Weather

I hope the weather picks up for all of you guys out there at the minute! :wizard:

We went in October last year and was due to have a bridal shoot on the 8th of October. It rained so bad that we had to cancel and it continued raining heavy all day. We grabbed our ponchos and headed to the Magic Kingdom. It was quite quiet and I think all rides were operating. Queues were minimal so there were positives to the rain.

We went to Epcot the very same night because there was no way I was giving up my ressie at Le Celliers! It was very quiet there too so don't dispare when it rains, the queues for rides are shorter and some people don't make it to their ressies so you get in quicker lol ;)

Hope you all enjoy your trips! x

have been going every year for the past 20 years, and most in aug, have been in may/June/July as well. And i can tell you that your guaranteed rain at some time during the day from the beginning off June.
1st june the start of the hurricane season, and the humidity kicks in from that date(its like a switch is turned on overnight) usually you will get a short storm and never last long.these tend to be at the same time everyday
next you can get a tropical storm.to me these are worse than a hurricane as they can linger for days just dumping lots of rain.Just like the weather in the uk at moment
next up is the hurricanes there not as bad as they sound as usually there fast moving and when there gone they take the bad weather with them, when they have past
Florida is set up for these events,we have the old yellow mickey macs we have in the car ready in case.always fun in the parks a they get loads out to sell the minute a drop comes down. Then 1/2 an hour later people rolling them up.
Like others have said its set up for bad weather so plan it in to your day

and here was me saying to my lot don't worry debby is only a TS:eek: Not sure I can completely agree after seeing what Ivan did to cayman and andrew to florida.

Ponchs at the ready .

I know we will still have fun. I'm getting to see my eldest for a whole 2 weeks, she been away at uni and is now working away for the summer:cheer2: I don't care if its wet as long as the damage for the people living there is not to bad.

I was there this time of year in 2009 and it was terrible weather most days! It'd be bright and sunny one minute and the next a big black cloud would appear out of nowhere and drown us when there was no cover around!

My advise would be take water proofs (and possibly spare shoes)! You'll still get good weather, you'll just get a bit wet too.

You tend not to get too many hurricanes in Orlando as they tend to lose force once they hit land but obviously it does happen. As you say they usually are fast moving as well...We got stuck in hurricane frances about 8 years ago. I remember it well because we came in on the tail end of hurrican Charley then got stuck with Frances, which by the time it hit WDW was a Cat 4, but this one was huge in area and very slow moving. It was the size of the uk and we got stuck in our rooms for 3 days and told that if the windows blew in that we were to move into the bathroom and stay put until somebody came to get us!!! This was also one of the very rare times that they closed WDW. The day they re-opened we went to Epcot and were outnumbered by cast members...it was totally empty and we were often the only people walking around the countries and the weather was fab from that point on..bliss!:)

i dont mean parks close but IOA for example when it rained last time it was open but no rides could run in the rain (which makes it pointless going when the rain is non stop AM & PM) thats what im saying !
Local theme parks don't generally close rides due to rain only...lightning is the main problem. Anytime there is a strike within five miles of the park, the rides close. However...if it's a "gutter washer" it's a pretty safe bet the outdoor rides will close. Riding a coaster in the rain is painful!

You will not need winter clothes - it is still in the 80s despite the rain.
Heck no...don't wear anything heavy! Our storms in the summer tend to make the temps even more miserable with the increased humidity. If you wore anything heavy, you'd pass out from heat stroke.

OK - I have it from someone who lives in Orlando that the weather is set to get back to normal over the weekend :thumbsup2
It's raining today but it's a light rain. The problem with watching forecasts is not every area gets rain/storms during the day so take the forecasts with a grain of salt. Anything over 36 hours is not to be trusted or worried about and please...use local websites for a more accurate forecast.

The amount of rain obviously depends on the size of the storm so even if a storm is off shore like Hurricane Jean was in 2004, the rain will keep coming...and it did...day after day after day.

I'm here now and its raining hard. We went out and spent the whole first part of the day in the rain. We bought ponchos and made the most of it! The ride lines as well as lines to see the characters were so short! We were in MK and they did cancel the main show. But we took a break to come back to the hotel and let the kiddos dry off a bit. We have reservations in Epcot so we're going there in a little while. If it were just me and the hubs, we would play in the rain all day...but with an 11 month old, we need to give her a break from the rain even though she was being a GREAT sport!

So depressed!!! We too are going out on 4th July and had been hoping for the usual hot and sunny followed by an afternoon thunder storm, not full days of miserable rain.......which is what we were hoping to escape!
Please, please get better soon!!

Plan for the rain but it wnt rain the whole time.
Lots of luck sent to you.

I wouldn't panic just yet. This drenching all day rain is caused by TS Debby in the Gulf. It's supposed to rain most of Monday and Tuesday before the storm finally moves away from Florida. After Tuesday, rain chances drop from 90% to 40% or lower for the rest of the week. This is not typical Florida weather.

I would normally say that it rains for a few hours and then it all dries up.
However the rain has been on since before we got up at 6.30am and as of now (8.15pm) it has not let up. It is the most rain we have ever seen in 3 years.

We blew out going to a park today as even walking from the room to the car meant we were soaked thru. Noticed a few hardly souls braving the parks with ponchos.

Sorry for being slightly negative but best to be prepared. One model forecast is saying the rain/tropical storm will be in force until the end of the week.

Local Tampa TV weather is forecasting that if this storm does not move by Wednesday, we could get up to 30 inches of rain in our metro area. I did not see a forecast for any sunshine until this coming Saturday. We are now in our rainy season and that usually means showers every day in the afternoon, but we will also again be at the mercy of any future hurricanes or storms that approach Florida. In a nutshell, be prepared for wet weather until late November. Unfortunately, we have experienced loss of life due to the tornadoes that this storm has produced.
