Hi,

Many have mentioned that the weather in January is not hot enough to take advantage of the pools. For those who have been in Jnauary, how was the weather?

If too cold to swim outside, what about indoor pools? Should I just leave my swim suits behind? :sad2:

It really depends. We were there Jan '04. All the resort pools are heated. Our kids were in the pools about half the days.

We have been 4 times in January. It was high 70's and low 80's for two trips and sweatshirts and long pants the other two :cold: I would definately bring your swimsuits. The weather can change rapidly that time of year and you may possibly have a day or two of "pool" weather that wasn't in the forecast a few days earlier. On our first Jan. trip the forecast two weeks out was pretty chilly. I would check it every day and by the time it was our day to leave I had pulled most of the long pants and sweatshirts out of my luggage and replaced them shorts, T-shirts and swimsuits :sunny:

First week of Jan05 we had 80's and we swam almost every day! Definitely bring the swimsuits, you never know when it will warm up. Besides, the pools are heated.

i think for anyone who doesn't live in a year round hot climate, you will enjoy swimming. the pools are heated, and depending on where you stay there may also be a hot tub. we were there last january and we wore sweatshirts and jackets in the mornings and evenings, but still went swimming. we will be there this january and i will absolutely pack them. if it is an "average" january, you will swim, if you are lucky and get a "warm" january you will swim a lot! and even if it is unusually cold, you still may want to get in the hot tub -- i know we will!! have fun!!

I didn't realize the pools were heated. I stayed at POFQ in September, and found the pool water quite cool (and I'm from a cold climate). Are the pools heated year round, or just for winter?
Thanks!!
M.

If the were heated year round. people who die! No, they are heated when it is cool there. They heated them when people like us in NE would go in with no heat. You'll be fine. great weather then. A sweatshirt at night, but I was there end DEC and 1st week JAN 2005 and it was PERFECT weather! I didnt see a drop of rain and we swam. Plan for swimming and a night can get 60 ish.

best of luck

January in florida is a crapshoot. I have pictures of us, i think 2004, where during the same vacation we had bathing suits one day and winter coats on another.

This past Jan. we lucked out and had 80's the whole week. The week before was in the 50's and the week after was highs' in the 60's. I guess it made up for our Key West vacation one year when it was record low temps. of 30 degrees!

Just go down with the thought that if you get to swim, you've lucked out. If not, well there's always the parks

We were in WDW this past January (18th-25th), we had 1 day warm enough to swim. It was COLD, 40's at night. We went the January before and also had cold weather. Needless to say we are trying Late Sept. this year so our DD can swim more. Bring your swimsuit maybe you'll have better luck.

None of the on site disney resorts have indoor pools but there are outside the park hotels with them. Not many but they do. Personally though, I would stay in the park and chance it. Honestly it is nice to swim but there is so much else to do there, you won't miss it if you can't. My 3 yr old water fanatic dd wanted the poly pool the first day, ALL DAY and then once she got her taste of MK and such, the pool was in last place :teeth:
