Weather in Summer

I'm a teacher and have limited availability when it comes to vacationing. For the past two years, we went to WDW in August, and I just don't think I can do it again. We are from Wisconsin and don't have that kind of heat and humidity here. It's just too brutal for me.

We've been thinking about going to Disneyland at some point within the next five years. What is the weather like during summer? Is it more bearable than at WDW? I don't know how I would do with the dry heat... is it just as bad as the humid heat?

Any help is welcome. Thanks!

Summers are really nice, but the last week or two of August and September can be brutal with the heat and humidity. If you come in the summer, try July/1st two weeks of August.

It will likely be horribly hot but humidity is not nearly as bad as Fl.
What helps some at DL is there are lots of inside attractions that aren't very far apart. It will still be very uncomfortable but at least there are places to get out of it. The park is also open later so you can return to your hotel for rest or a swim during the hottest part of the day and then spend a late evening there.
Still, it's too hot and crowded for me!

We were at DL last July for the 60th and it was hot! But we took advantage of the inside attractions with A/C and took afternoon breaks back at the hotel. It was nice to be able to go back to the parks in the evening due to the longer hours.

It is hot. I cannot handle the heat and have tried to avoid summer as much as possible, but dd shares a 7/17 bday with Disneyland so we have gone twice now and are planning a trip for this July. As a pp mentioned, a lot of the lines are indoors which helps A TON. We have also used the battery fans and just taken it slow. That said, we went in January once when it was crazy hot and it rained a couple days on our last July trip. So you might get lucky and have reasonable weather.

I go every year in the summer (have done for at least a decade). I like it as the mornings and evenings are really nice - no need for a sweater. It is fun to go on GRR or Splash any time as you don't shiver in wet togs. Midday we go back to the hotel to swim and nap to escape hottest most crowded time of the day. There is some humidity of you go later in August but nothing like the WDW blanket of moist hellish oppression.

Thank you all for your quick replies! I guess summer will not be the time for us to go to Disneyland. Maybe I'll try Thanksgiving break, Christmas break, Spring break, or Memorial Day weekend. I know those are going to be crazy busy, but there's nothing else I can do.

Since it's a bit drier in Anaheim it helps to have misters and/or cooling towels. Add a hat, sunglasses, and sunblock and it's not too bad.

We went the summer before last at the end of July and will be going this June, I didnt think it was horrible I am from MO so we have some heat and humidity but we had a misting fan and got cups of ice water often

I find it a lot easier to deal with the heat at Disneyland vs. Disney World. Part of this is due to the lack of humidity (which, even though I grew up in a humid place, still makes it really difficult for me to breathe; as miserable as the hot sun is, I find it easier to "treat" with mist/shade umbrellas/etc), but most is due to the structure of the park. It's smaller, so there's less walking across vast concrete; it's shadier with a lot more trees, which gives more opportunities for relief; and a few hours' break in the dark, cool Grand Californian Hotel lobby is a five minute stroll away. Trying to return to a hotel at Disney World in the middle of the afternoon -- when it seems like it takes an hour standing in another hot line and bus just to get there -- never felt like enough of a relief.

The past three visits we have done beginning of June.. it was very nice! We are from far west Texas so maybe thats a factor but we loved it! Took light sweaters or sweatshirts in the morning..dropped them off mid morning and grabbed them again for evening park hours! One thing I love about California is the ability to wear shorts and sweatshirts and be just fine! We will be heading to Disney this year in the beginning of March so I am curious to see what the weather will be like then! Its already hitting 80's here.

As someone who grew up in South LA and now living in Houston. I can unequivocally say that DLR will be infinitely more bearable than WDW in the summer. Yes, it can still get hot, but it is no where near as humid. My family used to take yearly trips to SoCal in the summer when I was younger. All of my friends would tell me of their times in WDW, but I'd only ever been to DLR from the last 80s until 2004. Dad absolutely refused to take us to South FL during the summer; he hated the heat and humidity.
