Weird ? - How Much is a Palm Tree

I know it may seem weird -

My DH uncle is moving to Charleston this month, and for Christmas from all the kids we thought we would have a small Palm Tree sent to him. He has everything - and is so hard to buy for. He keeps saying he wants to have palm trees in his yard.

Does anyone know of a place I can order from in the Charleston area and about how much do they go for?

Don't know about Charleston-I live in Houston. You'd have to research and see which palms are native to that area-it may be too cold for some palms that we have here. We were just in Dallas and I didn't see many palms. And you have to consider size-some get very very tall and they have to have their fronds trimmed. My neighbor next door spent $500.00 to have the fronds trimmed off of two 40 foot palms in their back yard. I was pricing Queen palms and the good healthy ones from a reputable palm nursery were in the $1000.00 range. I know you can get pygmy date palms and some other palms that are about 5 foot high at our local Home Depot in the $30-100 range.

They sell them year round in my neck of the woods. Cost considerations: What type of pam tree (there are hundreds), how large you wish to start ( a baby on up to a full grown palm), and of course climate.

We can get them for less than $100 on up.

You may consider a gift card to a nursery to be used at a later date when they get some palms in just in case you cannot find any at this type of year in Charleston.
