Wedding Registry Question

Wow! Thank you everybody so much for your replies! We do have a crock pot, but it was my fiance's dads and is on it's last leg so we will definitely register for one of those. I really appreciate all the unique suggestions, it's the things that we don't think of that I'm after! My fiance said to tell all of you thank you as well, we are trying to finish up as much wedding stuff as possible right now. I went back to school this semester after a year of medical leave, and start my first internship January 13th. (I am an elementary education major and my school requires two internships at the very end of your program.) I am only well enough to do one thing, not school and plan the wedding, so I grab time whenever I have the chance. We really appreciate all the input and any additional suggestions you guys have! Thanks again!

Kitchen Aid stand mixer..... This is my #1
Set of varied size skillets
good set of measuring cups/spoons
heat/serve/store bowls think corning wear/pyrex
a good cutting board
a good set of knives
kitchen shears

I recommend registering for some nice casual china/dinnerware, over the fancy china.

I registered for both. My white Mikasa set (French Countryside) has mostly held up for years, and dresses up or dresses down beautifully. It blends beautifully with all of my fancier flatware and stemware.

On the other hand, my beautiful Lenox china sits in the cabinet. I might have used it once in 16 years? It really was a waste, actually.

I also have tons of crystal stemware - all of the diffent types of wineglasses. Whle they are pretty, they aren't the most practical, especially around kids and dogs. They tip over and shatter very easily.

If I had to do it again, I would have gotten a good number of those stemless wine glasses. Much more practical, IMO.

I also recommend getting very good knives. It makes a huge difference. We had Wustoff for a while, but we actually like our Cutco ones much better.

We do have the fancy Kitchen-Aid mixer, but I really don't use it very often.

I agree with this. If I had it to do over again, I would skip "formal" china and get nice white dishes that could be dressed up or down. With white idshes, you could always get serving pieces (bowls etc) with some pattern if you wanted to be able to change up a little. For example, think of the beautiful CHristmas table you could set with a red tablescloth, white bowls, shiny silver flatware, sparkly wineglasses and some serving bowls with a Christmas motif (think Pfalzgraff Winterberry or something along those lines).

I have formal china that gets used maybe 3 times/year. I have Waterford crystal that I am happy to use, but guests are always nervous about it breaking.

Good heavy stainless flatware. I have used the same flatware for 21 years, and it still looks good.

tupperware for leftovers.

I got married in June of 08 and I registered at 3 different places-- I just wanted to let you know that my best and most stress-free experience was at Bed, Bath and Beyond (the other two were Pottery Barn and Macy's. I also used Target when I registered for the baby, and that was a total nightmare.) BB&B gives you cash when you return things-- so helpful!

Some of the things I constantly use are:
Everyday dishes
Corningware
Pyrex bowl set
hand mixer
crock pot
toaster
knife block, every day silverware
coffee pot
cookie sheets
bedding
bathroom decor (soap pumps, trash cans, etc.)
Dyson vacuum cleaner
measuring spoons/ cups

Some things I don't ever use:
fondue pot
kitchenaid mixer (I know some people use theirs often but I don't, and I can't justify how much was spent on it that could have gone towards more things from the registry.)
bread machine

To answer your question though, I guess the ONE thing I couldn't live without from my registry is either my crock pot, my coffee pot or my Dyson.

Can I borrow your fondue pot-we are doing a fondue for Christmas Eve and I need one more :lmao:

OP, I agree with the others, get a nice set of neutral China-either more casual or fancy depending on your tastes. I used my China a lot, but I got fairly inexpensive ($50/placesetting) so I would have enough. I still like my China but it has a light blue pattern and for non-holiday stuff it is fine. I inherited my Grandma's Currier and Ives red dishes and I use those more than my China now because they work for most holidays.

Also, when you register for dishes, flatware, glasses, etc. register for 12 or more of everything. 8 just isn't enough. We are a family of 5 and if we have one more family over, that puts us over 8.

One thing that doesn't get used all that often but is REALLY handy when we need it is our electric knife. It doesn't take up much room but it is handy for carving a turkey, ham, large roasts, etc.

We have a crock pot but I don't use it all that often. It is handy to have. I would register for one that has the insulated carrying bag because more often then not you will want something to use to transport your crock pot.

I have a lot of Pyrex dishes-the storage ones with lids. I use those every single day.

I also agree with getting a bunch of white towels. They will go with everything and you can bleach them to keep them looking nice. We got some from Land's End for our wedding almost 21 years ago and they STILL look good. Most fancy designer towels aren't worth anything-they fall apart too easily. Get some of the nicer towels from Target. They will last longer and work better.

Don't forget some of the basics like mops/brooms/swiffers. They tend to add up if you have to go buy new. When all of our friends were getting married, this was my go to shower gift, a cleaning bucket with a mop, broom, duster and other cleaning things.

Decent knives are a must. Love the corningware French White...I use it every day. Decent platters/serving pieces, I like white, the Food Network line at Kohls is nice. Pick useful sizes--platter, a couple of bowls. I have aprons and oven mits from Williams Sonoma, used all the time (nearly 20 years now) still in good shape.
