem complete without getting some kind of ice cream creation. But after having a sundae the previous night, I decided to get something slightly less guilt-inducing.

IMG_2963.jpg

I got a diet coke float with fat-free vanilla ice cream. Since I can't taste any difference between regular and diet coke, this was very good to me. The ice cream (understandably) didn't seem as rich and creamy as the vanilla ice cream in the sundae, but I also didn't feel nearly as bad about finishing this (which I was easily able to do).

IMG_2966.jpg

So that brings us to the end of the trip. Overall, our dining experiences were wonderful. Yachtsman, Artist Point, Flying Fish, and Le Cellier all hit some extremely high notes, Captain's Grille was once again a solid meal, the counter service food was very good, and Beaches and Cream was simply fun and satisfying.

And after having such a great trip, we're very excited to return in May. We aren't doing a lot of signature meals because we're starting to regain confidence in more of the 1-credit restaurants. As such, we still have high hopes that we're going to really enjoy our meals. Hopefully I'll be able to put up reviews for the upcoming food in May. :goodvibes
