gave my ten year old dd keys to the house, so that if she comes home from school and no one is home she doesn't have to go to a neighbor's house to wait for her grandma or her aunt to get home.

can you tell that I'm nervous that she might actually have to use them? not that she'd be alone for more than 20 minutes or so, but still...

We'll never get over worrying about them will we? I'm sure she'll be very responsible if she needs to use them. It's hard letting go. Take a deep breath and get yourself a cup of tea (that usually helps me). :)

Well hopefully she won't do what my dd did - she used them as a prop that was needed for a class play and happened to need them that day and they were - you guessed it - still at school!!!! We have a keypad garage opener that she uses but it isn't always reliable so we gave her a key so that she could get in if the garage door thing didn't work - well that day the garage thing didn't work and her key was at school - I COULD HAVE CROWNED HER!!!!!

And you are right - we never stop worrying about them. I make my dd call me everyday after she gets home from school. That way I know she got in the house and she is safe and sound. And she's 13.

my older dd is 12, and I didn't give her keys to the house until this year. can you tell I'm a nervous mom?
