Weather wimps now re-thinking Nov./Dec. plan

My DS and DBIL went in late Jan this year, and, yes, they reported that it was cooler in the evenings than we have experienced during the Oct trips we have taken ... BUT ... they were so pleased by the lack of crowds that it far outweighed the chill. DBIL kept saying as he showed his pictures, "LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE!"! Of course he was being sarcastic, as the castle in the background looked abandoned! FL was also experiencing an unusual cold snap, too. They say they would go back in a heartbeat at that time of year, and as a matter of fact, we will be going as a family Dec 2006 (4-11). Beat the crowd ... just bring a sweatshirt. Us fellow Minnesnowtans can take it!

I have to say I'm in the same shoes. We went twice in May the second time was a heat wave I believe it even hit 100 one day! Now I loved May the heat doesn't bother me but the rest of my family hates the heat and I am a Christmas nut so I thought we'd try the week after Thanksgiving. But after reading about the unpredictable weather I too have been getting cold feet and getting pretty down thinking I made a mistake we should just go in May again but then I have no PS made ugh!! So I'm feeling better after reading some of these posts but would love more reassuring!!

I checked weather Underground and it looks like the temps have been in the 70's which sounds good to me. Is it true that 70's feels colder at WDW?

Has anyone done the water parks at this time?

We're doing both.

Long trip with friends the first week of August, short commando trip the first weekend in December.

We went last October and it was FABULOUS! Brilliant weather every day, absolutely fabulous. But the school district threatened to prosecute me for truancy violations with DS9 so we really shouldn't do that again.

We went for MLK weekend in 2005 and the weather was a mixed bag. At least in December if the weather is crummy we can go around the resorts and see the decorations.

I checked annual temperatures in Nov/Dec last year and it said 70's and it was no where near the 70's, but it was great. I think 70's does feel cooler at WDW. Maybe because I'm expecting 80's . When we were there last December we were on the bus to go to the Marketplace and it stopped at Typhoon Lagoon and there was one family standing there shivering to death at park closing and they had stayed all day in cloudy upper 50's lower 60's weather. Of course their kids didn't seem to mind it at all.

Just BE PREPARED. That is very important. If you only bring one sweater just in case it gets "cool", you'll be up a creek when it's cooler all week (like I was), and you have one sweater and a bunch of 3/4 length sleeve shirts and T-shirts. As long as you're prepared for both warm and cool weather you should be fine.

And the night of MVMCP, was freezing. I layered as many shirts as I could and borrowed one of my mom's sweatshirts. That helped but I would have been so much happier with a heavier sweater, light jacket, and gloves. Especially when you're sitting just watching the parades and shows.

Just wanted to offer a different opinion than everybody here. I don't think I'll ever go in December again. I was not *that* blown away by the decorations or the other holiday-esque things to make up for the colder weather. I am from California and I thought it was pretty cold. We rarely took off our long sleeve sweaters during the day, and at night (especially at MVMCP) we really had to bundle up. We were still able to swim, but had to 'suffer' getting in and out of the pool. To me that is not a WDW vacation. I wanted to rent mice boats, go to the water parks, and wear shorts, but it was just too cold. There was one day when we took one of the boats from the MK over to the GF, and it was so cold I thought I would die. Ok, I'm being melodramatic, but it was kind of miserable. It was still a great trip, but I prefer going when it's warmer. Not necessarily August, but May might be nice. Although I do love a Floridian thunder storm.

I guess I would say it depends on what kind of trip you want to have. If you love to swim and go to Blizzard Beach, I'd change your dates. If you generally just park tour, then the weather is great.

FWIW, it was in the mid to high 60's during most of our trip. One day it broke 70. Oh, also we were able to ride Splash Mountain. It wasn't *that* cold. But we didn't like getting wet on it like we do in warmer times.

The whole thread was full of positive things to say!

If you can handle wearing jeans and sweatshirts in WDW, you'll be fine! I just missed wearing shorts and tanks and swimming whenever I wanted. I did not miss the bugs, however! Far fewer in December!

Disney has a new policy. They have turned down the heaters on their pools, and they are really too cold for swimming in the winter months.

Makes the parks more enjoyable, without the high temps.
