Weather in December

Good morning,

How is the weather in December? We are from Southeast Texas, and right now, it's cold. We don't plan on going to parks at night, but how about during the day?
Would we need hats, earmuffs, gloves, etc. to enjoy the park? Right now, it's 42 degrees in Texas, and I have my heat on at home and the office. And I would not like to be outside for hours right now. Thanks. We plan on going for Christmas.

Be prepared. I am in North Florida and we are really cold right now. We aren't really sure from winter to winter what the weather is going to be.. Look Up accuweather prior and take layers.

It can be all over the place. When we went at Christmas a couple of years ago we had temps ranging from 75 down to 40’s by the end of our trip. I got everyone a packable jacket so they didn’t take up a lot of room in luggage. We are used to cold temps, so didn’t really need gloves or hats, but you might if you’re not as used to it.

We just got back last week. Right before leaving I unpacked all my shorts except one before I left Virginia and planned to layer up. That was perfect since mornings and evenings were cold and days were mostly pleasant

Other years in winter we’ve been in summer gear. You really do need to check beforehand and even then it might shift a bit

We were just there in the parks December 13-18, and I was in shorts 4 of the 6 days. My typical day was in shorts, starting with just a long sleeve t-shirt under a regular t-shirt. I would take off the long-sleeve tee around 11am and be in shorts and short sleeves until dark. Then in the early evening I would put the long-sleeve tee back on and I was fine, even on our late nights. But as people have said, even if that’s typical you should check the forecast. It COULD be in the 80’s or in the 40’s, even though both are unlikely. We went in January about 10 years ago, and I don’t think it got above 45 for the entire week. Another year we went in January and were in shorts most days. Luck of the draw.
