I am looking to have a welcoming party for my guest. we are not having a disney wedding so i do not have an EM. We are having our wedding across from the Poly at shades of green which is a military resort and does not fall under disney. I have heard of people having a welcome party at sunset pointe at the poly but now that im looking i can't find it. we are gonna have about 35 people. I was hoping somewhere like sunset pointe because then everyone doesnt need admission to the park and we can watch the fireworks. We are looking something maybe desserts and stuff nothing big and crazy. Any ideas??

Thank You

I'm not sure on what Disney's policies are on having a party like yours, but I did want to give you a heads-up and let you know that Disney only allows 10 people to use Sunset Pointe for weddings/receptions, so if you're going to have 35 at your party, that site is probably not going to be available to you.

Yeah I really wanted to do that but unfortunately the Poly no longer has a catering facility so it does not do private functions. A great option is the summerhouse. It is a nice area by the pool and the beach at the Grand Floridian resort- they rope it off for you. the Grand floridian Marina is also a great option and there is a nice view of wishes(at the right time of course). The best thing to do is contact the GF private dining. Another nice option is the beach/shipwreck beach at the yact club in which you would contact Yacht club catering. Good Luck.

Thank you so much star and mary im defintily gonna go look into the GF monday morning.

Thanks again

I looked into hosting a small, private party at the Polynesian Resort two years ago. I was told that it was no longer possible. (I should note that I had seen photos of outdoor parties for quite a large gathering of people so it had been possible in the past.) That is when I began planning my outdoor party at the Grand Floridian. In order to use the Summerhouse area, I had to work with the resort's Convention Services organization.

We did a wishes dessert welcome party at the GF marina. It was only 11 of us, but there was plenty of room for more. We had a view of wishes, a butler, and private tables set up. We did a cheese tray, a dessert tray, coffee, tea, coco, sodas, and water, and cindy's slipper for the centerpiece. It was wonderful. We booked it through GF's private dinning.

Tell me more about the summer house?

My family hosted a private dinner party at the Grand Floridian's Summerhouse several months before our Fairy Tale Weddings custom vow renewal. The party was planned for us by the Grand Floridian's Convention Services organization. It was a wonderful party, and I wrote about the planning of it (as well as the actual party itself) in a trip report: click here.

In my trip report are lots of links to various photos of the Summerhouse venue, but if you click here, you can view one of my on-line albums. I apologize that the photos have been rearranged by Yahoo (arg!) and are no longer quite in order.
