wedding favors

The only thing I ever recall using are the personalized Matches....since I don't smoke they usually are the only matches I have and they last me a LONG time...each time I use them I think of the happy couple.... :goodvibes

I know they may seem tacky...but they are useful!!

I 've never gotten one ..but I probably would enjoy the CD of the couples fav songs.....

Silver ice cream scoops that were decorated with ribbon
Picture frame

Got a nice ceramic frame that we could then put the thank you card picture inside.

DH and I gave out votive sized candles in holders. I've seen them in several friend's homes, lol-guess it was a good idea.

I just went to a wedding and it was match books and gum/candy cigars with just married and the name of bride & groom and date..

I have enjoyed when a card was placed at my seat that said:

"In lieu of favors, the wedding couple has made a donation in your name to xxx charity." I plan on doing that for the American Red Cross for my sister's baby shower. Nobody needs another candle, candy, matchbook, or other chatchke. I'd rather send the $200 to the Red Cross.

I just wanted to edit this to add that DH and I gave "nip" sized bottles of amaretto and zambuca with ribbons and almonds attached! I'm not against favors, I'm just more realistic in my old age.

My DD had personalized CDs of their favorite songs. One CD per family. Cost about $30.00 for 50. :bride: :groom:

I just went to a wedding last weekend where the favor was a shot glass imprinted with the couple's names and the date of the wedding, with a few pieces of candy (they made their own labels for one of them), and it was in a cute little transluscent bag.

A lot of people in Hawaii find nice laquered chopsticks. One of the more unique versions of the chopstick favor was one that had a small box of local candies wrapped in a cloth, with the chopsticks stuck thru it.

Another unique one was a small acrylic magnetic frame with an artist's rendering of the bridal couple, with the date of the wedding. The artist is a very close friend of ours.

Yet another (but this was for a pretty small wedding, about 70-80 guests), was upon checkin, we received an envelope, the size of a CD envelope. In it was a CD with a floral pattern on it, and it was filled with the couple's favorite songs. There was also a little program in it that included the menu, and the couple's thank you's and family names.

we are getting married in march & have yet to decide on our favors i keep switching ideas but we have compromised to donations in honor of our guests & marriage along with a small favor.

some of the favorite favors weve received are edible like custom m&ms, caramel apples, custom chopsticks & fortune cookies, small bottles of wine and tequila from a wedding in mexico. also a compilation cd, mini eiffel tower my bridesmaid had a dw in paris, donations in lieu of favors, marigolds in alittle gold box for there cultural significance to the newlyweds, candles. there really are endless favor ideas.

Not to hijack a thread, but I had never heard of customized M&M's...went to the site....HOW NEAT!!! I'm now looking for a reason to order some. :Pinkbounc

We got married the Weekend after Thanksgiving so we used porcelin cherub ornaments with our names and dates on them for the women and homeade chocolate firetruck candy for the men....every time I am at someones house during the holidays I see our ornament on the tree.

I think my favorite was a Yankee candle...the ones I don't like are the glasses with the couples name etched in them..those usually get tossed away, I have no room for more glasses, especially ones with other peoples names on them LOL. Also I liked the printed boxes filed with truffles that my friend had at hers... I know she got them at www.chocolatebydesigninc.com

I ordered these customized M&M's recently for my son's graduation from High School. They were so cool - They were in his school colors and one color said "Congrats Mike" and the other color said "Class of 2005". They aren't cheap, but they sure are cute! They do offer a wedding mix.

We ddi welcome bags that were filled with supplies. I don't know if anybody liked them but it was fun for us to put together.

My two favorites have to be the personalized cd of songs that were played at the reception (included the couple's wedding song along with both set of parents' songs) and the deck of cards. We have gotten more than our money's worth out of those cards. They were in the wedding colors (blue with silver writing) and just had the couple's name and wedding date on them

ditto on both counts (but we gave wine nips)

CD's, IMO, are the worst. yes they are easy to make, and affordable...but not everyone likes your taste in music. JMO!

ETA..
IMO - anything edible is good. Wine/nips and chocolate...all huge hits (or - as my brother said - wine for the ride home. hehe)

For our wedding we had HerTHEYare Chandy bars (Hershey actually with custom wrappers) and bottle of white zin. with personalized labels on them... they were a HUGE hit!

I like the charitable donation thing or something edible. The CD isn't bad either, but if it's not your taste in music then it's kind of a waste.

The picture frames, candle holders etc are just more things to collect dust in my house.

I'd probably like a fridge magnet too, since I collect those!

We received an ornament with hershey kisses inside at the last wedding we went to (last thanksgiving). Ate the kisses, but still have the ornament- just doesn't look as nice
I think favors are a nice gesture, but not necessary.

I like something edible if there are favors. Knicknacks--if I have to take them home, I generally throw those away or put in garage sale. Guess I'm not really sure why there needs to be favors at all, but that is just me.
