Ok- as the new year is appraoching- I am going to begin my diet. I am almost 5'9 and am about a size 10 in regular clothes (though they are tightening w/ the the holidays) and I would like to be no bigger than a wedding gown 10 in my wedding. I know people always say do not get hung up on size, but that is when I feel best, I a may need to lose 20 pounds and I have until Nov 10 to do so. What have some of you done? I do exercise - I am a grad student, taking classes w/ and internship and a teaching assistantship where I teach 2 courses. I am extremely busy and my hours are long. I also typically am not able to eat since I am on the go....help!
Also I do have migraine headaches and threw up McDondals, so I will probably stay away from that for a while, but I am trying to stay away from greasy food and caffeine.
Thanks-
Happy Holidays!

Hey!
I am kind of in the same boat. I had lost a bunch of weight without even trying, and now that the holidays have come and gone have put more than I wanted to back on. My co-workers and I are doing weight watchers together. The best part is you can do it solely online if you are way too busy, and they even hold meetings at 7:00 AM for those who have odd schedules. I would also suggest to pick a buddy to help you meet your goal, my friend will constantly nag me about "points" if I eat a cookie. And having someone constantly asking me to go to the gym with her is ... ummm... nice! I work and go to school full time so I understand that it's sometimes hard to eat right. The best part of the program has been writing everything I eat down to keep track of points, I honestly didn't know I had been snacking so much until I started writing everything down.

Best of luck losing the weight, I'm sure you're going to look beautiful no matter what!
Ashley

Im the same, i really want to loose some weight before my wedding, and tone up a bit too! My prob is each time i start a diet my fiance always says "why are you dieting you look beautiful now" which is sweet but doesnt help lol. Think i need to set myself a goal this year and really stick to it!

I'm going back on WW this week. I have about 15 lbs to lose prior to May....

Without a doubt, Weight Watchers. If you combine WW w/ regular exercise, the pounds will disappear :)

WEIGHT WATCHERS ALL THE WAY....i lolst 60 lbs w/ ww and while it is not a miracle loose 60 lbs in 2 days type of diet it teaches sensibility and is something you can live with. I also suffer from sever migraines and eating poorly is worst thing i could do. When I eat balanced and STAY AWAY from sugar it helps...yoga has also helped me reliebe stress which I find contributes to my migraine (thank goid finals are over lol).

Good Luck :sunny:

I am thinking of going on weight watchers. I want to lose at least 70 pounds by my december trip. I hope I can do it!

I've heard weight watchers works well. I've done South Beach, and I intend start it right after this half gallon of ice cream in my freezer is gone. I lost 12 pounds in one month, and I am 5'7" and weighed 148lbs. About a size 10.

With regard to being a wedding dress size. You do know that they are bigger than street clothes. I'm a size 8 right now and I tried on a wedding dress that was a size 12, and it was too tight. It depends on the maker of the dress. Do not get hung up on wedding dress sizes. They put you so tight in them, no one can tell the size anyway.

My fiance did South Beach and loved it! He did it mostly to get rid of his headaches and dizzyness, but he lost a decent amount of weight too. I didn't think he needed to lose it, buy he wanted to get back to the weight he was when he was a defencive back for the football team in highschool (4 years ago). It worked, he was only 3 pounds off (ended up being 168 and he is 5'9, lots of muscle)! His doctor also recommended doing it as it taught him how to eat and new recipes to try!

I have a post about losing weight over at the WISH boards and someone mentioned Weight Watchers. Just wondering- (not meaning to jump in on the thread but you girls know a lot!) About how much is common to loose per month on Weight Watchers? Is there like an average (example of 1-3 pounds a month) or something to gauge if it's working or not? TIA!

the stress diet worked really well...

LOL um, yeah. seriously, I lost about 10 lbs. in a month or so. Not the healthiest thing to do, so I don't recommend it. Prior to that, I had been keeping a food journal and calorie counting, running 2-3x a week during lunch with a bit of aerobics just for kicks. I would have loved to exercise more, but it's difficult! You do have a lot of time if you start now, so be safe and healthy! :) good luck!

im also in the need to lose weight diet boat, i would like to lose about 20 before my march wedding. ive been struggling with my weight this past year since ive had some health problems. any other suggestions or specific diet/exercises besides weight watchers, im trying to lose weight without spending extra money this close to my wedding. thanks.

Hey allisonswonderland,

I am getting married in October of 2006...and have a schedule much like yours. I am a teacher and taking graduate courses at night. I lost quite a bit of weight not by following any diet, but healthy eating in general and setting up a must follow routine. My hours are long...so in order to help myself out I did the following.

1st - Find a time to work out and make it "YOUR TIME"...don't make excuses to break this. It is hard when you first start, but the routine helps. I try to work out 4 nights a week for one hour. I bought a tredmill and workout video because I have zero time to travel to and from a gym. My days change each semester with my classes, but I always work out from 8pm to 9pm. Seems late, but it works for me! There is no way I will get up early to work out!

2nd - Eating healthy. It is sooo hard when you are on the go. I got myself one of those large lunch boxes and pre-made my lunches and dinners when I am out for the week. I usually make a bunch of brown rice, grilled chicken, salad, and other various snacks...including air popped popcorn, pretzles, fruit, and nuts. I basically do all of this on Saturday or Sunday for the busy week ahead. I don't follow any diet fad, especially atkins...your body needs healthy carbs..especially if you work out.

3rd - Green tean and water...It is all I drink except for defac. coffee or non-fat starbucks drinks when I want a treat.

4th - Fat free ice cream. Dreyers makes a wonderful chocholate fudge ice cream that is fat free with no extra sugar added. This really takes away my sweet tooth!

5th - I looked up all the best options at fast food restaurants incase I ever get stuck on the go and have no other choice. I know what to order at burger king, Mcdonalds, Wendys, and other places that will keep the fat content down! I also use Subway as a great place to go for a fast meal. The turkey sandwich with wheat bread and tons of veggies is yummy. I always get vingegar with NO oil. To me it tastes the same!

6th - I give myself one bad meal a month. I plan for this bad meal and go ALL OUT. I usually will do something like a burger with fries AND onion rings and a milkshake. It really helps me enjoy that terrible food as the more when I can plan on having it. :)

I started at 135 and went down to 105 by following these things...(back in 2002). I am now up to about 115 because of the holidays and not following my diet over the holidays and being home all day. This happens just about every year! I plan to be back to my regular weight for my wedding in October..actually I hope it happens before then. My dress is a size 6 and I am normally a size 2 or 4. I know it would be a little tight on me now, luckily I have time before it even comes in. :)

Good luck!

On that note, I didn't really need to lose weight for my wedding (although it is always a challenge just to maintain) but I did want to tone up, especially my upper body, but just generally too! My dh really didn't understand that--like yours--but I started using a personal pilates trainer and the results were amazing! It was worth every penny and I have continued it for now. I weigh exactly the same but TONS of people ask me if I am losing weight and I think it is just from being more tone and having more muscle, less flab.

Allison,
I am in the same boat as you; I refuse to order a dress larger than a size 10 so I've got some weight to lose as well. My normal size is 10, but I'm much shorter than you. I have a sit down job and its very hard for me to do a lot of exercising since I have asthma. I'm going to do a lot of walking to try to lose it. Anyway, I've also got migraine headaches and have noticed that they are worse when I eat greasy food and don't have caffeine. So I completely understand how you feel. Good luck!

I followed the Body for Life program created by Bill Phillips and lost about 15 lbs of bodyfat and gained about 5 lbs of muscle. It was great. I always had energy... now, I fell off the wagon... between finals and Disneyworld for Christmas and New Years.... I feel like a cow, even though I only gained about 5 lbs... but when my favorite cargo pants are tight, it's not a good day... so , I have 11 1/2 months til my wedding... tough time of year to get married... I will really have to stick to my plan.... but knowing I already have my gown will make me stick to the program. :sunny: I always feel better after a jog or swimming (which will be a regular part of my routine now due to my future job at Sea World) and lifting weights. I feel better and get more accomplished in a day without being exhausted. good luck in whatever you do. Don't follow a fad diet. Do what feels good to you and remember to take baby steps. A good routine will take a few weeks to see the results - you have to build up the momentum... :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I just bought the book Bridal Bootcamp. I read the whole thing right away and really like what I hear. It has 6 mo, 3 mo, 1 mo, etc plans to get you to the big day. Plus menus and work out routines. I haven't started on it yet as I Just got it and need to go shopping. I work 12 hour days - 1 hour from home - so I'm gone 14 hours a day. Makes eating healthy Really hard. BUT - this book gives so many good ideas!!

I also just bought the Bridal Bootcamp book! How funny =) I am going to start next week. DF says he will do it with me, but just increase the weight for his routine. It should be really fun. Good luck!
