Just got back from our trip (May 3- 6). As part of the contest I won, we received passes to the openings for "Lights!Motors!Action!" at MGM and "Soarin" at EPCOT.
We sat out the MGM stuff- gave those passes to a DISer whose daughter was performing there, so that her family could see her perform. But we did go to the "Soarin" opening. It was AWESOME!!! I had debated whether to even go at all but am so glad we did! We were greeted at the park with small plates of appetizers and glasses of wine. After about a 20-30 minute wait while they waited for everyone to arrive, they finally got started. Patrick Warburton (Puddy from Seinfeld) introduced the new ride and there was a little scene where it was supposed to look like someone was flying above the clouds (easiest description I can give!). Then a plane flew over and dropped out some sky boarders who had colored smoke coming out of the boards. That was really cool. Then we were ushered into the area with The Lands, Living Seas, etc. There was a big California party going on, it was like a big block party that took place both indoors and out. Different food stations were set up throughout the area, and different types of intertainment. Free bar :cool1: (too bad I don't like alcohol, but it was great for those who do).
They had a special showing of Turtle Talk, which was great because my DS5 was the only child there in a room full of adults, so he got lots of Crush interaction :goodvibes . We got to ride Soarin, and let me just say it is absolutely incredible!!!
We saw lots of celebrities such as: Ashanti, Joey Fatone of NSYNC, Gabrielle Union from 'Bring It On'- she was so incredibly gorgeous!!!, Essence Atkins from 'Smart Guy' and 'Half and Half', Gloria Estefan, Alfonso Ribeiro from 'Fresh Prince of Bel Air', Daphne Zuniga of 'Melrose Place', Alan Cummings, Bare Naked Ladies (they were performing). I'm sure there were many others there that we did NOT see! Nobody was bothering the celebs, so that was nice to see.
Just wanted to share with everyone, it was definitely a once in a lifetime experience!!!

That is so awesome!!! What a great experience. Thanks for sharing. :cool1:

J&Ns Mom-
I emailed Mary Jo earlier but haven't heard back from her yet. I was hoping she was able to make use of the passes (I was kind of worried about how closely they might be inspected ;) ) and get to see Kate perform. We received a wonderful gift from her and her family as thanks.
I, too, loved the smells and breezes during the ride. I was afraid I was going to be sick when the lift first went up at the beginning- I am afraid of heights and have very bad motion sickness. But the experience was definitely worth it!
All in all we had a great trip. The only bad thing- and it wasn't really a bad thing, just a mortifyingly embarassing thing- was that while my family was on the Star Wars ride at MGM, I was standing around watching the Landscaping Band that had pulled up. I was so engrossed in watching the musicians  that I didn't notice the band's 'manager' walking near me. He ended up pulling me up to play the cowbell with the band. I've never been so embarassed in my life. I have no rhythm what-so-ever, so trying to play that and dance in front of tons of people was awful :rotfl2: .

That IS a memory for a lifetime! Glad you had a great time! :goodvibes

Wow! That's really cool. Barenaked Ladies in WDW? I would have thought I died & went to Heaven! :cloud9: One of my Favorite Bands in My Favorite Place! :cloud9: :cloud9:
