Wedding invitation or announcement?

I am trying to figure out what to put on our invitations. There are only a handful of people coming to our actual wedding, but we are having around 100 at our home reception. So when I order my invitations, should they be more like announcements. I thought of maybe having separate insert cards made for those coming to the actual wedding, but I'm not really sure what I should be doing? Any advice?

We made our invitations so that made the inivitation vs. announcement situation a little easier.

We made actual invitations for the 20 families/couples invited to the wedding. Those were sent out and RSVPs returned already.

We will make announcements to send out to extended family and friends/colleagues the day of or day after our wedding.

I think making announcements and putting an insert in for those invited to the wedding would be a good solution.

This is my plan too. We already sent the (handmade) invitations out to our 18 guests. The day after the wedding, we're mailing announcements with save the dates for the at home reception. We're doing save the dates instead of an actual invitation insert b/c our at home reception won't be for aprox. 4 months after our wedding. So, save the dates, then we'll follow up with actual invitations, but they won't be so formal, since my at home reception is going to be a very casual bbq/picnic. hth.
