INDIAN RIVER COUNTY Officials believe a man who previously has approached women on the beach while naked may have struck again Sunday.
However, he may be getting more aggressive, according to sheriff's Sgt. Rick Vidiri.
Two separate incidents were reported Sunday of a man wearing only a hat approaching women while they were walking on the beach.
The first incident happened about 9 a.m. near the Grand Harbor Beach Club south of County Road 510, according to a Sheriff's Office report. A woman told deputies the naked man approached her, but she ran away before he got close enough to touch her.
That wasn't the case a few hours later.
Another woman called 911 from her cell phone after she said a naked man came up to her while she was walking on the beach just north of Round Island Park, grabbed her and tried to take her in his arms, Vidiri said.
She quickly broke away from his grasp and ran back to the public beach area.
Authorities believe the man in both incidents could be the same person, as both women described the man they saw as being white, between 35 and 45 years old, around 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a thin build and only wearing some sort of hat.
Detectives were in the process this morning of compiling a sketch of the man to release to the public.
The Sheriff's Office has reports of similar incidents dating back nearly a year. However, Sunday was the first time anyone has reported being accosted by a naked man on the beach.
Deputies haven't been able to catch the man. However, based on the description given Sunday and other descriptions reported throughout the year, they believe the same person could be committing the indecent acts.
Anyone with information about the man or the incidents can call sheriff's Detective Nancy McNally at 978-6100 or Treasure Coast CrimeStoppers at (800) 273-TIPS (8477).
Callers can stay anonymous. Information could be worth up to a $1,000 reward.
