Talk about impulse buying, talked, toured, bought and closed! All in 3 hours, no homework, and no research just did it for the family.

We have been visiting Disneyworld for about 3 to 4 times per year, but we wanted to try something a bit better that the value resorts.

The Kids and the wife are very exited, I am......scare. Did we do the right thing? I still have 6 days to back out.

Its just like buying a used car, but that will last us much longer right?

Becoming a member is the right thing in my opinion, especially if you go that often like we do. You are going to love the deluxes, I stayed there the first time and will never stay lower now, that is why we have bought 3 contracts already.

If you have crunched the numbers (both initial buy-in cost and recurring annual dues) and feel comfortable with that, then DVC can provide you with a hedge against rising deluxe accomodations pricing. We bought in last year for 2 reasons - (1) we are Disney fanatics and want to start going more often than once per year and were looking for a way to save some money each trip & (2) we wanted larger accomodations, particularly as our kids grow older.

We had already moved up to the moderate resorts years ago and were contemplating moving up to deluxes but felt our money would be better spent at DVC than paying cash rates.

It was one of the best decisions we ever made and we just recently doubled our points this past October with an add-on to guarantee us more "Mickey time" each year. Plus once we stayed in 1 and 2BR units we knew we could never go back to a studio (or hotel room for that matter). The extra points allow us to stay in larger accomodations each trip.

I think it you are going as often as you mentioned and you are looking for deluxe accomodations then DVC may be a good fit for you. It is a luxury and needs to be seen as just that, not an investment that will appreciate. Keep in mind the annual dues (which will rise around 4% each year) and that DVC is for accomodations only. You still have to pay for food, tickets, etc.

It is basically pre-paying for your accomodations for the next 35-50 years at a deluxe resort using today's prices. If that appeals to you, you are commited to using it primarily for DVC resort stays and you can swing it financially then I say go for it.

When we bought back in 2004 we didn't research anything either. Other than the information from the tour and knowing we could afford it, we just jumped right in (I think we slept on it). We didn't even join this forum until last summer. You'll find a lot of information here. Sounds like you were committed to Disney vacations anyway so relax and enjoy it!

I think more than 1 night at ASMU with the whole family would drive my Dh to impulsive purchases also!

You go often, you live near by. You want to be comfortable when you go.

I think buying a car is a very good analogy for DVC. When you buy a car, you pay for the car, but you still have to pay to operate and maintain that car. You pay insurance, gas, service, registration fees, property tax (in some states) etc. Your car is never really "Paid Off"

The BIG difference is a car will not last you 50 years. Your grandkids will most likely not enjoy the car even if it did last

Thank you all. I know we can use it, we now have the time relax. Just booked 3 nights and told the family no parks!!!! Lets just enjoy the resort.

For ANY other timeshare, I would say rescind and check out resales--you can get a much better value. However, with DVC, the prices are not that much different and IMHO the sales presentation is accurate and a fair portrayal of what you get. The system is SUPER easy to use. I LOVE IT!!
Now, if you are talking dollars and cents---one thing to keep in mind is that the DVC point values for weekend stays are high (double)--so, since you are in Tampa, if most of your trips would be Fri/SAt, you could save $$ by staying at a moderate instead of buying DVC points. But, if you are also staying weekdays, then it evens out a bit. And if you can cut off one of the weekend days, then it becomes very cost-effective.

OK--the BEST part of DVC for us is the community halls (CH). My kids 7,7 10 LOVE them. THey have activities a few times a day--BUT, you can go in anytime from 8-8 and "hang out." THey have coloring, games, movies playing, fuse ball, PS2 stations, etc. My kids have done ceramics, painting, bracelet making, etc. It's also fun to bring or rent bikes. Ft W and BCV have campfires and movies. In summer, SSR also has pool movies. have fun! Elaine
