Weiss and Kwan win National Championships

Michelle Kwan isn't my favorite of the American women (Sasha Cohen is) but Michael Weiss is by far my favorite of the American men and has been for a while now (and he's from Virginia )

I feel the same about Michelle and Sasha, but I like Sarah Hughes, too. Wasn't it weird that so many skaters fell or hit the wall? I didn't see it, but I heard that a woman hit the wall and needed stiches in her leg!

I didn't see that either, but I heard several of the men hit the wall (I was asleep at 7 last night and got up at 2:30 this morning.)

I really wanted to like Sasha Cohen -- her parents are Cohens from the Ukraine, my grandparents were Cohens from the Ukraine, so we're practically related. but the impression I got during the interviews at the Olympics left me feeling she was an Ice Princess -- and that had nothing to do with skating.

I really like Sarah Hughes -- she's so warm and real, and a hometown hero to those of us on Long Island. she had a really rough year, and I'm glad she finished high enough to go on to World.

my dd's prefer Michelle Kwan. she's flawless, except in the Olympics. strange how that happened.

I didn't see the competition last night, but it must have been something wweird. maybe the full moon?

BriarRose, Sasha is very spirited which is why I like her. I like Sarah Hughes, too. I'm just not all that fond of Michelle Kwan.

Michelle Kwan is my absolute favorite female skater of all time. So I'm thrilled to hear she won the Nationals. Sure hope she stays ametuer so she can go back to the Olympics and win the Gold. Was this already televised, HW, and if not, do you know when it will be? I'm so behind on my figure skating, I used to follow it pretty closely before I had kids. But now I only watch when I happen to catch it on.

I like Michael Weiss too. He's another one who has worked very hard, I'm so glad he won! (and what a cutie he is! He's local to this area, too. )

Snoopy the finals were on tv yesterday, but this afternoon at 4pm eastern on ABC is the exhibition show they do at the end of the competition .. I'm hoping they also might show Michelle's skate since they said it was near flawless (I fell asleep while watching last night ) ...

Snoopy, it was televised yesterday but their exhibitions will be televised at 4 this afternoon. Michael Weiss is GORGEOUS, although my mom disagrees with me on that one. I have a major crush on him.

I thought Michelle Kwan did a great job last night and I was happy she won. I also like Sara Hughes and I think Sasha Cohen has great talent, but she is not my favorite.

Oh, boo hoo, I was home last night too! I need to start looking in the TV guide.

I'll be sure to watch the Exhibitions today though, I always love those. Its nice to see the skaters when the pressure is off.

You know, I was going to post a reminder about Nationals being televised, but I thought I might be becoming a pest with the figure skating stuff. Too bad some of you missed it. I have not seen Michelle Kwan skate like that since Nationals in 1998. She was awesome! Sasha is absolutely gorgeous and her skating matches her beauty....she just can't seem to put together a clean program. And Sarah skated clean, but Michelle was downright fabulous. She also had a perfect short program and her short program outfit was a really cool Vera Wang design.

And Honeywolf7....we'll need to talk about this at Worlds....what is not to like about Michelle!!!

And Briar Rose...I had the same first impression of Sasha. I've seen a couple of things about her since that have me changing my mind about her.

The Men's competition was a splatfest....Michael Weiss spoke of the bad vibes in the building. Johnny Weir had BIG problems. He crashed into the boards and STOPPED SKATING. And they started his music over!!!! And then Dick Button had a bit of a hissy fit, which is ALWAYS fun!! He was extremely dismayed that they let him start over. He said....are we going to call this a SPORT or ENTERTAINMENT?? If it's sport, then if there is a problem like that and you STOP, then you are OUT. Johnny then fell again, stopped, the music was stopped and he withdrew. He blew a great chance. He was in 2nd after the short. 2 or 3 skaters later, Ryan Jahnke ALSO hit the boards, and the strap at the ankle of his pants broke. They stopped HIS music and he was permitted to pick up where he left off too. Dick was pissed!! He thought they should all be well aware that the BOARDS ARE THERE!!

I don't usually watch exhibition skating, but I will be tuning in this afternoon on the chance that they will re-play Michelle's 2 awesome skates!! Incidentally, she garnered another 6.0 for presentation last night. That brings her total to 28 6.0's at Nationals. Her nearest competitor ( I forget who....maybe Brian Boitano) has only 9.

Dkurz, it's not her skating that I don't like....I just don't like what I've seen of her in interviews.

Jahnke didn't hit the boards. He skated great and got 3rd place overall and is on the World Team.
Matt Savoie hit the boards and then had to tear off his boot strap. He finished 5th.

d.kurz, please do post reminders! You won't be a pest, I sure wish you had of last night. I watched Tarzan and Jane with my kids for the bazillionth time last night, would have loved to have seen the Nationals.

HW, I can go along with John Zimmerman and Steven Cousins being hotties, but I can't see why you would get a bad impression of Michelle Kwan from interviews. She always has such composure and class, even in her worst disappointment, every time I have ever seen her. Which is part of the reason why I like her so much.

Who is watching the Exhibition now? I really like this Ryan Janke kid, he was terrific. Loved that Boitano lutz he did, I love that move.

Michelle comes across as a little arrogant to me (but that may just be me.) I watched the exhibitions (and wished that Michael Weiss would just go ahead and take off the vest ) One of the other female skaters that impresses me is Anne Patrice McDonough.

d. kurz, was Michelle amazing in that Field of Golds performance? {{{sigh...}}}, she is sooooo elegant.

DH is in love with her too.

And what about Michael Weiss' spiral on his heels? All I can say to that is WOW!

I am soooooooo jealous that you are going to Worlds! If I had an extra $1000 I'd have to join you.

Wow, Honeywolfe, I feel just the opposite. Michelle seems so down to earth to me.

Sasha Cohen, on the other hand, seems a bit arrogant to me. I do hope its just her age and not knowing any better, not poor sportsmanship.
