Got back yesterday evening, so heres the low-down -

Lows -

The weather was awful - freezing fog on Sunday, Freezing and raining on Monday, warmer with some lovely sun on Tuesday, and pouring rain all day yesterday.

Ride wait times - these were wildly inaccurate in our experience this week ie RC racer said 5 minutes, actual wait time 25 mins, BTM 15 minutes, actual wait 35 mins etc. It meant we couldn't really plan to be anywhere at a specific time, and we missed the Princess Promenade and Stitch Live show on 2 separate days because of it. :sad2: Also, FP machines were not being used at BTM and ToT on Tuesday, and at one point on Tuesday the regular line for BTM was showing 90 minutes! Several rides went to temporary close too while we were there, Parachute Drop, Peter Pan, POTC, BTM. It wasn't quiet this week, even in the last hour of the Studios, there were ride times posted like 60 mins for the Rat, 45-60 mins for Crush, 20mins for Parachutes and 25 for ToT.

Slow counter service - oh dear. We had great fairly fast service at Cafe Hyperion (not my fave place but at least it has a large indoor capacity for seating) but Colonel Hathis was ridiculous - it was 3.30pm, Hakuna Matata and Fuente were both closed, and in Colonel Hathis there was only one (trainee) cashier serving. I waited 25 minutes to order, and when we left the restaurant another half hour later there was still only the one same cashier serving, and the queue of guests was out the main door. :sad2:

Dreams! of Christmas - my initial reaction, which has stayed with me, is what on earth have they done to my Dreams!??? I was so underwhelmed with it I felt like leaving halfway through, but I stuck it out til the end - it didn't improve. Saw it the once, have no wish whatsoever to see it again.

Highs -

Hotel New York :goodvibes - loved loved loved! From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we had nothing but attentive, friendly and helpful service, from the bellboys, the reception, baggagerie, gift shop and concierge staff, and the restaurant staff. Our room was on 2nd floor in Gramercy, we could see Space Mountain out of the left window. The room was clean, very comfortable, and cleaned thoroughly every day when we returned from the parks.

Christmas parade - I didn't miss Magic On Parade at all, because this parade had Max, Tink, and Huey, Dewey and Louie in it pixiedust: ! Watching the last one of the day, at 4.45pm, on Main St with the snow falling and floodlit, was wonderful - and I got a ginormous hug from Tigger on his way past too, so that helped!

Ratatouille area and ride - this is absolutely gorgeous, wow wow wow. Just beautifully done. Love the ride too, very very cute. Unfortunately though, I've discovered 3D doesn't really agree with me straight after Tower of Terror lol.

Christmas decorations - I always love the main park decorated for Christmas, and this was no exception. Everything is covered in garlands and poinsettias, the tree is gorgeous, and castle twinkles away merrily at the top of Main St, and the decorations at the entrance on Main St train station are awesome.

Planet Hollywood - noisy and busy, but fabulous service, great food, and with the Groupon deal, great value too. I'm convinced our waiter is destined for the stage :thumbsup2

Rs transports - they were early meeting us both at CDG and our hotel, we paid shared price but didn't share at all, no problems at all and I'd certainly use them again.

okay bits -

characters - we met Mickey and Minnie in EMH with a 30-minute wait. The interaction was fabulous and our photos are great, but in such hideous weather I woudn't have wanted to drag young kids out every morning for 8am on the dot just so they can meet characters. We met Pluto in the studios in Toon Square with not much waiting, and there were random characters around in the main park - we saw Hatter and Alice, and Dee and Dum, plus Mr Smee. We also met King Louie at his spot near Hakuna Matata. The Frozen sisters line was never shorter than 3 hours the whole time we passed it, and the lines for all the other queue characters seemed long (Merida, Jack Skellington, Rapunzel). We did meet quite a few and we're glad we did with a Disney newbie, but I had intended queuing for Merida and Jack, but with the weather I just couldn't be bothered. :)

photopass plus - i think this is still glitchy. We bought it no problem at all in our hotel giftshop, registered it to our account fine, and it always worked well on POTC and ToT, and we had no problems with the official photographer at the Mickey and Minnie meet n greet. However, on BTM, a couple of times a different familly group would come up on our card, so the CM at the ride booth would have to delete and try again. And very oddly, a family group on Buzz Lazer ride appeared on our photopass plus account, when we hadn't even been anywhere near that part of the park yet! However, we have 21 photos on our account which are actually of us, and they are great photos, so I think photopass plus is worth it.

Impressions -

honestly? While Dreams! is still on the park programme I won't return to DLP during Christmas season again - Dreams! makes me cry, I adore it and watch it as many nights as I can manage usually. The Christmas version just left me completely unaffected.

Also, this time for the first time I was there with a non-Disney kid. It makes a difference, for us it meant we concentrated on the bigger rides and some of the shows only (and characters if there wasn't much of a wait to meet them). Non-Disney peeps don't tend to appreciate the relevance and beauty of the architecture, the lands, the props etc in the same way, although my DLP newbie loved all the Christmas decorations. She also loved the theme of the hotel and having meals in Planet Hollywood and Annettes (she's going to work there on roller skates when she leaves school, and my DD is going to be a Disney Princess/Pirate ride operator apparently).

We will of course be back at DLP, its still my happy place, but having seen both Swing into Spring and Christmas season this year, I'm going to try for Swing into Spring again, with my Disney Daughter.

Welcome home

I have to agree on Christmas Dreams - just not the same. I missed the lantern, "At last I see the light" Tangled section way more than I enjoyed the novelty of the Christmas change. Thumbs down.

Sounds like the queues and weather didn't hold you guys back too much all the same. Rain really changes things doesn't it but those arcades are a life saver. Thanks for sharing :goodvibes

Welcome back!

Sorry to hear about the weather, Christmas Dreams, and glitchy wait times.:sad1: But so nice to hear about your lovely time at the New York, the Christmas parade and Ratatouille! :) :)

I do love the Main Street ambiance at Christmas! So "Swing Into Spring" is a nice time to visit??

Here's to many happy returns with your Disney peeps!

Welcome back!!!

Sorry about the weather, I can understand how it makes a low for your holiday.

Would you tell more about EMH meet'n'greets?

there certainly were lots of people sheltering in the arcades and the walkways from Fantasyland down through Adventureland on Wednesday.

Welcome back!

Swing into Spring was wonderful, we had fantastic sunny warm weather in early April this year too, which just made all the Spring season colours pop even more, and of course the parks were open later too compared with xmas season.

Welcome back!!!

on Wednesday to be honest, the weather was so miserable that if I could have just stayed in our room reading until afternoon when we were collected to go to the airport, I would have!

To meet the characters in EMH, and have a chance of meeting more than one set, you do really need to be there at 8am, and not much later. Donald was at the boarding house so his line wasn't much shorter than Mickey and Minnie (and they do close the line when it gets too long in EMH). Goofy and Pluto outside Main St Motors was a bit quieter, and Chip n Dale up near Plaza Gardens was quiet, because they are kind of tucked out of the way, down the steps from the Plaza Gardens entrance and to the left of the Arcade as you come up Main St.

As the EMH rides are busier from 9am, in my opinion you have to use EMH to either meet characters or do rides, you don't really have the option to do both in one morning.

Welcome back, shame about the weather for your trip. You will need to book another to make up for it

Welcome back, Lots of highs there :cheer2:I love all the Christmas decs and the snow, just makes me smile now thinking about it :goodvibes

I haven't been and seen Christmas Dreams yet but from what a lot of people are saying I'm not missing much. I saw Frozen in one of the planes and yes it was good but it seems to have really taken over everything this year.

The Swing into Spring sounds really good so I look forward to that.

Welcome back - shame the weather was so bad. I enjoyed the Christmas version of Dreams! last year. Not see any videos of this years version to compaire it with yet.

I do think taking the characters out of the hotels is a huge mistake too, can't see many familys with small kids rushing to the park for EMH to meet them.

Some great highs !!
I love dreams too
I haven't herd anything good about the Christmas version.
I'm seeing both the spring and Christmas versions next year so will have a full view of it all then ;).
Hope you dried up and are all warm and cosy ready for christmas.

yes you'll be able to just pop by and see it won't you, you live so close to The Magic now :goodvibes.

yes compared to the hotel meet n greets the characters in EMH is a disappointment i think.

thanks Rachael, I'm now catching up with the christmas wrapping etc I haven't done yet :).

Thanks for posting your highs and lows, and welcome back :goodvibes

Really interesting about EMH and deciding between meeting characters and going on rides. I'm hoping we'll still get a decent amount done (with 10pm closing) if we choose to queue for characters.

Great about the Christmas parade too :thumbsup2

Aw Elaine, I am sorry the trip wasn't all good, but I honestly think when you have really bad weather, especially when it's wet and cold, that it can dampen your spirits and cast a shadow over things.

Glad you liked the hotel and had a good experience there :thumbsup2.

Funnily enough re Dreams, as you may recall, we went at Halloween and queued over an hour to get right to the front of the rope at the Castle (I know lots of people say further back is better, but we've seen it from here once before and thought it was the best view ever - in our opinion anyway - the lasers actually go right over your head and it's just magical). DH wasn't too impressed, but the look on DD2's face was just magical when it started, so it was worth it. The version we saw had Merida and Lion King in (so was tweaked from what we saw 2 years ago - the original Dreams) and we all loved it and thought it was so well done - our fave of the two versions we've seen. Shame the Christmas one wasn't so good - I think Disney think if they stick Frozen into something, it's bound to be a hit :sad2:.

We tried Colonel Haithis for the first time last trip and loved it - you get so much food and it was hot and tasty. I think we were lucky though - we never waited more than 15 mins for any CS food. But, it was sooo busy in the parks due to Halloween weekend, so I think for once, DLRP got it right and had extra staff and eateries open etc which really helped. We also tried to eat out of main meal times which had an effect I think.

Agree about the park being fabulous at Christmas though - it just looks beautiful especially as night falls and you have all the lighting etc. I think everyone has to go at that time at least once! :thumbsup2

shame and the weather but yay for all highs :wizard: and I agree you need to book another trip to make for all the lows ;)

thanks again everyone - there was one good thing about the freezing fog on Sunday - it made our first Tower of Terror ride of the trip amazingly spooky :thumbsup2!

Are the same characters there each morning? Is it possible to do all meets in one morning? I guess we'll have to go one morning for characters, the other for rides.

yes, same characters in the same locations each morning in EMH. I doubt you'd be able to do all the meets in one morning, last week they closed both the Mickey and Minnie line, and the Donald line, before 9am, as they were both so busy. We would have been able to meet the characters over 2 EMH mornings (starting at 8am) - one morning Mickey and Minnie and then Goofy and Pluto, the next morning Donald and then Chip and Dale.
