Our Fifth Anniversary at WDW with NO KIDS!!!

Day One:

We arrived at the Swan around 11:00 am and had early check-in through the recipe club. We had been to the Swan before for dinner, but it was our first time staying in one of their rooms. We usually stay in one of the Disney owned hotels, but we couldn’t pass up the terrific rate. ;) The Swan was very nice, clean, the staff seemed friendly (except for one bad encounter at the front desk), and we loved the location. Our room was on the 9th floor, king bed with a sleeper sofa, overlooking the Dolphin. The room was very nice, recently renovated, clean, bright and cheery, we were not disappointed. The heavenly bed was very comfy, and I liked having one sink in the bathroom and one sink outside of the bathroom in the dressing area. The room itself seemed big, I’m not sure of the square footage, but it’s larger than the YC/BC. After checking-in we headed over to Epcot for lunch at Nine Dragons. Sadly they have discontinued the buffet, but we decided to go ahead and stay. We had the Lunch for Two and it was great! There was plenty of food, sesame chicken… shrimp… pepper steak… soup…. too much actually, and we were glad we gave it a try. After eating we hit Norway, Mexico, the Universe of Energy, Innoventions, and Mission Space. Mission Space had been built up in my mind after reading reports of people getting sick… but we didn’t feel sick at all. In fact, we couldn’t even tell we were spinning. The ride was similar to Body Wars and I really wasn’t super impressed. It was fun, but not worth waiting in a huge line. After that we headed back to the hotel to shower and change clothes. We walked around the Swan and Dolphin and checked everything out. The Dolphin is definitely more of a family place. There were tons of kids running around and Tubbi’s seemed to be very popular with families… as well as the little 50’s style diner. The hotel is lovely, but the Swan seems more romantic and quiet. After exploring we hit the Boardwalk. We had dinner at the ESPN Club, went to Atlantic Dance, and then finished off the night back at the Swan doing Karaoke at Kimonos! It was so fun and we were happy to see a lot of people there. Everyone was singing, drinking, dancing, and having a great time.

Day Two:

We headed off to MGM-Disney Studios that morning. We got our fast passes for Rock n Roller coaster and then did Star Tours. After that we hit Who Wants to be a Millionaire and I got to FIRST PLACE just as the buzzer went off!!!!!!!!!!! I was sooooooo depressed. I couldn’t believe I got the top score only to run out of time. :( I actually screamed when I saw my name up top and everyone laughed at me. Even the host turned around and said “it’s nice to see some enthusiasm”! It was hilarious!! ;) I still can’t believe I had the most points, I keep wondering how well I would have done in the “hot seat”. After that we headed over to Sci-fi for lunch. It was fun, as usual. We both had burger and onion rings. Then we headed to Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster to finish out the day just in time before a really bad storm hit. I’ve never seen so much lightning and they even shut down the boat service it was so bad. Once we got back to the Swan we were stuck in our room for a couple of hours while it came a FLOOD! We were wondering if we were even going to make it to E-night, but luckily it died down to a sprinkle and we got to go. It rained the whole night but we still had fun. We did Space Mountain, Buzz, Alien Encounter, Haunted Mansion, Thunder Mountain, and then decided to go to Ohana for dinner because we were starving and soaked! Dinner was great as usual; the wontons and wings are still my favorite. ;) After dinner we took the bus back to the Swan via DTD which was awful! It took forever and we regretted not driving.

Day Three:

We went back to MK because dh wanted to do the Hall of Presidents. We did some shopping for the kids on Main Street and then had lunch at the Plaza Restaurant. It’s always so nice to eat there, dh had the steak sandwich and I had the tuna. :) We topped it off with ice cream and then left the park because it was really crowded. (Saturday) We went back to the Swan and spent the rest of the afternoon at the quiet pool just relaxing and swimming. It was so nice and not crowded at all like the big theme pool. Luckily the rain held off until about 4:00 pm, which was perfect timing. We went back to the room to change and then had our anniversary dinner at Palio. The whole meal was fantastic. They brought us free champagne, which really surprised us, and also free dessert. For dinner we both had the lobster tortellini which was wonderful as usual. The strolling violinist came by our table and played for us, the whole meal was very romantic, and delicious. :) After dinner we changed back into our shorts and went to Epcot for Illuminations. We had a great spot near the International Gateway and it wasn’t very crowded at all. We finished off the night at the Boardwalk playing games and enjoying the atmosphere. It was a great night and a great trip! :) We were really happy at the Swan, and it was nice to take a trip without our kids. If anyone has questions about the Swan or any of the restaurants we visited (Nine Dragons, ESPN Club, Sci-fi, Ohana, Plaza Restaurant, Palio) or questions about Atlantic Dance, Kimonos, e-night, Mission Space, etc….. please feel free to ask.

I had a hard time posting that report. It kept telling me I had too many smilies?? Is there a limit???

Glad you had a wonderful time.Great trip report.
I think the limit for smiles is 8,but am not for sure

Welcome Back

Thanks so much for posting. I really enjoyed your trip report. Happy Anniversary, sounds like you enjoyed yourself. I'm glad to hear you were pleased with the Swan. We are trying it for the first time in November and love hearing all the positive reviews. We have a great AP rate at the Swan before switching to the Poly. I can't wait to try the Heavenly Beds. ;)

Wonderful trip report ~ Thanx for sharing!!!!!

Hi - Thanks for the great trip report. We are trying the Swan for the first time in November. We can hardly wait to try those heavenly beds that we keep reading about. I am glad to read another thumbs up about the SWAN. PS Happy Anniversay and glad you had a magical time.

No, we really didn't miss the YC at all. In fact, with all the rain it was nice to have the covered walkway all the way to the boat. At the YC you just have to get wet! ;) Also I think the BW area is a closer walk from the Swan than it is from the YC... or at least it seemed that way to me. I still can't believe how much cheaper it was to stay at the Swan. We will definitely stay there again! :)

Great reviews; thank you for sharing! Sounds like a magical anniversary trip! Happy Anniversary!

Debbie

Wow great trip report. Thanks for sharing. We just got back from the swan too. But unlike you we had to take our kids. Oh well. I compare the swan to the yacht club and the dolphin is like the beach club. My two questions are: did you see the german stars of the das duel aka like american idol show. Were they doing any filming then? And what is the dress code for palios. We walked by and it smelled so good. after I heard about the violin players I think we will definetely put it on the list for the next time and send the kids to the dolphin to eat.

Actually, we didn't even know what that stage was for until we got home and read about it here on the DIS! ;)

Palio is resort casual. You'll see families with kids, and also couples dining. They gave us a nice table in the corner away from the noise, since it was our anniversary. But there were quite a few kids in the restaurant and nobody was really dressed up. The violinist was very busy plaing requests of Beauty and the Beast and When you Wish upon a Star! ;) The food is so wonderful. They bring a selection of bread with olive oil and roasted garlic. :p We also ordered appetizers, and they were delicious. I can't say enough about the food quality there.

thanks for posting - we stayed at the swan on our last trip and thought it was great, especially the beds and pillows. when we got home, I went out and bought me one of those deluxe hotel pillows!

Thanks for the report. I would love to, one day, do a without kids trip. Maybe in about 15 years.
