My Uncle Mike is marrying his partner, Michael in a few weeks. They are coming up from Florida to have the ceremony here so my Grampy can attend (my grampy is 93 and not in good health, my uncle JUST came out to him and my grampy gave him is blessing so it is kinda a big deal for our family).

Uncle Mike and Michael live in a nice condo in FL near the ocean. They are both pretty successful and they have everything they want/need. I am at a loss as to what to give them for their wedding. I usually give money, but that doesn't seem appropriate here. I also sometimes give couples a nice figurine of a husband and wife (I have gotten Lladro ones before and Willow Tree makes nice ones too, depends on how much money I am spending) however, I have not come across any with two grooms. If all else fails, I think I will get them a really beautiful wedding picture frame (like Lenox or something similar) or a wedding photo album.

I am curious if anyone has any ideas for me.

Do you have any pictures of them from over the years, maybe you can get a digital frame and load the pictures or do some sort of scrapbook.

My first thought was that I'd give them money, like I give all other wedding couples. However, since you said that you don't like that idea for them, what are their interests? Does Lladro or Lenox make a statue that demonstrates their interests?

You can always get them a wedding platter with their names and wedding date on it. Lenox has had nice ones over the years.

If you search under gay wedding statue you'll come up with a number of websites to peruse for gift ideas. Here is one pewter statue I found for a gay wedding couple: http://www.ukgiftgallery.co.uk/wedding-pewter-sculpture-congratulations-tupton-p-704.html I think that statue is nice.

Good luck with your selection. Just because they are a same sex couple, doesn't mean that they don't want the same things a hetero couple wants for their wedding.

I am so glad to see this post, I will be watching for the ideas that are shared. We are going to a wedding this weekend for a friend of ours and he has been with his partner for 20 years, and they are finally able to get married, and like the OP we have no idea what to give as a gift.

Thanks! That sculpture is great... I really want to get them something specific to commemorate their wedding. My uncle would never take money from us kids, I know it. I want something "weddingy" and I was having a hard time finding same sex wedding stuff, but I was looking on the websites for Lladro, Lenox, Willowtree etc. I am google-ing same sex wedding gifts now. I did find a really nice frame with two wedding bands that I like a lot too.

Post this request on the Gay and Lesbian forum. You'll get loads of great ideas over there!

I'm tickled that they have the same first name. Perhaps it was a sign?

When we get married ( we have been together 15 years but I will not do it until it is federally recognised) I would rather people donate to things that are in our life rather than buys us things. Unless what they buy are really personal othewrise I have enough stuff. That is just me though. :confused3

I think the best gift is that you are there supporting them and celebrating a day like that with them! They will love anything you give them.

Michael and Mike, how cute!

Bless your grampy. Growing up in the time he did, that must have been difficult for him, but it shows what a wonderful person he is to accept it.

I think the picture frame sounds nice. Are they taking a honeymoon? Maybe you could give them something to do with that, depending on where they're going? www.gayweddings.com has some cute flip flops that stamp out "Just Married" in the sand.

Best wishes to your uncle and his partner!

I pray that happens soon for you.

If you can't find a statue that you like, can you send something/arrange to their honeymoon location like champagne service or an activity?

For one wedding, we paid for a parasailing adventure. It was something different and memorable.

I just want to say hurray for grampy... pretty cool to be so openminded at 93!!

Congratulations to your uncle and enjoy the wedding!

Thanks. We joke that we will be at least 88 when it happens. We will be using our walkers to get down the aisle. :)

That is a really good idea!

How about tickets to a show they would enjoy or a sporting event they would like? That would be something different and something they could use. The parasailing adventure is a good idea if that is something they would like to do. Since they live in FL, maybe you can buy them a parasailing adventure at WDW if it isn't too far for them.

It's hard to buy a wedding gift for a couple who is already living together and has all of the usual household stuff they need.

I know it won't arrive in time but I have seen the work these folks do and it is wonderful. Send a photo of the couple and get them a custom made cake topper as a special remembrance of their day.
