Weird DVC Postcard In The Mail

We get DVC mail all the time advertising sales on contracts and add-ons and so forth. That's totally normal. However, I received this postcard that seemed completely out of the ordinary and nothing like I've received before.

"I've been trying to connect with you by phone" ? What bizarre wording and oddly personalized.

It says “been trying to connect with you”

I looked up the name and Matthew Ramsey has been a DVC guide for the last 8 years.

It could still be a scam. If you are interested in talking to someone at DVC, use a trusted number, not the one on the postcard.

Oh yes, i edited my post, but either word is bizarre. It seems legit, just weird. Are they that desperate for sales that they are contacting directly now? Lol

Yup! Have you seen the ROFR thread? 😂. Resale prices are just too good right now. I have only seen a few posts about people buying direct and it’s usually larger families who want to buy sorcerer passes.

I noticed before that often the guides need your “permission to contact” to call even if you’ve purchased direct before. I’m not sure of the rules but I know our guide sent me a “permission to contact” form that seemed weird since we had already had contact via email.

I have gotten them before. I would have no concern about calling the number. You can also use private screen.

You must be a candidate for DL. Probably legit, if the phone number is correct.

My advice is to send it to Member Satisfaction and ask if the post card is legitimate. FWIW, the 844 area code is often used to hide the actual area code from which the call is being made. It is often used by companies with employees in different regions.

You could also call the main sales number and ask to be connected to the person on the postcard.

It's probably legit, but it never hurts to verify.

I have no interest in calling or purchasing more, just was taken aback by the directness. Have they tried to call? (I don't answer unknown numbers). Isn't that phone soliciting? Lol

Might be the timeshare rules of wherever you live. They all have different rules, and maybe wherever you live, you have to call them?

There may have been some changes to the database (knowing Disney IT). I got a call from my guide last week asking me to submit a now "permission to contact" form on the DVC website as mine was currently set to "no emails". This is in contrast to 2 years ago, when he couldn't call me. but could email. I sure didn't change it, and have never set any restrictions on contacting me (from early experience on the boards even before I became a member, I realized a lot of people miss out on information and events because they don't get emails, etc.)

I imagine if someone's contact permissions were set to "no email" and "no phone calls", then the last resort would be a snail mail postcard.

I received a similar postcard about a month ago after hearing that my guide left DVC. My guess is that they're relatively new guides (that do not have the portfolio that more experienced guides have) and just wanted your permission to allow them to be your guide...

844 only indicates a toll-free number. Every DVC guide I've had has a toll-free contact number as well as their "regular" office number (not toll-free).

Sounds legit to me as I've experienced this before (via email, not postcard) when my current guide left Disney and I was assigned a new guide. Still, I agree your best option is to contact Member Services to confirm what's going on.

I got a card in Monday's mail informing me that my DVC guide is no longer in that role but if at any time I need to discuss my membership I can call (the number printed) and any guide would love to help me.

Have to say, I have been a member since February 1999 and I was actually put off by this as this is the 2nd time this has happened; in a year. The first was just before the DVC charter cruise on the Wish in July 2022. In that instance I was notified by my new guide 3 weeks before the sailing to inform me that my guide was no longer in that role and now she was my guide and would be on the sailing. So, my first guide was my guide for 23 years then no warning, then in 2022 a new guide. Met the new guide in July 2022 and now it is April 2023 and another new guide. I really liked my first guide as she always contacted me throughout the year to see how I was, see when or where my next adventure would be. Now, I get nothing. But that is ok.

We got a similar card a couple weeks ago, and I just missed the followup call from our guide.

Chat can likely advise you if yours is legit or not.

Our original guide, we learned last trip, was either laid off pandemic-wise or left for other options. He was good, but our new guide keeps in touch more regularly by phone or email than he did. Hope to meet her on our upcoming trip.

I'm pretty sure my original purchaser guide left many years ago as I've seen them elsewhere. I've not talked to anyone in DVC since I bought the contract 6 years ago and I have expressed no interest in further purchases. There's no reason for a random guide to send me a direct postcard. Weird business practice.

I would assume that Guides go through the backlog of members that haven't been contacted for a while, and reach out to them to see if they can interest them in an add-on. It's just a sales tactic.

I get calls and postcards from companies I've bought from, but haven't used in a while, for the same reason.
