Hey guys,
Wondering how the weather might be this time of year? I'm sure it varies but wondering typically how cold it might get in the parks after the sun goes down. What to pack? Thanks!

We've been in January several times. One year it was short sleeves and capris, DH and DS wore shorts most days, then last January we had a cold winter and I wore a jacket most of the time. The daytime is usually fine when the sun is out but evenings were chilly. Relatively speaking - we live in the south so 50 degrees is VERY chilly for us. It sounds like we are going to have a cold winter again next year so I would recommend you pack layers - sweatshirts and short sleeves. We actually bought gloves last year too for the nights. and swimmming for us was definitely out in January - they say the pools are heated but not nearly warm enough for us!

NO NO NO, don't say that. :scared1:

This will be our first January visit. We've been in July, October, November and December but not January. We are bringing my whole family with us this year for a grand gathering. One of my concerns was how cold it will be. Will it be much colder than it has been for us when we visited early December?

Unfortunately, I think it will definitely be colder in January than in December. In SC, we had a perfect December last year - Christmas Day I was wearing jeans and a short sleeved shirt, no jacket, outside all day. Then January came and I was bundled up all month. Someone from Florida posted something recently about the weather next January being particularly cold because of some El Nino thing moving through the southeast - I'm sure someone from FL can explain it better than I can. But don't worry - I've always found this a great time to visit, the parks are empty, and you will still have a fabulous time!

And won't it be warmer than MN anyway? I guarantee a bad day in Orlando in Jan would be a most amazing day in Chicago in Jan.

I would love for it to be 75 and sunny, but I plan on taking layers. I doubt I'll pack shorts unless weather.com seems to deem it necessary.

We went Dec. '05. Maybe one day we got to do short sleeves, no coat. Jeans everyday. But I wore DH's Mickey Santa Hat to keep my head warm during Wishes. But still warmer than Chicago.....

unfortunately I don't think you can plan ahead. I am going to just wait til the week before and check the forecast and then pack the clothes.:)

Been in Dec, Jan and Feb. December was probably the warmest, for us. January more pleasant than Feb. You need to plan for the worst. Daytime is usually ok. Have layers that you can put on. We would be comfortable in a hoodie or sweatshirt(in the late eve/night), and see other people bundled up in heavy coats and mittens, lol. Just depends on what YOU consider cold. If we felt it was getting too chilly, we'd take a break, head back to the room, and change from our shorts/capris to jeans and a warmer top. Then, back out to the parks, renewed and warmer! If you don't want to head back to your room for a break, or are staying off site, consider keeping things in a locker at the Park. It's never been too cold to go for a dip in the heated pools at WDW resorts.

We are going in January too and I said the same thing...ANYTHING is warmer than January in Chicago!!!

Hi! We were in Disney last January and are returning this coming January! We are from Cleveland, Ohio, where it is single digits in January. In Orlando, the average is 70 for a high that time of year. However, last year the first 2 days we were there (20th and 21st) the high was low 50's...cold. We wore our winter coats, hats and gloves for a couple of days. Mid afternoons it warmed up thanks to the sun, but we planned to stay all day so we left with coats on, took them off for a bit, and then put them back on as the sun went down..

With all of that said, January was our favorite trip to Disney. It was great because there was no humidity to exhaust our children! There was no whining or complaining and it was so lovely! Have a great time!!:woohoo:

We were down there the end of January a few years ago. When we went to Illuminations people were wrapped in the bedding from their hotel rooms. We came from upstate NY and, believe me, we couldn't come out of the buildings until the fireworks started, even though we had on the heavy winter clothing we wore on the way to the airport.

I made my kids sit and wait it out for Fantasmic when there was frost on the seats!! However, on that same trip it was high 60's, low 70's every afternoon. Pack a little bit of everything. While I really don't mind the cooler weather at WDW in January (heck, it's balmy compared to what we're coming from), I do get frustrated playing the "what to wear today" game. It's got to be warm enough for those chilly mornings, but then light enough so that when the layers start to get peeled away, you don't feel like a pack mule carrying all these extra clothes around!

I have a mid-weight Columbia jacket with the removable fleece. I think I'll wear that (and freeze) to the airport. Then I can take it apart as necessary.

DD and DH, well, they're out of luck. :)

Go Phillies!

I second that!! I am wearing my phillies gear proudly and will be watching tonight from work...at the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia..hoping the game will be keeping people out of the ER.
