I’m assuming the rope drop strategy is to go via the AC entrance on Buena Vista Street? Is there a side of the crowd to be on? Thanks!

The AC entrance is on the left, so you will want to be on the left side of the crowd. Once you enter the AC stay to the left as well. Have a great trip!

In August 2012 dr matrix created a thread for RSR The Cars Land Wide Right Technique.
It went for 13 pages until Dec 11, 2013.

Would anyone with experience of Rope Drop for WEB Slingers care to give additional details (if there are any) of the best strategy to keep to the front of the line crowd?
Something similar to the "Wide Right Technique"...

Correct on left side of rope at the end of Buena Vista (Carthay Circle area). For Radiator Springs, it’s the right side. CM’s escort each forward at rope drop. Webslingers escort makes the left turn into Avengers Campus to ride queue and Radiator Springs Racers continues into Cars Land, following right side of Route 66 to its ride queue. Enter park right at turnstile opening, (usually entry starts 30 minutes prior to rope drop), for better results.

So what if we'll be coming from the Grand Californian? Will we be at a disadvantage? What should our strategy be? Route, etc?

Thanks! We haven't been to DL, DCA for 7 years and are in need of some guidance.

Coming out from the hotel, left turn, walk through Grizzly Peak Airfield (by Soaring) to that Carthay Circle rope. Hopefully they let hotel guests in at same time as front gate or earlier. No disadvantage. If Pixar pier is your morning priority turn right out of hotel and go to rope at Little Mermaid.

DO NOT use the GCH entrance. The line usually backs up quite far and can take a while to get through.

Take the DTD entrance to Front Gate.
They usually open up the DTD entrance before 7am.
Arrive at the GCH security area for DTD by 645am.
You should be one of the first at the gates to DCA. Just queue up so that you are one of the first to be scanned.
As soon as you go through the turnstiles beeline it to the rope drop area between Carthay and the Grizzly River waterfall.
Try to stay as close to the left as you can but more important to be touching the rope
When the rope drops head to Avengers Campus and Web Slingers.

Note: You would have spent over an hour of your time, doing the above.
Your wait may be the same if you just wait to experience the attraction later in the day.
My opinion is that Racers is the one to go to first.

If you are staying at Grand Cal and want to rope drop Webslingers, I recommend using the main entrance. During my trip in October, Grand Cal guests were not allowed in until the official park opening. We saw guests heading to Avengers Campus and Cartland as were were heading to Pixar Pier from the Carthay Circle rope drop.

I was the first guest in the queue one morning. We were at the left of the Carthay Circle rope, but not quite on the edge so didn’t have to try to go around trash cans. We stuck close to the CM who was controlling the pace (the farthest left CM) and then started a conversation with him. Ended up following him right into and through the queue to the door. The line built super quickly behind us!

That’s unfortunate information on how they are currently not utilizing that hotel gate prior to rope drop. Can only hope perhaps the magicband+ system recognizes parties on a DLR reservation and get that entrance opened earlier.

But at least this way you’re waiting before the park opens and not sacrificing time that could be spent on other rides

Revisiting this topic:
1. How long is the GCH entrance delayed vs. main entrance?
2. Any advantage from this entrance at all-for anything?
3. How much further of a walk to main entrance?
4. If using the GCH entrance and not ILL what is best strategy for either Web Slingers or Radiator Springs Racers?

I tested this with a couple friends last month. I was at the main entrance and they went from the Grand Californian. They actually got let in about 30 seconds earlier than rope drop on my side but I was able to get in the first pre-show at Web Slingers while they hit a posted 1 hour wait with the line spilling out the front of Avengers Campus. They went to Racers instead so I don't know if it was actually an hour wait.

The Grand Californian entrance has an advantage for Pixar Pier and Grizzly River Run. The disadvantage for Soarin' is negligible and the disadvantage for Racers is minor assuming you are one of the first people in line there. If using this entrance, you should save Web Slingers for later in the day. If you are willing to do Single Rider at Racers, then skip it in the morning and start with Soarin', Grizzly River Run or Midway Mania. If things go well, you could do all the rides of Pixar Pier in the first hour before crowds even get there. If you don't want to do single rider, then you make a mad dash for Racers and hope that you aren't too far behind.
