Weird and Ninja’s Pre-Disneymoon [Completed!]

Time to do some catching up now…

LOL at the kennel story. Too funny!

As far as Weird’s ticket is concerned, it comes out the machine. No picking. The CM does not know which character is coming out next.

I’m glad you went ahead and got the GAC. Don’t worry what everyone else is thinking. If you need it, you use it.

YAY for getting on Soarin! I love it so much! Weird got some great pics while waiting in line.

Great last update!

hello!

sorry, I'm very very late here, but I'm subscribing! popcorn::
I know you've commented on some of my TRs.. and I'm really enjoying yours' so far!

The road-trip to WDW really intrigued me.. living over here in England I don't think I'll ever experience the drive to the World.. so it was fun to see what it's like!:goodvibes

And ... contact lenses... I know your pain of wearing them on journeys!! I used to wear my contacts for 18 hours + .. then started getting really horrible eye infections because of them, plus the air-conditioning at work :scared1: ... i've learned now to wear the lenses less - but, when i'm in WDW.. I wear thm all day!

looking forward to reading more!

You know, I don't know if I've ever even noticed the buffalo Living with the Land... Now I'm glad - they sound creepy!

I agree with you about the quotes - some of them are strange, but I love reading them while in line.

Bummer about the Disneymoon. Hopefully they'll come out with a great deal and you'll be able to go. You could always save up for an anniversary vacation and then you could (hopefully) add on some special things too! Then again, you could always elope at Disney their basic package is less than $5,000 - plus you get a "free" AP! :rotfl: Hershey is fun too. I went there for the first time last year - I was amazed how fun it was!

Sunday, April 5: Living with the Buffalo

Wow, that's a poorly constructed sentence, but I'm not going to rewrite it because I'd like to be done with this buffalo section. Haha.

I just had to make sure they didn't move from the platform to follow us since THIS time (last time we sat all the way in the front with the extra room for the wheelchair/buffalo), Weird and I were all the way in the BACK, which also meant extra room for the wheelchair/buffalo. They stayed though, or at least I think they stayed. I didn't see any legs pulling free from the platform.

:rotfl: My favorite parts of this installment! "extra room for the wheelchair/buffalo" especially.

I do know somewhat what you mean, though. I have started reading the 1st Kingdom Keepers book and I'm about halfway through it. :goodvibes

That's a bummer about not doing a Disneymoon, but at least you had this trip to tide you over until you guys do get to go. And, really, buying a house will be so much better than renting...putting your money toward something rather than throwing it to someone else. :thumbsup2

I never knew that about the balloons. See, this is why I read TRs...to learn something new!

I'm glad you survived the buffalo and none of them followed you onto the boat! :thumbsup2

Rachel, just for fun will you one day make us a quick list of all of your wacky fears? :upsidedow I promise I won't analyze it. ;)

haha, I guess I am slow too because I never realized the balloons represented the seasons either until I read about it!

I love those quotes on the wall, even moreso because kids said them. Awesome!

Hmm, now after you mentioning KK again I am wondering if the girl behind us when we rode read them because she was freaking out. I'll save the story for my TR...

When I told Weird, I believe he knew it already, and he doesn't read a lot of Disney things and he's rarely on DIS (haha, as you can tell by his absence on this thread). I'm learning to look at details though! Haha, in the meantime, I'll just keep reading about it and search for it!

Ooo, I can't wait for that possible KK-related story!

You are so funny! Enjoyed the last update. :goodvibes

Thanks! I'm glad I was finally able to post an update!

:lmao: I'm not laughing at your fear of buffalo, really I'm not. Glad you survived to tell us about it! :thumbsup2

Haha, I can still see the exact picture of the buffalo on your TR in my head.

I love that picture of the balloons! I didn't know they represented the seasons either, so don' feel bad!

I have been sitting here cracking up about the buffalo! My sister is absolutely terrified of the places at WDW where it feels like you're outside when you're inside. For example, on PoTC when you go in that room with the ocean and the ships firing cannons. Also on the Ellen Degeneres ride at Epcot where you are in the room with all the dinosaurs. When we took her for her birthday in 2009 she refused to eat at Sci Fi Dine in Theater because she was so scared of it! :rotfl:

Wow, that's an odd fear! I'm curious to know how that came about! Haha, not to say that there has to be a serious reason for it because it's not like I was ever attacked by buffalo!

Time to do some catching up now…

Great last update!

I know when I eventually finish my ticket, I'm going to purposely watch the machine! I'll be really eager to see what ticket I get. I guess it's more fun that way; if I had a choice, it'd probably take forever!

Yeah, I said that to myself regarding the GAC. If I was okay waiting in line, then I wouldn't use it. In the end, I did use it quite often. It decreased so my stress, which in turn, also helped decrease the possibility of fainting.

YAY! Welcome!!! Love getting new readers or having readers post for the first time.

Driving to WDW is definitely an experience in and of itself! Haha, having to drive back HOME after a vacation at WDW is the harder part!

Ouch to the eye infections! I'm pretty good with my contacts. When I get home from work, I try to take them out right away. My eyes are really getting a break now in the summer though. I rarely put them in because I haven't been leaving the house! But yeah, Disney is pretty difficult because suddenly I have them in for almost an entire day when I'm not used to it!

You know, I don't know if I've ever even noticed the buffalo Living with the Land... Now I'm glad - they sound creepy!

I agree with you about the quotes - some of them are strange, but I love reading them while in line.

Yeah, saving up for an anniversary trip sounds better. Weird did say that we could always just go and stay value as opposed to where my dream Disneymoon would be - the Poly! I really don't care where we are; being in Disney would be great! But then there'd be the cost of the hotel, food, and airfare that would probably be quite astronomical. It's worse because of my career; we can't just take advantage of any deal since I have to go by my teaching schedule.

Hehe, i'd love to elope at Disney, but I think there'd be a lot of angry people back home! My former and current students included!

:rotfl: My favorite parts of this installment! "extra room for the wheelchair/buffalo" especially.

I do know somewhat what you mean, though. I have started reading the 1st Kingdom Keepers book and I'm about halfway through it. :goodvibes

Haha, they could just be SAYING it's for wheelchair guests! I mean, who knows what it's REALLY for?!?

I remember the first time I read KK1. I was stuck in bed since I fell down during a field trip a rollerskating/blading rink (kid skated in front of me!) and injured my coccyx. One of my students who was also obsessed with Disney kept telling me to read it! It was actually his copy. Finally I had the time to read it, and I remember getting SO SCARED when ... um, the main bad guy said the main character's name. Haha, I don't know what part you're up to, so I don't want to reveal anything.

I really like that ... "putting your money toward something rather than throwing it to someone else." I know in the long run it'll be much better. It's just that in my mind I always had Disneymoon, but I'll just have to get over that! Haha, considering the rate I'm writing this TR, maybe I'll still be trying to finish this when we get married!

I never knew that about the balloons. See, this is why I read TRs...to learn something new!

I'm glad you survived the buffalo and none of them followed you onto the boat! :thumbsup2

It's really crazy how much I know from DIS! Haha, my mom didn't know why I read it so often, and now that trips are easier/more fun because I have this info, she understands!

Rachel, just for fun will you one day make us a quick list of all of your wacky fears? :upsidedow I promise I won't analyze it. ;)

Haha, I definitely will! I already started writing down a list of them once I read this comment.

Monday, April 5: Entering the Greenhouse

After the cause for some heart palpitations aka the buffalo scene, we approached the more interesting part of Living with the Land!

IMG_1228.jpg

I love the transition between the dark tunnel to the bright greenhouse.

IMG_1229.jpg

I think it's great being able to sit all the way at the front OR all the way at the back. I don't feel so bad taking tons of pictures. In the front, you have everything right in front of you and tons of leg room. In the back, y ou can turn around and get pictures that way if you missed them. I was excited as was Weird, but you see that my dad has already started to rub his eyes in this pic because he's preparing for his nap!

IMG_6443.jpg

Weird captured this pic that I really like. I have a thing for ride vehicles. I think they're just so cool! Even something as simple as the boats in Living with the Land. When Weird took pics, I sometimes asked him to get a picture of the ride vehicle IN the actual ride scene. This one he took without my even asking him. I think it gives a different perspective as opposed to just focusing on the things growing. You can see the boat, the sand with the plants, and the greenhouse. Reminds me so much more of Disney to have all those components in the pic.

IMG_1230.jpg

At the beginning of the ride, I left all the photographing to Weird. I knew his camera would capture better pics than mine would. Later on, I realized that was kind of a stupid move because there were things that we just saw differently. He would capture things differently or take pics of other things. Next time we'll know to just keep on snapping! We love pics!

Anyway, this was the only pic I took at the beginning of the ride. I thought it was interesting to see the water lilies. I don't know if it's a new addition or if it's something I've just never noticed before because I'm always turned to the right to admire the baby pineapples!

IMG_6444.jpg

I love fresh pineapple! It's just so yummy because it actually isn't that sour. Unfortunately, I think I'm slightly allergic to pineapple now! The last few times that my parents bought a fresh one and sliced it up, my tongue felt weird afterwards and it left an odd taste in my mouth. Thankfully, the Dole Whip doesn't create that problem!

IMG_1231.jpg

If both Weird and I eat some of this miracle fruit, will we have a miracle and have enough money to afford a Disneymoon?!?

IMG_1234.jpg

Weird can take pics of things, but he hasn't quite mastered the one-handed shot yet. Haha, that's my specialty, and I know a lot of other DIS couples know it well! I'm just thinking about all the other couples (many around my age) who have to do the same thing! The goal is to always show as much of the background as possible so that it's not just a picture of us in our hometown, haha.

IMG_6447.jpg

I also took a pic of the area where the buffalo COULD have joined us. Haha, can you tell it takes me a while to get over these things?

IMG_6448.jpg

Instead of thinking it's a buffalo spot, I'll just pretend it's an extra seat for you DISers! Hop on as I continue talking about this ride! Haha, seriously ... I can and will make Living with the Land last 3 installments ...

Oy. Have I seriously still been writing Sunday when Epcot was on Monday? Haha, I have issues ...

That is definitely enough room to have a buffalo join you! I can understand why you were scared.

I am not good at the one handed shot either. That is DF's area.

WOW! Great job on that one handed shot! I can't believe how centered the picture is! Everytime I try to do that with DH I end up getting the top of my head and about half of his face. I need to practice!

I love the greenhouse! Everytime I ride through it I want to hop out of the boat and eat all of that yummy stuff they have growing all over. I love the picture with the ride vehicle in it! It's cool that you are interested in different ride vehicles. I have never really thought about it before but they are pretty fascinating!

I am cracking up again over the seat for the buffalo! I am going to call that the buffalo seat from now on in your honor! :rotfl:

Oh, and in response to a few things I commented about earlier and you responded to:

I'm not sure why my DH doesn't like Soarin'. Honestly I think it's for two reasons: first, he is a paratrooper in the Army so he jumps out of planes for a living. I think that being on Soarin' maybe isn't realistic enough for him since he's actually been up that high? :confused3 And also the first time we rode Soarin' we literally waited in line for 3 hours. I think that experience may have put a bad taste in his mouth when it comes to riding it. I dunno, I still love it!

Also, I'm not sure why my sister is so afraid of feeling like she's outside while she's inside on Disney rides. She said it has something to do with the smell. and I think that idea that it looks like a horizon in the distance but it's actually a wall just freaks her out. She had never seen anything like that before Disney so I guess she's just not used to it!

My biggest Disney related fear is riding Space Mountain and the lights coming on. I'm not sure why but I feel like if the lights came on while I was riding it and I saw what it really looked like in there I would freak out. Haha, I'm strange, I know!

I'm not entirely absent on this thread, my pictures are all over the place! ;)

I have to admit, I knew you were watching me as I was experiencing Soarin' but I was entranced by all the smells, the sounds, the wind, the man picking oranges, the dangling feet above me ...

I do feel a little out of place here, actually, since there are so many teachers on this thread! I'm really glad that Rae has a group of teachers who share a love for Disney AND teaching! I mean, I do my best to relate to her when she's sharing all her stories about her students, but I don't think I'd understand her as well as all of you would. I just do my best and listen :)

I'm glad you guys are enjoying my pictures! Because I don't have the eloquence of actually writing up a TR (or captioning my albums on facebook), I justify it by supplying the pictures :D Or at least that's how I'm justifying it with myself. Rae tells the story a lot better than I would, anyway

Keep on reading! Since I know the rest of the trip, there are some exciting things ahead. After all, we are in WDW! :woohoo:

I love your description and fears of the buffalo room! I will definitely think of you when I ride Living with the Land in September. I am sure I will be laughing out loud~

I have an irrational fear of balloons, and I am teased mercilessly at work for it. At least you don't have people teasing you whenever someone's birthday rolls around--which is at least twice a month! :rotfl:

Weird can take pics of things, but he hasn't quite mastered the one-handed shot yet. Haha, that's my specialty, and I know a lot of other DIS couples know it well! The goal is to always show as much of the background as possible so that it's not just a picture of us in our hometown, haha.

I totally know what you mean! We are in the same predicament... although, at least Weird can take pics of other things. My hubby can take a picture, they just aren't very good. I tease him about this all the time. He is a movie freak-- and so I just tell him that if it would make a good "shot" in a movie, it is probably a good picture. He just doesn't get it! Luckily we are traveling with people this time around, so we won't have that problem. If he takes a bad picture, I will have my SIL's pictures as back up!

I'm loving LWTL - you guys got some great shots. My husband has to be the one to take the self portraits, my arms just aren't long enough.

:rotfl: I was thinking to myself - "I don't remember Living with the land being such a long ride" Guess I'll have to pay more attention next time. Usually I'm like your dad, nap time! I only wake up for the Mickey pumpkins!

Weird - Thanks for supplying the pictures! They're great.

Okay, just joining in. And I finally got all caught up - Phew! I have to say, that I am loving your TR! You seriously crack me up and I feel like we are truly getting to know you and your personality. I also think it's funny how you can bond so quickly with others on the DIS before meeting in person. DH doesn't quite get that. I love that aspect of the trip reports section of the boards.

I tried to remember all the things I wanted to comment on as I was catching up, so here it goes:

I totally think we'd get along as I am a fellow GG addict! I secretly long to have the Lorelai/Rory relationship with my little girl. haha. In fact, if I am home, I still tune the TV to ABC Family when GG is on so I can have it on in the background.

I also was told I have vasovagal syncope when I was in high school, although mine is not as severe as yours.

I also have a wierd fascination with Cracker Barrel.

Love your bag! I had a simlilar bag for our park days but I think mine was a Harajuku Lovers version for LeSportsac or something like that.

Can't wait to hear about the proposal! I never got to go ring shopping with my hubby, but he did a great job. I love when the setting isn't too high so it doesn't snag on clothing. I love my sparkly!

Can't wait to follow along for the rest of your trip.

That is definitely enough room to have a buffalo join you! I can understand why you were scared.

I am not good at the one handed shot either. That is DF's area.

Haha, I'm sure one of the baby buffalo could have stayed on the seat, and a larger one could've stood in that empty spot! Creepy!

WOW! Great job on that one handed shot! I can't believe how centered the picture is! Everytime I try to do that with DH I end up getting the top of my head and about half of his face. I need to practice!

The only difficult think about taking the one-handed shots is that Weird and I have fairly large noggins! Haha, our heads fill in the frame, so there's not much room for background! The other difficult part is to make sure not to shake the camera, otherwise it'll be blurry.

Yup, ride vehicles are the greatest! I like anything that makes me feel as if I'm on a ride, so that's probably why I have a special fascination with it.

Haha, everyone reading my TR will go on that ride thinking of the buffalo. Haha, I know that happens with some rides when others write funny stories about things.

Oh, I would DEFINITELY be scared if the lights came on during Space Mountain! When I saw it on when I rode the TTA, I was so surprised to see how close the tracks were.

I'm not entirely absent on this thread, my pictures are all over the place! ;)

I have to admit, I knew you were watching me as I was experiencing Soarin' but I was entranced by all the smells, the sounds, the wind, the man picking oranges, the dangling feet above me ...

Yup, thanks for all the pictures! Haha, I didn't realize it was going to be harder to sort through your pics and mine! Thankfully, I can reupload them in the right size to make it a bit easier. I love that you have good pics of things that I don't have though!

Hehe, I'll let you know when I update.

:rotfl:

Whoa, I've never heard of a fear of balloons before! What exactly frightens you about them? With buffalo, I hate the eyes amidst that gross hair. Are you afraid of them popping?

I totally know what you mean! We are in the same predicament... although, at least Weird can take pics of other things. My hubby can take a picture, they just aren't very good. I tease him about this all the time. He is a movie freak-- and so I just tell him that if it would make a good "shot" in a movie, it is probably a good picture. He just doesn't get it! Luckily we are traveling with people this time around, so we won't have that problem. If he takes a bad picture, I will have my SIL's pictures as back up!

I'm curious to know how many pics Weird will take the next time we go. I limited him this time because I wanted to make sure that he actually SAW everything with his own eyes instead of through a camera lens. Hehe, maybe your DH is just trying to enjoy everything in real life and not through a lens.

I'm loving LWTL - you guys got some great shots. My husband has to be the one to take the self portraits, my arms just aren't long enough.

The camera also has to be light too! Long arms and lighter camera. Oh, and steady arms! You can have long arms, but if they shake, then it'll come out blurry. Haha, smart move on Disney's part to have the PhotoPass people around!

Haha, it is a rather long ride with a ton to see each time! I understand how easy it is to fall asleep with the slow movement though!

Okay, just joining in. And I finally got all caught up - Phew! I have to say, that I am loving your TR! You seriously crack me up and I feel like we are truly getting to know you and your personality. I also think it's funny how you can bond so quickly with others on the DIS before meeting in person. Can't wait to follow along for the rest of your trip.

Yay! Welcome to my TR! I'm glad that it can be entertaining to others. Haha, it's entertaining for me to write it. I love having a record of everything. I always tell my students to write with interesting details so that it's different from their peers' writing. Adding in extra details about me hopefully makes it separate from other TRs. That's what I like when reading TRs too! Because everyone goes on the same ride; I like knowing what YOU thought about it. And yup, it is definitely easy to bond with people on DIS! Haha, and talk about them in real life.

Haha, funny thing is, I have Gilmore Girls playing in the background. I have all 7 seasons on DVD, which I love especially since I can turn on the captions (except for one season, boo) because I actually miss a lot of things since they talk so quickly! I also love the references to pop culture. My mom and I used to watch it together and she'd laugh at different things than I would because we knew different references! And yes, the Lorelai/Rory relationship is just so great!

Wow, we really are rather similar with the love for GG and Cracker Barrel. And then vasovagal syncope! Third person to have it and comment on my TR! It's so funny because when I first heard of it from my doctor, I didn't know it was rather common.

Hehe, I'm excited to talk about the proposal when it happens. I love my simple sparkly ring! I can't wait to see it again and actually have it for good!

Monday, April 5: Fish, Veggies, and Heartburn

The last update had us go through the first part of the Living with the Land greenhouse. We were heading to the one part that my dad enjoys - the fishies!

Being Chinese means that we eat a good amount of fish. Dad eats a lot more because not only is it a part of Chinese diet and it's healthy, he also really enjoys it! I enjoy it too as long as it has a good taste. I don't like fish that's lemon-flavored. I need more than that. Salmon is my favorite (hehe, especially raw!). Anyway, when I had the gallbladder issues before I had it removed, I ate a lot of fish because it wouldn't upset my digestive system. That's when I started eating a lot more of it and actually started enjoying it because I knew I wouldn't get sick.

IMG_1235.jpg

I was excited to see the hose coiled up to be a Hidden Mickey! I like that this one's very easy to see, but still hidden because people don't necessarily look at it and think anything of the hose. Haha, I didn't see it on my own; I read about it beforehand.

IMG_1237.jpg

The baby alligators or crocodiles (despite how many times Weird tells me the difference, I can never remember) were really active this time. Normally, they just lounge around.

IMG_6451.jpg

Close-up of the "aldergators"! Hehe, anyone watch Jon & Kate? You know, when it wasn't a whole big drama-fest? I loved how into "aldergators" and reptiles Alexis was! And if you know the show, you'll know that the huge plastic aldergator that Alexis loves was actually purchased at Disney World.

IMG_1239.jpg

Here's another pic of those fishies!

IMG_6452.jpg

Before you leave the fishies place, you can see the shrimp in those tubes. I saw this in the Hidden Mickey book.

IMG_6453.jpg

In this pic, you can see that it's made up of circular cages or something.

IMG_1241.jpg

Back out into the greenhouses, I saw brussels sprouts! I really want to try them. I grew up reading about how kids hate brussels sprouts and try to hide them to avoid eating them. It's not a vegetable that we ever had in the house. Haha, we had our own versions of "bad" vegetables like bitter melon (don't like the taste, but it's great for colds because it has quinine in it!). Anyway, I'm just waiting for a restaurant to have brussels sprouts so I can try them. I've seen pics of sprouts cut in half, slightly browned, with lots of garlic. Yum. Plus, I LOVE the hearts of lettuce and such, so I feel like sprouts would be a little bite of fun.

Oy, this is heartburn city! Just looking at them got me agitated! Haha.

This isn't exactly very hidden, but I don't know if this was always there and I just never noticed it! Haha, this is my version that I like because that's my mom's hand pointing it out to Matt.

And this is Weird's version sans my mom's hand.

A ton of huge winter melons! Chinese use a lot of melons for soup. Not the honeydew or canteloupe kind of melons though. It's pretty amazing how I stay much healthier when we have Chinese soup after our dinner. We usually have it before a vacation and then when we get back.

Corn! Back in college before Weird and I started dating, I used to say he was extremely corny. He definitely was! Haha, he'll even admit to it. I used to also call him a "fob," which stands for "fresh off boat." I know some people see it as an insult, and I agree that it kind of is to some degree, but for some reason, it can be done in a teasing way from one Asian to another. Anyway, I used to call him a "corn on the fob," so any time we would see corn, we'd get excited because it brought back memories.

Cotton is always amazing. So fluffy! Haha, I want to touch it. It's also interesting to see ... oh wait, I can so print this picture out and use it in class ... because I read a book with the 8th grade called Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, which takes place in a time AFTER slavery, but there's still a ton of racial tension in the South. The Logan family picks cotton, so it would be interesting to show them what it looks like because I think most kids think of cotton balls when they think of cotton.

I think the last time we rode this ride, I finally saw the HUGE Mickey in the lettuce! Haha, I'm extremely slow apparently, but I think that's the beauty of being ... um, slower. Each time, there's more magic to embrace!

IMG_6458.jpg

There's one in the front and one in the back on both sides of the boat.

IMG_1258.jpg

This is my favorite picture of the entire ride though. Hehe.

And while I took that one, Weird took this one.

As we continued on our boat ride, I saw bell peppers. Unfortunately, sometimes they give me heartburn too! The green ones seem to be the worst, and I avoid things that have green peppers in it if I can help it. Sweet green ones raw in salad don't seem to bother me though.

Weird and I both loved seeing the strawberries. A few months ago, Weird was reviewing and teaching Chinese words with me. I'm not very good with Chinese, and I wish I were better. My parents taught the language to my older brother, but when I was born, my mom had already switched to English pretty much all the time so that he would be ready for school, so that's the household I grew up in. Anyway, one of the words I didn't know was the word for "strawberry." I always thought that Chinese were somehow pronouncing "strawberry," but there really is a word for it! He taught me, and I like saying it all the time when we see it! "see-daw-beh-lay"

Haha, by the way, my dad was sleeping by this point. He just can't stay up for very long on these kinds of rides or shows!

We also saw edible flowers. I'm curious to know if you can just pull this off and chow down!

Another Hidden Mickey that we were looking to spot was in the Biotechnology Lab.

IMG_6465.jpg

Can you see it? It's the green test tube toppers in the spinner thingie. Haha, how technical, right?

IMG_1268.jpg

I really liked this last picture because both Weird and I took it without even pointing it out to each other. We didn't do the tour this time, but I know that in the future, I would like to do this tour with my mom because she likes gardening veggies.

Phew, now done with Living with the Land! Hehe, but we're still not done with The Land Pavilion though! Haha, you know me by now to know that I've still got a long way to go.
