Hi Girls

I need someone to steam my dress the day before my wedding along with the Tuxes and bridesmaid dresses... Is it Carolyn Allen who can do this for me?

and how does this work and whats the number for a good steamer..

Thanks girls:thumbsup2

I'm using Carolyn Allen. She's coming to the room the afternoon before the wedding and doing all the BMs dresses and mine :thumbsup2

Most people use Carolyn Allen for in-room dress steaming, although I believe Absolutely Fitting will also come to your room for steaming.

If you also get your tuxes from Carolyn Allen, they will be steamed before they are delivered to your room. Otherwise, I'm sure CA can give you a quote to steam tuxedos you brought with you.

Wedding gown steaming runs $80-$100 depending on fabric content and dress style. You can fill out the form on CA's website to arrange for steaming, or call them:

Let me know if you need more info! :)

Oh wow.... Christina, just make sure you leave enough time for someone too steam that beautiful cathedral train... it might take awhile... :goodvibes ;)

We used carolyn Allen's for all the tuxes. She also came to our room and steamed all of my items and all of my bridesmaids dresses etc.

I actually purchased an $80 steamer and am going to steam my own dress and bridesmaids dresses. I figured it would save everyone a bundle... I have purchased some fabric that my dress and the girls dresses are made out of just to practice on. Steam doesn't burn clothes :)

No kidding...I dont know...i guess I am wicked cheap but I cant imagine paying someone the amount of money that they are asking when I can do it myself and save my girls some money too...I mean I've already asked them to fly from Maine to Florida, pay for their food, rooms, park passes and their dresses...lol! If I could afford to pay to have it done for everone I absolutly would...but my goodness the $10,000 minimum is killing me as it is...lol

We used Absolutely Fitting's steaming service and they were fabulous (and in 2006 I believe cheaper than Carolyn Allen's).

Can someone tell me the cost of Carolyn Allen's services?

Wedding Dress-
Maid of Honor Dress-
Tuxes-
Mothers of the Bride dress.

Also, how much to have your dress shipped there and stored until the wedding?

Thank you :)

Here are the prices I know:

Wedding Dress Steaming: $80-$100

Tux Rental: We got the budget model and it was $120. The same tux would have run us $80 in Los Angeles, so there is a markup. However, you can think of it as the delivery fee, since CA will bring the tuxes to you for a fitting and then bring them back altered the day of/before the wedding.

Dress Storage: $15 plus the cost of shipping. This is really a bargain. You pay to ship the dress to CA (mine cost $25ish FedEx) and then CA bills you for the cost of return shipping (mine was $35 UPS). But the experience of having my dress delivered and picked up for me (instead of schlepping it on the plane) was priceless!

I've been married for almost 9 months now so I don't know if prices have changed - but Carolyn Allen's charged me $65 to steam my dress.

I had no idea about this being neccesary until I found these boards. I have a steamer. How hard would it be you think?

It depends - some commercially available steamers don't put out enough steam to really get through heavy fabrics, so you may have to go over and over the area.

But the real consideration is, will you have time to steam your dress? We had so many other errands and last-minute preparations in the days leading up to the wedding that it was worth the money for me to pay somebody to do this for me! :)

I'm with Val - it seems like it would save a ton of dough -- but if its not going to work right or i'm going to be doing it for 3 hours, i'll pass...

We had Carolyn Allen and had the dress steamed twice. She did the flowergirls and my dress and jr bridesmaid dresses before the rehearsal. She also came early in the morning to steam it for my MK photo shoot. During the dancing at the reception my bustle that was sewn in with snaps (DON'T DO THIS, USE TIES INSTEAD), she was willing to come out and sewed it back together for me before our dessert party which was MUCH appreciated. One the way down the hall to catch the towncar, Leif stepped on my dress and ripped the sewing out. Can I say not to have them sew the plastic snaps in again? =)
