Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can give me an idea as to what I should pack, clothing-wise.

My daughter and I will be heading with a chunk of her class to MD, DC, VA, NY and PA on the American Heritage Tour, and I have NO idea what the weather's like down in the VA/MD/DC area in February. I figure I'll be pretty safe packing my regular clothing for NY and PA since they're close by, but can anyone give me an idea what the weather tends to be like mid-February down mid-East Coast area?

Thanks in advance! :grouphug:

(Found out tonight that I get her boyfriend and two of his friends in my group, since DD's going with her BFF, whose mom is also going. Hoo-boy, fun times )

It could be almost anything from 20 degrees and snowing to beautiful and 70.

It will almost certainly be about the same as New York. Middle of winter, usually cold. Haven't had much snow the last couple of years, but that could change.

You should be safe with the same winter clothes you are packing for NY/PA, it does on occasion have a warm day or two in there. Last year in the middle of Feb we went to VA Beach for the weekend and it was in the upper 70's both days.

Well, that's kinda good; I wasn't looking forward to trying to pack for more than one climate ;) I'll have a couple of T-shirts with me anyway to hit the hotel gyms with, so it sounds like I'll be good to go! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info!

Definitely similar to NY - generally, the temp difference is maybe ten degrees on weather.com but once you're there, it feels the same (I live in DC but travel back and forth to NYC constantly). Maybe look into layering, since it can be pretty cold outside on the mall waiting to go into museums (wide, open space) but very warm once you're inside.

Cold, cold and did I mention COLD?! I think it's pretty rare to get a 70 degree day in February here. Not impossible, it has happened, but not likely. I would definitely pack for lots of layering and if you are going to be outside a lot while in the area, pick up a couple of those hand warmer things. They come in handy!

On a side note, the Farmer's Almanac is predicting heavy snowfall(around a foot, which is big for us) in the middle of February this year. Typically, when we have had a big blizzard(last one was valentines weekend 2003) they have been in February.

Cold and wet.. I can't remember a Feb without lots of drizzle or snow.. sometimes both in the same day! You'll have a blast, DC can be pretty cool.

Yes, weather in Washington can do just about anything. The saying is, if you don't like the weather, wait a day or two. Typically, January and February are the coldest months of the year for Washington and the months that it receives the most snow, however, snowfall in DC can vary from almost nothing to a blizzard. If I were you, I would go on www.weather.com and check the 10 day forecast before you pack - that way you would have the right clothes for the weather.
