Weight Watchers throughout the World

OHHHH! Cant sleep! So glad to find you! I am on WW and just love it! As long as I stay away from the rolls and bread and pasta (etc) I'll be fine. Last year, I gained a few pounds while on vacation. I did not "watch it" so I really had a hard time getting it off. I am 30 pounds over weight (size14/16) and reeeeallly need to lose 10-ish pounds before we go this Sept. 5th -14th (38 more days!) CRAP! I just stick to my points and dont cheat...maybe I'll reward myself with carms or pins??? Thank you for this thread! I really need support!
UrselaS- I am so happy for your wt. loss! YOU ROCK!! What is your best tip?

Thanks for all your support and help. You guys are a big part of my success.
I plan on having a few well-chosen snacks and treats, but it's all part of the WW plan, so it's not being "bad", it's simply planning ahead and accounting for everything that goes into my mouth. Wish everyplace had "points" values for their menus...ahh, dreaming again.

I'm an avid weight watcher, though never a member of WW. Congratulations on your weightloss and continued success and determination. It's easy to take the attitude that you're on vacation and therefore not accountable to yourself for your mindful lapse... but you're smart to realize that a departure from your regimen and current mentality could be the undoing of many months of hard work. I know when I adopt the careless attitude it can be difficult to reverse.

I am not familiar with the core program, but I do have some strategies that work for me. Calories ultimately determine your weight. The quality of the foods you eat ultimately determines your health.

Make sure to carry a water bottle with you. Drinking a cup of water for every 20 lbs of weight per day is a great starting point. If you are especially active, you'll want to add to that.

Don't drink juices, even if they say 100% fruit juice. Eating a whole apple or orange or banana or other fruit will keep you fuller and provide fiber.

When you dine at TS, always choose a salad (spinach preferably) as an appetizer with the dressing on the side. If you have a favorite lo-cal dressing, consider bringing it. I happen to love Newman's Own Light Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette or Salad Spritzer Italian.

Restrict entree portion size. A good way to do this is to immediately cut the items on your plate down to the right portion size, and move the remainder to another plate. Then start eating.

If you have the will-power, order dessert and restrict your intake to a bite or two.

Limit salty snacks that cause you to retain water.

If you have a favorite treat at WDW, get it once. If you eat only a small bit of it, have one more later in your trip.

Good luck! I can't wait to hear how well you handled the trip!

You'll laugh, but my best tool is...frozen edamame! Oh, and the dry roasted is great, too. I'm an infamous snacker, and if I get the incredible urge to sit in front of the TV and munch, I thaw out a little edamame and eat that. So much more satisfying than carrot sticks, more protein, and very snack-y. (for those of you who don't know, edamame is soybeans. Don't knock it til you try it). Second on the list is FF, SF Jello Pudding. Get my dairy points in a wonderful, creamy chocolatey treat.

I'm a WW fanatic myself -- joined in Nov. '02 and had lost 138 lbs (from 301 lbs to 163 lbs). I'm back up about 25 lbs. because of some health problems, but those have been resolved and I'm back on track. It's easy to "lose your way" -- bad habits get picked up quickly -- so I too stick with it on vacation. Here are the rules I set for myself at WDW:

1. Breakfast is always healthy -- and I always eat a real breakfast. A fruit plate with yogurt or an egg white veggie omelet usually start my day. I LOVE the apple cinnamon oatmeal at WL if they still have it -- really got my day started right. The oatmeal/fruit platter at RFC was fantastic and HUGE, as well -- I only ate half the oatmeal because it was just too much.

2. Lunch is usually pretty light -- sometimes as light as just a frozen banana or a small veggie salad. We tend to eat breakfast late and dinner early, so lunch is usually just a snack.

3. At dinner, I splurge on whatever I want -- the key here is that I only eat half of what's on my plate and I try to concentrate on the protein and veggies first. If DH wants to, we share -- or he just eats some of mine too (no weight problem on his end). If it's something I think I'll reheat later in the trip (usually only if we're on a longer trip), I'll take it with me. But better to waste it in the garbage than wear it on my hips. We rarely do buffets. I want to sample everything and it's just too tempting.

4. I allow myself dessert or a tasty treat once EVERY day! Could be churros or a rice crispy treat in the middle of the afternoon, could be a decadent dessert after dinner (in which case we usually share or I don't finish it). At least once each trip, it's a scoop of ice cream with some kind of yummy sauce at Ghirardellis.

5. To balance the dessert, I don't skip my regular exercise routine just because I'll be walking so much. My body is used to a minimum of 20 minutes of cardio every morning, so I head to the hotel gym for about 30 minutes almost every day.

6. I get in all my water and all my fruits & veggies every day.

With these simple rules, I usually come through with flying colors! I haven't had a real gain (I always wait 3 days after the trip to weigh-in, because frequently I gain water from all the salty stuff) and have actually lost several times. I don't count points while I'm away either -- just try to use my instincts to make sensible choices.

Some of my favorite places to eat:
1. Artist Point -- fantastic grilled meats.
2. Citricos -- wonderful fish and seafood choices. I like Citricos better than Narcoosees, Coral Reef or Fulton's.
3. Wolfgang Puck's -- sushi, sushi, sushi!
4. Mama Melrose's eggplant napoleon.
5. Kona Cafe for breakfast -- fantastic coffee!!!
6. Flame Tree and Tusker House Salads -- both are delicious BUT ask for dressing on the side of they LOAD it with dressing.

Happy travels!

Congrats to all of you for the great weight loss! I'm also on WW (core plan), and I have 3 more pounds to lose to get my BMI out of the "overweight" category. We're going to WDW in 7 more weeks and I'm hoping to lose 10 more pounds so I can wear a bikini. I've had this bikini since the late 90's (I don't care if it's not in style), and I'm hoping to wear it at the pool at WDW.

I am looking over the menus at the places we're planning on eating, and I'm going to go with pretty much what everyone on this thread has said: salads with low-fat/no-fat dressing on the side, lean meats, fruit for snacks, etc. I'm trying to figure out what would be a good in-room breakfast. I'm not crazy about the diet breakfast bars, so maybe I could heat up some hot water from the coffee pot and make some sugar-free oatmeal???? I still need to work on this one...lol.

I haven't visited the WISH site...maybe I'll head over there.

Mary
