Hello,

We are planning a 2 night break away from Orlando in August. Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on a suitable destination?

I am favouring Daytona or Cocoa Beach as they are slightly closer than the Gulf coast beaches and to be honest for 2 nights I'm not that keen to have a 2+ hour drive.

What does anyone think? We will look to get a beachside hotel I expect.

Cheers

Karen

We thought that Cocoa Beach was rather like Rhyll but with Sunshine. Wouldnt like to stay here.

Never been to Daytona, so I havent exactly been helpful have I? Sorry.

Well, I've never been to Rhyll ;)

I strongly recommend you keep it that way  .

Actually, the area around Port Canaveral is lovely. We did a a little tour here after doing the Space Center one year. I think Titusville is the only town of note, but the beaches were incredible and you drive miles and not see a soul.

Weather permitting, we're doing this in February. The last weekend of our holiday is the Sat/Sun of the 19th & 20th. If all goes to plan, we want to spend the Saturday in Cocoa Beach as our kids love sea and sand, stay in one of the numerous hotels overnight and then goto the Kennedy Space Centre on Sunday before returning to Orlando.

It would've been more special if the scheduled launch of an Atlas 5 rocket had been on the Sunday but its been postponed until the 3rd March :( Ah well, thats the way it goes, the best laid plans of mice and men eh?

However, we still want to do this if we can as the kids want to goto a beach and I want to goto KSC for the 3rd time (never even been to our National Space Centre in Leicester!). It will also keep us away from the parks which are likely to be heaving that weekend as its the start of the Presidents Day holiday.

Although i will be making my first trip in May we have friends who have been 8 times to florida...when i told them we would like a short stay on the coast their actual words were "make sure its the Gulf coast, its much better" they said they particularly liked a place called Siesta Keys.

I have to say we went to Cocoa Beach for a day the first time we went to Florida about 10 years ago and would not go back. I didn't like it there at all :(

However, we are planning a break away from the parks for 4 or 5 days at Indian Rocks or somewhere nearby this year, but definitely the Gulf Coast!

Good luck!

YOU HAVE GOT DO THE GULF COAST OR I WON'T TALK TO YOU AGAIN :rotfl2: ( as if)
it has to be the Gulf Coast it's like being in the caribbean.
On the Atlantic coast it could be any British resort on a dry day ( rare i know)
:rotfl:

Thanks guys

Yes I love the Gulf Coast (we've been to Siesta Key and agree it's wonderful) but when I originally posted this a month ago I was wondering if the Atlantic Coast resorts being that bit closer would be a better option. It seems not!

We have decided we may just go to I Drive and spend a day or two at Universal IOA and SeaWorld (we need to leave WDW for the weekend to save some DVC points!) Tony, you can accept full reponsibility for that decision ;)

Cheers

Karen
