Weird POFQ question...?

I have an odd question, and I couldn't find where it had been asked before. I know all you experienced DISers can help, and it's okay to point and laugh if it's a dumb question! :goodvibes

Here's a little backstory first... One of my (very few) pet peeves about Disney is the way some of the lines are queued. For example, you can be early at Turtle Talk or Haunted Mansion, but then, everybody gets smushed together when the doors are opened. If you're not a rude or pushy person, you can find your self getting mobbed and passed from every side. Not a big deal, but it gets my blood pressure up to get surrounded by all that pushiness and non-Disney attitude in some queues.

Now, to the question...finally. :rotfl: We have only stayed in value resorts before, where the bus queues are clearly chained off. But in all the pictures I have seen for POFQ, it doesn't look like there are queues for the buses. Did I miss them? Or is it because the lines just don't get bad at this resort, or does the laid back atmosphere keep the pushy people calmed down? :lmao:

I know it seems petty, but I'm one of those non-confrontational people who gets quickly mobbed when the queues aren't clear. Weird, eh?

Thanks for the help,
June

Hi! The bus stop at POFQ has seats and you just kind of sit there until the bus comes. It is usually the first stop, so there will be plenty of seats on the bus. But, you're right.... everyone just gets up when the bus they want comes up and goes to get on. I liked being able to sit and wait for the bus as opposed to standing in the sun waiting...but to each there on... have a magical trip!

Thanks for the reply -- that was a big help. The time that we're going is supposed to be hot but not terribly crowded, so that was a good point about waiting out of the sun. That makes me feel much better about this resort.

Thanks for the hand with our vacation! :thumbsup2

We are also staying at POFQ and i am right with you. I had already asked this before and this was one of my concerns. However, with a small resort, and the fact that we try to go early each morning, i am trying not to worry myself too much. Have fun and enjoy.

POFQ is our Fav Mod and you won't have any problems with the buses .

I do agree Disney had Line movement down to a science and now they seem to be getting away with it on some attractions. They also seem to be the ones that take the longest to Queue in the first place.

We stayed at CBR on our last trip(6-2007) and the bus stops are set up the same. We never had a problem with getting on a bus maybe a small child would bounce in front but quickly gathered by the parents.

Will be visiting POFQ 6/5-6/13 2009:banana:

My sister and her family stayed there in June 2008 for their very first trip ever and said POFQ is lovely.

We were there earlier this month and the biggest problem with the buses is how long it takes to get anywhere. Everytime we were picked up we also went to every POR stop too. Sometimes the bus would already be full and we'd still go get more so they could stand :confused3. I wasn't thrilled with the buses at POFQ and I hope the rest of you have better luck!

We've stayed at POFQ several times - going back in 19 days:yay:

We have always been the first stop and sometimes in the morning there is a crowd but we never had to wait for another bus.

I guess we have also been lucky, very rarely have we gone on to pick up at POR. Usually, it has been directly to the parks. We think that POFQ is the most conveniently located resorts. MK, EP and DHS are very close.

You will love it.

I've stayed at value, moderate, and (once) at a deluxe, so I've experienced all the bus stops. And the moderate and deluxe beat out value. There just doesn't seem to be as many people waiting at any given time. And it is nice to be able to sit in shade for the wait instead of a line in the sun or maybe rain.

I travel with my mother who is 78 years old and the main reason I am staying at POR this upcoming trip and not a value is so she doesn't have to stand in a line for the bus. There will be enough lines in the parks!

If you are really concerned about getting pushed aside, when you arrive at the bus stop, just stand by the curb around where the bus will stop so you can be one of the first ones in (hopefully). Although I must admit when the bus pulls up there may be people who run for the doors. Unfortunately there are rude people in Disney World too. I'm one of those non aggressive people who gets shoved to the side too, so I know how you feel. Good Luck:cool1::cool1::cool1:

If you stay at FQ, it is the first stop so there will be plenty of seats. Like PP said, it is a small resort, but you do have to go to all the stops at Riverside. It is not a big deal, no different than staying at a large resort where you would have to many stops there. I went in August, and we had no problems at all. I also agree that when staying at Moderates and Delux's, there are not nearly as many people as the values.

We have stayed at POFQ our last 3 visits and out of those three visits, we only went once to POR to do a pick up . . .

The bus stop at POFQ is broken down to A and B areas. Since it is a smaller resort, we always had a seat . . .it is very orderly. The wait time is between 15 - 20 minutes for each bus . . .

POFQ is a great resort! You will love it!

From one non-confrontational person to another...you shouldn't have a problem getting a seat on the bus at POFQ ;) I've stayed at POFQ several times (it's my favorite resort!) and as PPs have pointed out, the bus stops at POFQ and there is rarely a large crowd. Some people do choose to stand while others make use of the benches but I've never experienced or witnessed any pushing or shoving.

Another plus is that there is one MK bus for POFQ and one for POR so you don't have to worry about "sharing" that one :)

Have a great time!! I hope you enjoy the resort :goodvibes

i will be honest with you and not dis- coat it ...fact is most people are rude and you can be the first one at the bus stop and last one on the bus there is no "Q" and when the bus gets there its a mad rush.......

We were just at POFQ May 10-17 and the buses were great! We always found a seat and never once had a problem getting on the first bus that came for our destination park. We did see once when there were too many people waiting for the MK bus and they had to call a second bus; however, there was another bus there literally 3 minutes later and everyone got on. I was very impressed! The entire 7 days we were there we only went to the POR bus stops twice, both times when we were headed to Epcot (once early in the morning when we ended up being the only family on the bus, and once when they were dropping off returning POR guests before returning to Epcot in the afternoon). We thought the bus service was fantastic!

To OP and chipsgirl, this WAS the big problem we had at POR. I think as othhers have said, POFQ should be fine, as it is small. If you head over to POR though, and the resort is fairly crowded...

The one time we stayed there, my MIL had issues with standing. She sat on the bench at POR, and when the bus finally came, the only reason we were able to get her on the bus was because we had enough people in our group to literally make an opening for her! She did stand and attempt to join up with us as the bus pulled up, but the mob was SO bloodthirsty and aggressive, it was crazy. People were literaly shoving and elbowing. Oh, and our family was one of the first to arrive, most of us were right at teh curb the whole time. MIL was in no shape at the time to be fending off elbows. After that she mostly stayed at the resort, it was that scary. Maybe we just hit a particulary bad moment. There was minimal designation at the main stop at POR at tehtime to show where you were supposed to line up for each bus (less than AKL), and there was no CM supervising. It was a dangerous scenario, IMO. Hopefully, they've made improvements.

One thing I really liked about Pop was the chained queues. I thought they were much safer.

One more note to OP....With most shows, it may not be an advantage to be the first one in the show. The thing you learn quickly at WDW, is that when entering most shows, it is often best to be in the middle of the crowd. Turtle Talk is probably one of the few exceptions.

I'm reluctant to agree with this poster :teeth: but, he's right. My experiences at POR - none at POFQ, admittedly - have been that nobody cares how long others have been waiting. A bus arrives and everybody runs to board first... the heck with those Guests who were there earlier but chose to sit.

And after reading mickeyluv'r's post... maybe POR could benefit from queue chains?

I too agree that people don't pay attention to who is their first. I just think it is important to recognize that there is not a problem getting on the bus due to being the first stop and size of resort.

The other dynamic to recognize is that the shelter is the bus stop for more than one bus. Unless you ask, you don't know where the people who are there before you are going.

Exactly, there is no way to tell who got their first, and what resort they are going to, that is ridiculous to think that everybody is going to keep track of that. When you see your bus coming, a line begins to form. Of course everyone wants to get ont he bus, but you can't expect people to remember in what order to line up. It is just not realistic. It is simple, when you see your bus, stand up and move to the curb. If you are unhappy with the bus service at certain resorts, drive a car or stay elsewhere.

Hi! It is usually the first stop, so there will be plenty of seats on the bus.
It has always been the first stop in my experience, with one recent annoying exception. The last time I stayed at the French Quarter (Nov. 2008), all the busses going to and from the Studios were going to Riverside first, and THEN making a stop at the French Quarter. I don't know why the change to the Studios route, and I don't know if this is still the case. I solved the problem by using a taxi to and from the Studios, and will do that again if it remains the same. It's worth the small taxi fare to avoid all the waiting and standing to me.

Thanks. I did. Port Orleans Riverside is the only resort where I've even encountered this issue. Exact order, of course not. But it appeared - on two different stays - that common sense disappears when the POR bus arrives. If there are people sitting or standing in the shade as you run up to the bus stop - it's likely those others were waiting first.
