Hi all,

We will be arriving June 8 for a few days stay. I am checking the weather and I see high's in the 60's right now (!!) and looking out the highs are mid 70's. We are from the midwest and I have to admit that I thought it would be a little warmer in southern California for June (it's 82 here right now in the midwest!). Can anybody tell me what it is like in early June? Does 75 feel warm enough to swim out there? We have only been one time before and it was in July. The weather was just perfect. I think it was 82 and sunny--a welcome change of pace from the heat and humidity of Florida but I am a little concerned about whether we will make it to the pool and should I re-think packing shorts?

I can only speak for Northern CA, but this weather is NOT normal! Yesterday our high was 69 and today it's only going to be 70, we are usually close to the 90's by this time of year. I would still pack shorts if I were you. When the high is mid 70's it feels more like mid 80's in the parks because of all the bodies and cement.

Yeah, what dismom73 said. I'm N. Cali too and just today the weatherman was commenting on how May average temps are high 70s. I swear ... I don't think we've hit high 70's once this month! And we're running out of days...

Pools ... depends on where you're staying. We stayed at the DLH in October and it was very mild sunny weather, mid-70s. The pool was still very pleasant to hang out by and the water was warm.

Clothing - you should be fine with shorts, just make sure to bring a pair of pants/jeans and a sweatshirt (just in case) and you should be prepared.

It is all because of global warming. I was in Michigan last week and they said it has been really cool this spring. Same thing in Colorado where I live. The thing you have to understand about global warming is that it explains both warming and cooling trends. It also explains cases where the temperature stays the same. It basically explains everything. It is an amazing area of science of which I am obviously highly skeptical.

Ridging!! High ridge is starting to set in. Say good bye to the cool temps here in So Cal. Summer is coming and temps will probably be in the 80's and possibly low 90's.

What you've gotta understand about SoCal weather, is that 70 will feel WARM. Not hot, not humid, but nice and warm.

65 in the dark will feel COLD. lol

Exactly. Right now, where I am in SoCal, it is a gorgeous, sunny day with beautiful blue skies. There are no clouds in sight, so nothing for the sun to really burn off. 70 degrees (if that's what the current temperature is) will feel warm outside. It's nice and comfortable. And in DLR, where crowds are packed in all over the place, a 70-degree day (or even a 65-degree day) will feel even warmer.

By the way, OP - "May Gray" and "June Gloom" are not atypical or unusual in SoCal. That's why we have nicknames like those - because this does happen in Los Angeles or inland Orange County (like Anaheim) regularly enough to call attention to it. The real high heat doesn't begin to come until (sometimes) July and (usually) August and September.

That said, the temperatures are supposed to go up to the 80's by this weekend, so I think we are just having short periods of cooler temps here and there but things will be summer-like in no time.

Hi! I'm in So. Cal. While I can't predict the weather, I can tell you what's happening out here now. It's absolutely gorgeous outside. Blue sky, sunshine. There is a nice breeze which makes it not too hot (very nice to have), and that is probably what is keeping the official temperature down. It was ridiculously windy on Sunday.

Looking at the weather forecast into the next few days, the high is in the 80s everyday from Saturday on.

June can be a little odd in So. Cal, but generally, the mornings will probably be overcast and sort of "yucky." When that burns off, the day will be gorgeous, sunny, and make you want to move to So. Cal. The evenings can then dip back down again and be a bit chilly (as summer moves on, the summer nights stay warm).

As lorasmom's pointed out, however, your 82 and our 82 will feel very different. No humidity, muggy, just plain sunshine.

I would pack a variety because June weather covers the highs and lows over the course of a few days, but don't leave behind the swimsuits, shorts and tshirts. You'll use them.

yes! The key is layers!! Like a tank and capris, with a light sweater. Because once that sun goes down, it's downright chilly!!

Disney Dreams - I have had that happen a lot too! :rotfl2: I am busy typing away, laying out all the info, and then by the time it finally posts (sometimes it takes forever for the page to load), I see that someone else posted with much or all of the same info!!:rotfl2: Oh well, I guess comes with the message board territory!

Yes, we both have the same SoCal perspective and first-hand accounts!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I think this ridge maybe sticking around for a while. Hopefully it'll breakdown and we'll have our normal June gloom, but the models aren't suggesting that:

You will certainly want to swim. Almost all the pools are heated and the sunshine is gorgeous. It was very cool Sunday and windy. We swam in the DLH pool with a bunch of people and stayed in for 3 hours. Come on in, the water's fine!

Yup. Last year we were in Anaheim for a week mid-July for the firefighter olympics. We had a blast, but whoa - it was hot. Walking down Harbor back to the Sheraton - thought I was gonna have heat stroke  Not sure I would do a July-Aug trip again, by choice

I'm with you! I used to do to DL all the time for my birthday (in July) when I was much younger. At some point, I couldn't take it anymore - the heat made me ill every year and ruined half of my trip. Why put myself through that agony? I finally decided to start going during nice, cooler months - around Halloweentime and Christmastime, and fell in love with those seasons!!:thumbsup2

Looks like the OP got plenty of advice, but I'll add mine too: yesterday in N. Cal it rained all day and it was very cold. Today is breezy with some sun and tomorrow is supposed to rain again. After tomorrow's rain it is supposed to get nice and warm. So. Cal is usually warmer than us so I'm sure the weather will nice down there.
This is pretty typical for an El Nino year. I remember in '98, an El Nino year, it rained on my daughters birthday in June.

June is typically our gloomiest month, hence the saying 'june gloom' for our weather. It is typically cloudy and misty in the mornings and it will burn off by mid day and be warm....
You need to keep in mind that this is not Florida and we don't have humidity so it will feel cool/cold at night even tho it's summer!
A lot of my friends that visit from MN always laugh when I tell them it will be cold at night and they think 'aw well I'm from MN, I know cold" but then they get here and they are indeed cold. I think it's the ocean air.
It will be fine....it won't rain...and you will see sun....and you will have a wonderful time!! :dance3:
Have a ton of fun!!

One more thing...YES you should pack shorts......your going on vacay!!!!! :rotfl:

Thanks all--you have given great advice! I am also getting a little perspective today here in Chicago. It's probably 75 or so, but I have been in shorts all day and it feels pretty warm. I do hope CA gets out of its cooling trend soon though! To HydroGuy...I agree...:rotfl2:

Here is the latest update for the weather:

During the day... plenty of light... becoming darker as the day progresses, then at night it will be dark, becoming even darker until it becomes light again.
;)
