Weather in mid December

I am considering a last minute trip in mid December since it seems to be such a popular time. I see it is very dry and the temps seem good. What is it like weather wise? Can you still swim, wear shorts, or is it capri weather or even colder? :confused3

That time of year can vary greatly. I have gone in early December many times and there have been times when the highs were in the low 80's and times where highs were in the low 50's. Norm is mid 70's. My packing rule is if highs are less than 70, it will get cold at night, so have something warm. There was one trip where we brought winter coats and were glad to have them at night.

That's the thing, we will have heavy coats since we will be departing in NY but want to reduce the luggage as much as possible. I guess have a plan B and watch the weather the days before. Thanks!

I found you need shorts and tshirts during the day and pants and light sweaters at night. Certain days can vary but that is the normal attire I pack.

What I have found is that wind direction has the greatest impact on temperature - sunny, mid 60s but a brisk wind from the North can make it feel like 50s

If you are from North of MD line then you will probably feel it is mild.

I always dress in layers and plan a stop back at room before night to pick up a hoodie and long pants.

Pools are heated and if you have a spa (hot tub) it is great.

If you have a jacket or coat with a removable liner, that is a good choice. It's a good idea to bring a mix you can layer - lots of short sleeve shirts, maybe one long sleeve pullover or sweater, then a jacket. It can be anywhere from the 60's to 80's during the day and anywhere from the 40's to the low 70's at night. A lot depends on how soon winter arrives up north. Check the 10 day forecast on the Weather Channel's website the week before you are leaving to get a handle on how we're doing. Also, it's not always dry. I've been rained out of two MVMCP's over the years (not just a sprinkle, but a torrential rain that lasted all evening). Unlike our summer showers that come and go, if it rains in December, it's usually because of a weather front, and can last several hours to all day. If no fronts are coming through, it should be dry and sunny. If we do have a hot or cold snap, it usually lasts a few days and then the temps moderate. Our coldest weather hits late January into February.

That's the best advice, be ready for either and then decide a couple days before. There were trips where I wore shorts everyday and trips where I never wore them and also a mix of the 2.

With the coats, if the weather was going to be warm in FL, we left our winter coats in the car at the airport and then switched to a jacket to wear on the plane.

We did have a trip where it hard rained for 24 hours straight 2 separate times during the week. That was a bummer.

I am planning on doing the same thing since I don't know how the weather is going to be and this will be the first time down in December. I figured I would layer.

Us too, we're considering somewhat last minute mid Dec trip and was wondering how it would be. Thanks for the post!
