Well, I'm going to Disney in about 2 months. I'm starting to get nervous thinking I might not 'fit' or at least be comfortable in the rides. I'm size 20 jeans (female). Does anyone know if there are any rides that I should avoid? I'm going with a big group of people and I dont want to be embarassed. I would just rather avoid the ride. Any info would be great. Thanks!

I've been reading the other threads about this exact same concern b/c my hubby and I are both pooh-sized and apparently we are good to go. The only thing to look out for are some of the turnstiles and we can always use the wheelchair access ones instead of turning sideways and walking through.

being a size 20 I cant see you having any trouble on most of the rides except maybe astro orbiter, I have heard it's a very narrow ride. the last time I was there I was a size 28-30 and had no problem with any ride that I went on and I love rides.

I too am 'festivly plump' and dont have a problem on the rides(then again, I dont go on thrill rides) but my wife and her family are 'plump' and they have have problems either, I hear astro orbiter is the only one that could be a problem.

Don't worry one minute about it! WDW is the most size-friendly place in the world. I'm a size 28 and I've never had an issue. Just go sideways through the turnstiles at MK or use the gate, and if you go on Kali River Rapids at AK try to get a seat to yourself or sit with someone very small (this is no problem--the CMs will not hassle you about this). Everything else was no problem!

I was really worried before my first trip as well, but I stopped thinking about it after the first day and have never worried about it since!

Have a great time!

My DD and I started working out for our October trip. I am 6' 3" and weigh about 290lbs. Most of it is in the stomach area for me. Same for DD. I hope we are going to be okay too.

There is a website out there somewhere that has actual pictures of each rides cars. I wish I knew where it was. :(

I had to reply to this post. We went to Disney in November and I worried myself SICK over whether I would be able to ride the attractions while we were there. I would actually lay in bed at night and get upset over it.

Well let me tell you. I was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED! I went on ALL THE RIDES that my family did except one. And it wasnt even in Disney. It was at IOA. Its a water ride in the kiddie area. I forget the name. Its like a log fume. I didnt embarress myself by trying to fit on the ride, I just excused myself once I saw how narrow it was. I also remember reading a post by someone that The Mummy can be tight for people who are plus sized, and I road that as well. The last row in the "car" is for larger people.

Honestly, from TOT to RNRR to Astro Orbiter and Space Mountain. I did them all. I am NOT A LITTLE LADY. 5'9 and 315 at the time of the trip. My belly is the main place of my weight as well.

Have a great time and TRUST ME you will be fine!

There is nothing to worry about...really. I was a size 28 when I was there last and I rode EVERYTHING and went EVERYWHERE. The turnstiles were a little tricky. The CM's are wonderful. They never make you feel different. :bitelip: There are benches everywhere. That is the one thing you'll probably have to do, is sit alot. I got tired, which was understandable. Since then,I'v had gastric bypass and am now almost a 14! I plan to be a comftorble 10-12 by next trip,2006! :cheer2: Good luck!

Thank you. That makes me feel better.

However, DD and I still need to lose the weight for health reasons.

To think, when I was in the Air Force I had a washboard stomach and huge arms. Then I got married. LOL :rotfl:

Trust me. I know about needing to lose some weight! I am already working on that for our cruise this summer. Its not easy! :guilty:

Yes, those young single days in the Air Force are but a memory, eh? Since my surgery, DH has shed 65 on his OWN, so proud of him. When I look at our DW pics from 2001 I shudder. It is work and we all know that. I know for my hubby, who was 41 when he lost his weight, it was cutting back on his breads, and no more seconds. I'm so proud of him. Children I think have a harder time, so helping them be concious of their choices is a big help. Our youngest DD is 9 and she's about 10-15 on the fluffy side. We hope to help her shed it this summer. Good luck to you and your DD :cheer2:

I am having the same issue. Injured my back and had subsequent surgery. Already about 15 lbs over weight and gained another 15...ugh! Have lost about 4 of that. The real key is EXERCISE and cutting portions. Can't wait until I am cleared to ride my new recumbant stationary bike. I want to look good at the water parks this summer...lol! Also, the extra weight doesn't help out the back problems, either!

Like everyone else has said, don't worry.
I am a size 24, female and carry most of my weight through my hips and thighs. Never had a problem at WDW. I even rode Astro Orbiter with my DD, she was four at the time. I didn't feel squeezed or uncomfortable at all.
My one bit of advice would be to get moving now, start a walking regimen just to get your feet ready. You will do a lot of walking in the parks.
I never feel self conscious while there. In fact, WDW is the only place you will ever catch me in a swimsuit!
We swim a lot at the resorts and I don't really think about what anyone else is thinking of me. Most of the people are so busy having fun with their own families to care what you might look like!

Enjoy your trip!

Even though the question has been answered I had to respond! The first time I went to Disney I was so nervous because of this very thing. I too was (and still am) a size 20. I wish I had known about this board before my first trip so my mind could have been at ease! I was nervous because I had done a Six Flags park years earlier and almost got kicked off the ride. Some operator made a big to do acting like he was really straining himself to get the ride bar down. So humilitating I literally did not do an amusement park for the next 10 years! Finally, decided I needed to Disney for my kids. I have never NOT fit into anything at WDW or DL I am happy to say. For those of you with size issues, enjoy your vacations and have fun. Disney is such an accepting environment for plus sized people, you will never feel self conscious. I just started Weight Watchers am down 8 pounds and we leave tomorrow. Now if I can just keep myself away from Mickey Bars I might be okay!

SO true about the swimsuit issue. I would have NEVER worn a swimsuite in public pre-surgery EXCEPT at DW. We spent a day at Typhoon Lagoon and I had a ball. Disney is great when it comes to ANYONE who is "different" ;)
