Week after Christmas

If you are talking about the week between Christmas and New Years...I have one word to describe how it is at Disney during that time-PSYCHOTIC! ::yes::

Well...I think you have to approach going at this time differently than any other time of year. You definitely are picking the most crowded time of year. Just don't expect to do every attraction or see everything. The parks close for capacity quite often during this week. We are going this year over Christmas and our mindset is that we are there to take in the atmosphere more than we are there to partake in the shows and rides. Any other time of year we have a different outlook on Disney and we are able to go and do and see just about everything. If you go into it knowing you WILL be in wall to wall people and long lines and you can deal with that, then you should be okay. For us the decor and magic of being at Disney for the holiday offsets the fact that we don't get to do a whole lot other than take it all in. :santa:

Well, since this would be the first for my kids (6 and 4) I would say that wouldn't be a good experience for us all around. I want to be there someday for the holiday stuff but it may just have to wait a few more years.

If you go earlier in the month of December, it is really enjoyable then. You still get to take in all the holiday decor and activities without the hordes of people.

We went last year during the first week of Dec. I couldn't have picked a better time. We walked right on most all of the rides and the longest we waited in line was for TT and that was Friday evening. MK was great. We went on Monday morning about 9 and we had been able to enjoy EVERYTHING by 2pm. We went back to our room for a swim and rest and did MK from 7pm-12am and enjoyed it all again.

I was trying to pick a time without missing school. I've contemplated his October break as he has 3 days out (M-W). Up until now I was ok w/taking him out for the last 2 days but he got perfect attendance this past year (K) and I'm thinking different now.

I was torn for a long time about taking the kids out as well. My DD10 had perfect attendance also. But then I was thinking that this was something that our family needs, and it was so worth it. The memories that we (esp. me) will have forever are better than an award that I would probably forget anyway.

FYI: Easter week is technically Disney's most crowded/busiest week...see it could be worse! :rotfl:

we went for 3 days in 2005 that week (the next four were on a cruise)

on Dec 27th we were at the 7 am opening to MK. We did the following attractions before our 1pm lunch reservations at the castle:

dumbo
pooh
indy cars
peter pan
small world
carosel
splash mountain (with fp)
buzz lightyear (2x)
goofy's barnstormer
mickey and minnies houses (met mickey)
picked up fastpasses for philharmagic

Crowds were much thicker after 10:30 or so.

went to castle for lunch.
saw philharmagic

When we left, we could barely walk through the park. my mother was in an ECV.. we had to walk 2 abreast to clear a path for her. I'd compare it to the crowds post WISHES. There were some folks eating a hotdog from Casey's on the sidewalk/curb. WHile we were trying to get everyone back together, the folks on the sidwalk remarked about the crowds. They said they waited in line for 1 hour to get the hotdog.

We left MK and spent the afternoon at the resort swimming and enjoying the resort playground. It was cool outside, but the pool was heated...fine for the kids to splash around. I got a load of laundry done.

Be committed to being there that week and by all means take advantage of the lighter crowds in the morning.

I'll NEVER go back that week.

We came back to see part of the parade that night but I'm telling you it was CROWDED. We decided the kids were tired enough to go back to the resort.

The first two weeks of December are a great time to go. The decorations are up, and the crowds are low. With kids your age, you should give a lot of weight to crowd levels. I posted on another thread you started - be prepared for your kids to want to ride the same rides over and over again. You'd be lucky to make it out of Fantasyland with each ride done once in an entire day if you go the week before Christmas and New Year's.

If you really, really don't want to pull your kids out of school, October break would be better than Christmas week. Although it is a shorter trip, you would probably get more done. October is not value season, either, though and you will see some crowds - Epcot's Food and Wine Festival, Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween parties, and other area's fall breaks all draw the crowds in. It is nowhere near as crowded as Christmas, though!

We have gone the week before and it was great, but as soon as you hit Christmas Day and beyond............forget it!

I agree!

Easter could be beyond PSYCHOTIC and move closer to PSYCHOPATHIC, in my humble opinion.
