off and on over the past few years since we moved here, we get collection calls for the people who used to have our phone number (not lived in our house, but who had our phone number prior to us). I will tell the agencies that call that we are not them, don't know them, have never been them, etc, and eventually they stop.

I googled their names last night and OMG, the husband in this couple murdered his wife! about a year before we moved here, he murdered her.

at least now I know why they aren't paying their bills.

and now I am totally creeped out

would it bother you? would you consider changing your number? the only reason it even crossed my mind is that the husband, according to the reports I found on line, was declared insane and apparently had a long history of mental issues. and for some reason I hate that this man has, or could have, any connection to my family.

That is creepy but it wouldn't so much bother me about the phone number as long as he didn't murder her in my house. Then I would want to move!!

If it bugs you, why not change the phone number? It's easy to do and you wouldn't have to deal with his collection calls anymore.

We used to get them for the person who had our phone number before us. It was very annoying.

I'm assuming you aren't also living in his old house? I get collection calls all the time for the former owner of my cell phone numnber. I suggest asking them to remove you from their list. I should, but haven't, keep a list of the agencies calling you and if they are still calling file a report with the attorney general for your state.

I would change my number in a nano second. I am like you, it creeps me out, even thought you aren't in the house, it was his number. OMG, you have the same phone number as a murderer. Sorry, not trying to make things worse, but I understand where you are coming from.

I wouldn't bother to change my number. You've had that number for years, so the collections are probably getting to the end of their lives anyhow.

At least you have a good story to tell the collection agencies!

We have the same problem. We've had the number for almost 3 years now and still get calls for the deadbeat who had it before us. Even worse, she CONTINUES to give it out to people she doesn't plan on paying.

We live on 68 Sycamore Street.(not really..just sayin')..and there is a 68 SOUTH Sycamore Street in our neighborhood as well.
We CONSTANTLY get calls from collections for the people who live at South Sycamore. Apparently they are having trouble paying their bills. Also, it doesn't help that my husband has the same first name as the man at South Sycamore. It's to the point where I don't answer my phone if I don't know who it is. When I do, it's for these people. I tell them what the situation is, and the agencies are usually apologetic, and thankful for the information that they are calling the wrong number and have the wrong address. It will be okay for a couple of weeks..and then the calls start up again.:headache: I'm seriously thinking of changing our phone number at this point.

Is this a landline? If so, I would change it because the husband may still be using it.

I use my cell as my main number so my landline means nothing to me.

I would. I kept getting call from an agency too and what sucked is most of the calls now days is not from a real person and it would say push here if you want to pay and I would try to get a real person but it would take forever so I would get annoyed. We changed services and had to change our number and it was the best thing ever.

I would be creeped out too and I would change it

I would be changing it since a someone who has committed murder would know my phone number. Yes, creepy. That's me though.

I do the exact opposite. My cell phone is my "make or receive and emergency calls to and from my family" phone, my landline is the number everyone else calls. That's what happens when you work odd hours and sleep odd hours. I tell folks to call my landline anytime, if I am asleep I turn off the ringer and turn down the volume on the answering machine, if I am awake I screen the calls through the answering machine. Caller ID is useless anymore since so many people and companies block their ID.

As for the credit calls, I'd embellish the truth if a creditor calls for this guy again. Tell him the truth...the guy is in prison for murder of his wife....but add...his wife the debt collector.:thumbsup2

I normally don't scare that easily, but I would change it for two reasons..

#1 - This murderer, who has been declared insane - and anyone who has ever been associated with him - can get your address by doing a reverse look-up of the phone number - even though you don't live in the house he lived in.. That's the part that is unsettling to me.. Is there any real danger? Who knows - but it's not a chance I would be willing to take..

#2 - You can tell credit collection agencies from now until you die of old age that they have the wrong number and they will continue to call.. You might notice the calls will stop for a period of time, but then they will start up all over again when the "old" collection agency sells the account to a "new" collection agency.. It's a viscious cycle that will never, ever end..

Invest in your safety and preserving your sanity by having the # changed ASAP..

Good luck! :goodvibes

This is very true. I have the same issue. The phone number i got when I moved to Florida previously belonged to a family of deadbeats. It started out with constant calls from collection agencies. I would tell them they had the wrong number. Eventually, the calls really slowed down. After awhile, they picked up. Again, I told them about the number change. The calls died down. Now, they have started again. If my number wasn't also associated with my business, I'd change it in a heartbeat.

Changing the number is just putting this off onto someone else. I know I wouldn't be comfortable with it.

IF I ever answered such a call, I would tell them to google the names...

WE have this problem to:sick:

Well, we once looked at a lovely old Victorian that was empty because the estranged husband had come home and killed his wife then killed himself while the kids were upstairs! The house needed a LOT of work and the grandparents weren't willing to come down any, so even though it was a really lovely home and we adored it, we didn't even bother putting in an offer (last I heard it was STILL empty after several years on the market).

Several people told us how fortunate it was we hadn't bought a house that creepy. . .but then, the colonial we bought (built late 18th century) which the former owner said was NOT haunted was most definitely, actively haunted! :headache:

You just never know with those kinds of things. If it's too big a headache with the creditors, I'd change it, but otherwise, no. Who knows what number you might get next!
