We plan to stay for a couple weeks in Anaheim Resort area in May to visit DLR (and some other places). I've never been in California before (we traveled only to WDW). What can I expect from the local weather in May? Is it possible to swim in the pool and ocean? What should I pack? When the May park hours can be available? What crowds level can I expect? Sorry for so many questions, but I have much much more ;)

It's hard to say what the weather will be but presumably it will be warm, I would guess in the 70s (?). It will probably still cool down in the evenings though so even if you have short sleeves during the day you will want a sweatshirt at night unless there is some sort of heatwave going on. It will probably be warm enough to swim in a pool but IMO, it is never warm enough to swim in the ocean in California. The water along the California coast never gets very warm. People do swim but I think they're crazy. :rotfl:

I think there is a website somewhere that can give you temp averages for each month but I'm not sure what the site is. Maybe you can google it.

I think I've heard that crowd levels can be pretty low in May except for Memorial Day weekend and Mother's Day. Weekdays should be pretty good though I think.

They say the average temperature in may is around 70-80 although last year they had this ridiculous heat wave of like 100+. The pools are a lovely welcome during the day, but the evenings are a little chilly so bring a pair of pants and a light jacket. If I remember correctly though there is this thing called "May Gray" same as "June Gloom", where its cloudy in the morning but burns off before noon and gets really sunny and warm.

As for clothing, I definitely recommend good walking shoes. Durable sandals or runners, shorts, t-shirts or dresses during the day but for the later evening I would recommend a light jacket, a pair of socks and pants. You might want that light jacket for the morning too. Sure bring a bathing suit for mid afternoon if you want a break from the crowds or just need a wind down time.

We hail from Wyoming and planning a trip in May and there is nothing (except maybe lightening) that will keep the kids and I out of the pool!!!! Can't wait. Anything to get away from all of this blasted wind!!

Enjoy your stay in So. Cal and Disneyland.

I envy wind. LOL! It's raining slush here. Ooooh the may sun in Cali can't come fast enough.

Yeah, we got a blanket of snow this morning. :(

May is a great time to go! Before most schools are out and the spring weather is very nice. But it does chilly in the evening, so watch the sun when you're in that pool!

I agree, I miss the Cali sun. The wind here in the winter can get between 30 and 60mph (just a light breeze):rotfl2: Our raining slush was 2 weeks ago, that's fun stuff huh?

I wish we had snow around here, to cover all of the brown!!

Yes, the evening coolness is much more "through your bone chill" there than our dry coolness here in Wyoming.

HAHA Slight breeze of 30-60mph winds... Thats one I havent heard before. Too funny. OOOH and NO I just cant get enough of that slush! Gotta put on my snowsuit and go make a snow cone. :rotfl:

I've been to DL in May a few times and the weather has always been perfect. It won't be cold, but there is a slim chance of it being really hot. I doubt it, but it can happen. Yes you will be able to swim. I can say that mid May is almost the perfect time to go. After Spring break but before the Summer rush.
