Since we have Traveler Miles which doesn't honor Spirit or Southwest, I jumped on Northwest's cheaper fares today.

I booked 3 nonstop tickets from DTW to MCO for Feb 9 - 19 for DH, DS and DD. With our Traveler Miles certificates ($100 off for every 8000 points used), it cost me 48,000 of our 78,000 points. So I used 6 $100 certificates. That left me with a balance to pay of $197.

For my ticket, I used some remaining Worldperks miles. For that same flight, it cost me 37,500 WP points.

So, I guess $197 total for 4 RT tickets DTW-MCO isn't too bad : )

Now I just need to find a good rental car rate!

Deb~

What are Traveler Miles certificates? I'm so bummed out~ checking fares from Green Bay to Orlando and going thru either MSP or DTW---no discounted fares for me! :(

What a joke some of the airfares are! I just checked nwa.com for Feb 19-26 from Albany NY to MCO and got...get this...$900.39...for ONE ticket!!!

Are they off their rocker or what? Who, in their right mind, would pay that? I could drive the round trip for less than a third of that...not that I want to, lol.

I am afraid I may be SOL for any decent tix!

Hi Nancy,

Traveler miles are actually the miles we earn from our credit card. Go to travelermiles.com for all the info.

We ended up switching from our NW Worldperks program to this one because the points can be used for a number of things, including certificates for airfare from most major carriers.

Since my husband and I use the same credit card, it's pretty easy to rack up enough points to get some good deals on our airfares.

Hope that helps!

Hi Deb~

Thanks for that info......I'm going to check out that website right now. We also used to have the NW cc and cancelled it. Right now I'm using the Disney Visa, which is ok, but I don't need the deals on the resorts, since we own DVC. I would rather get miles. BTW, we used to live in Rochester Hills! I really miss the area.

Thanks again,
Nancy :earsgirl:

Nancy,

We own at DVC also...at BCV! We've really found Traveler Miles to be a great deal for us because we only need the airfare as well. I also cancelled my NW card because it just didn't seem as easy to get standard fares as it once was.

Definitely check into the Traveler Miles...it's really helped us with our airfares to Orlando every year!

Glad to help a former "Michigander" :sunny:

Can't you fly Midwest Airlines out of Millwauke? They seem to offer some decent fares at times....

The flight times are insane.....we wouldn't get to Orlando til 10pm at night. If I go out on Delta/Comair, we lv GB at 5:30 am and are on the Emerald Aisle picking up our rental by 11:15am!!

disney4me4ever--did you try NWA out of Milwaukee? I believe they do run nonstop flights to MCO? Just a thought..not sure what fares are but its worth a try??!!

Good luck!

Hi~

I hadn't thought of flying out of Milw. because it's 2 hours away. But I should/will price the airfare. Was talking to a friend today who did exactly that; got a great fare out of Milwaukee.

Thanks,
Nancy :earsgirl:
