A friend is a big money saver. Her kids do not eat a lot and she has read of a way to save some money at the counter service restaurants and I wanted to see if any of you have done this.

She read you can order a double cheeseburger meal and order an extra bun for 80¢ more. She said you can then divide the burger into two and split the fries and drink.

Has anyone done this? She said she read it on allearsnet.com and over at Mary's mousesavers.com site. I am just curious if anyone has done this.

We have ordered the extra bun before but that was because one of our kids didn't like the meat. We ordered the bun and everything was fine.

We do it all the time. In June of this year, we were not chared for the extra bun. It was on the recsipt as "extra bun" with no price next to it.

I can vouch for this. I worked for Pecos Bills and working on register I had families request this often (there is a button to select an extra bun). Go for it! It's a sin how much food goes to waste. If that makes it so that your family has the right amount of food and not too much that is a wonderful solution!

We did this on our trip last month without a problem...and yup, there was a button for it. We were charged for it though.

We've done it. Neither of us really need to eat a double cheeseburger, so splitting it and ordering an extra drink is both healthier and cheaper. :) We often don't get a burger anyway, but if we were in the mood we'd gladly just order the extra bun as we've done in the past.

Just to add to this, in case you have people who don't want hamburgers (I personally hate them) you can also order any sandwich withouth the fries (a la carte). It's not nearly as cost effective, but if you want to save on the amount of fries you get, you are only charged for the sandwich and save a little money that way as well. I almost never order fries when I go somewhere at WDW as it is just too much food.

Angela Kay did you use the new automated ordering terminal? I was wondering if this option was available there instead of going through the regular line.

We do this all the time. DD is a meat eater and there are no burgers on the kids menu's, at least there didn't used to be, so we would order a double burger and split it so she could have her meat and we didn't waste so much food. We also order without fries, I don't really like WDW fries and would rather save room for some other treat.

Not a weird question at all. We do it all the time and are charged the 80 cents. For those who might ask, why not just cut the double cheeseburger in half? Well I can't get my petite mouth around it, especially once toppings are added. By ordering two burgers and two buns, my family of four has plenty to eat and nothing is wasted.

I didn't know they had an automated terminal. We went through the regular line.

I think the only one is at Pecos Bill's and it is new, within the last couple of weeks I believe.
