Welcome Home Wednesdays - Are they worth it?

In a little over a week, we are going home for over a week. Our last few trips were extended weekends, so we were never at WDW over a Wednesday. This time, we could attend one of the Welcome Home Wednesday events at 4pm at Atlantic Dance Hall. Are they worth attending? Did you have fun? Did you learn anything? Any "deals".

Going on the 20th will go.

We got there at the end of the event in July 2005, and I wish we had been there for the entire thing. We did get a little goodie bag, which included a light up/flashing DVC pin, and free admission into the clubs for the night. They had been giving away prizes to people who were there. There was free popcorn and cotton candy, and maybe something else, so even the kids would be happy. Just DH and I went, which was good to go to the clubs by ourselves. I am sure others had fun meeting other DVCers, but we didn't get there early enough to socialize.

I'm sure others can respond with more information.

BUMP!

From what I've read elsewhere, I don't think it would be more fun than the parks as far as my family is concerned. But is it worth it to go if you're solo and a bit of a DVC nut?

Also, another old post pegged these at about 45 minutes. Is that still the case? I arrive around 12:45 on the 14th and will need to set up for the conference in the early evening, so I thought the Welcome Home Wednesday might make a nice filler that day. But then again, so would a few hours at MGM or Epcot so I'm torn.

I am in the minority, I expect, but I did not think it was worthwhile. Rather do other things, even if that is just reading a book near the pool. I learn everything I need to know right here on the DIS boards.

just a clarification:
that was the DVC Summer Block Party at PI (which they haven't yet announced for this year).
definately agree, the block party was AWEESOME! (we went in summers of 2005 & 2006)
however, the "welcome wednesdays" at ADH were booooooring IMHO. it's
almost an hour of sitting & trivia (the lemonade was good :thumbsup2 ), which just isn't our idea of a "fun thing to do on vacation" ;) ~ we would rather spend the time walking around the BW, taking a dip, or meandering around WS :cool1: ).
maybe stop in if you have the time (some ppl do like it) ~ you can leave at any time.

I have never one say they were really thrilled with the WHW, but I think it would be neat to go to one of them.

I have never been to it - and it might actually be neat to go see, but quite honestly I'd rather spend my time sitting and watching the animals at AKV. (lol) :)

We went last Oct-06. We were early and waited about an hour with 30 other people to get in. No one ever showed up. We went down to the models on the boardwalk and ask them what was up. They said it was cancelled for that day. We were very disapointed that no one even bothered to be there to tell all the people that showed up. We will still try to go again when we go in May-07

We went during out last visit is October. It was just "okay" for us. Unless it has changed, it is set up to be played like Jeopardy with three contestants selected from the attendees. In my opinion it dragged on way too long and gets a little boring as it is really just a big commercial for DVC (duh...like we don't know anything about it already?). We did each get really nice DVC ballcaps and they served refreshments (lemonade, popcorn, etc). So my take on it is this: if you have some extra time and don't really have anything else planned, go. If it's a quick trip and your time would be spent better elsewhere, plan on catching it the next time around.

I agree! We went to the Welcome Home Wednesday in September. The Jeopardy game was amusing for about 10 minutes then it started to become painful. The contestants couldn't answer anything. When they gave an incorrect answer a member of the audience could answer. This whole interplay extended the game. The audience member got a small prize but the three clueless contestants got better prizes. I know it is all in fun, but my point is, it just was not all that fun. The gift on the way out was a nice DVC baseball cap, not that I wear one. My husband now has two. I would only go again if I had absolutely nothing to do and was in the area at the right time. Our update lasted about an hour. I enjoyed the previous ones at SSR much better. They were short and sweet. You might need to experience it for youself at least once. You may like it.

Just got back yesterday. The WHW was just as described above. Not too exciting, but I am now the proud owner of both a DVC baseball cap and an ice scraper. It fit my unusual needs of something to do that was within quick walking distance of the Y&BC Convention Center just in case I needed to get back there for work purposes. Wouldn't drag the kids and DH to it next time, however.
