Okay, first let me start by telling you that it has been a very long time since I've taken a science class...so if this is a stupid question, I'm sorry!

This has happened to me twice and I don't know if there is a problem with the motorhome or if it is normal. The MH is plugged into a standard 30 amp outlet at our house. I just went out to get something out of it and when I put the key into the lock, it got a little electric shock (like a vibration that shot through my hand). I was barefoot and the MH is on a concrete pad. The last time this happened, my husband said that it probably had to do with the fact that there was a thunderstorm in the area and that I was barefoot. There isn't a storm today, but it's really cloudy. Once I put my shoes on and went back out, I didn't get the shock. Do you think this is a problem with the MH, a problem with using the electricity from the house, or some other weird personal problem that I might have? I have never noticed it doing this when we are hooked up to electricity at a campground. Any ideas? My husband has never had this happen to him, but he also doen't tend to go around barefoot.

You have an electric short. Could be a wire just touching metal. Ask on RV.net they will help you.

Holly;

Sounds like you have a faulty/interrupted ground. They sell a little gizmo for
under 5 bucks that you plug into a receptacle on the motor home. It has three
neon lights on it that will tell you the state of the power connection. You
should have one to check out campground power before and after you
hook up to it. I bought mine at Wal-mart. Most good surge suppressors
have something similar on them.

If you're using any adapters, or extension cords....I'd be suspect of them first.

If you're using an adapter to go from the three wire on the MH to a two wire
outlet......don't.

Sounds like a grounding issue check the plug in the house and make sure its properly grounded

I think we've narrowed it down to being caused by the extension cord...we think. My husband is going to buy a new one tomorrow and try it out. He says that the cord he was using is about 20 years old! :scared1:

Dang, is he trying to give u a message? Is there a hairdryer laying on your tub lol. I forget the life span of a cord but after 5 years I'd chunk it.

Extension cords should never be disposed of unless there are at least 5 duct tape repairs on them.
